***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

If you believe the horribly-misspelled screen shot kellex tweeted. I'm not sure I buy it yet. kellex's profile is protected so I can't follow him to see if there has been any other info on that...

I dunno, this morning the info seemed to be pointing at a 12/8 pre-release and 12/15 release, and some of the usual suspects on twitter were seeming to confirm (or probably just echo) the 12/15 date.

As far as pre-orders go, all we know is that Hanette told Han via sms that they were ready for pre-orders or something to that effect. Not that pre-orders were starting today or tomorrow.

Why would they be sitting on pre-orders if they could just start them right away :S

And don't give me this "Verizon is irrational" BS, because if they were actually able to begin pre-orders they would.

Ah okay. I got my info from an interview that an Android dev gave on The Verge. He said it was a Nexus limitation because of the way the OS handled devices with only internal memory. I'll have to check that out.

That interview was mainly referring to how the GNex would connect to a PC, separate from the issue of using the phone to host other devices itself.

From what it sounds like, whatever switch flipped that Hanette noticed typically happens ~1 week before a pre-release happens. So that's where we're guesstimating the 12/8 pre-release date. But perhaps it is a precursor to a full in-store and online release. I'm betting on 12/15, though, so I can be pleasantly surprised if it happens 12/8 but not disappointed if it doesn't happen on 12/8. ;)

1 word: Warranty.

If your THAT paranoid, use that money towards an ADH warranty for ~85 dollars. Besides your paying $700 for a phone (if your off contract), you should treat it like its your 1st born child, and show it off as such.

I don't know about you, but I don't show off my first born child naked. That would be wrong on so many levels. :D

orange peel thats what that is!! I've used the ones from vzw and I think those compare to the first ones you listed. at least to me they do. I hate that orange peel effect. Glad I never got a Zagg

I tried the VZW ones as well. Like most of the dry application protectors, they just don't hold up over time. They are smooth and clear, though.

Zagg Invisible Shield:
Pros: Extremely durable, "self-healing".
Cons: Terrible orange peel effect, tacky feel. Almost impossible to use Swype-style keyboards with this on your screen.

Nice write up, but I'd like to respectfully take issue with this one.

The "smudge-free" Zagg Invisible Shield does indeed have the orange peel surface, to the point that it's completely useless imo.

The plain one is absolutely smooth, and very easy to swipe text with. This one does have a noticeable resistance when pressed - but I find that I can get high response by using the lightest touch imaginable.

Anyway, I'm still going to try the Steinheil Crystal, but I thought it fair to chime in my observations as a counterpoint.

Isn't there some sort of "oil repellent" (sorry, don't know the technical term :( ) on the actual screen? Will putting on a screen protector make that go away?

Great series. Lumley walks that fine line between a total genius and absolutely out of his mind. I still wish they wold turn it into a movie.

It's well documented that history's most famous geniuses were, in fact, completely mad.

Since the GNex most likely won't have any such campaign, a simultaneous release makes sense (at least to me).

I repeat...WHAT about this launch has made sense up to this point? :p

So Dec. 8th release is pretty much all but confirmed by Verizon themselves?

And pre-orders possibly start tonight?

I'M EXCITED

Not to be a jerk, but haven't you been saying "possibly preorder tonight" for the past 7 days now? If it does actually happened when you say it, I'll still love you forever, but I think once a day everyday for the last week you have been guessing this haha.

oleophobic. :p

and yes, the GNex screen supposedly has it. adding a screen protector would make that go away, but you could always get an oleophobic screen protector if you're concerned about it.

After watching too many videos of people enjoying the new features of the Galaxy Nexus, I had a question about the panoramic pictures that our highly desired phone is capable of producing. What is going to be the best way to view these things? Will it be as simple as sending them to facebook for all of our friends to see?

I imagine that some of the fun of these pictures is being able to look around at what's going on, similar to gigapan-type images. Should we just expect really wide images? I was just curious to find out if you guys knew of anything that could display the panoramas in their full glory.
