***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I know that calls to Verizon stores are generally considered worthless because the same information is relayed over and over again, but I just talked to a guy and he said that the internal resource they use within retail listed their specific location as receiving the Galaxy Nexus in January. This might explain why some stores say December and others January; perhaps it's a priority sort of thing, where some stores get them first and then they trickle out to others later.

So that's probably why some reps may have said January...

Just putting that out there, FWIW.

Call that guy back and find out what stores are priority ;)

Beautiful!? Right now it is 27 degrees here, it is snowing, the roads are terrible...Bah, humbug! :(

If only I had a Nexus to keep me company.
Ouch, I wish it was snowing here! I'm dying to get my snowboard out..

Yeah, I am here with my 10 month old, the wife and older kids went to a Christmas show at church. I finished getting my christmas lights up this afternoon, pretty proud of myself. By the way, are we still hiding off-topic?
Very nice, how did the lights turn out?
and we probably should, I'm just lazy :/
Working till 10 and having trouble keeping up with all the goings on on my droid 2. The ads are pummeling it

To all those stating that they don't use Facebook sync because they don't want 1000+ contacts in your phone:

You do realize you can select "sync with existing contacts", right? It will only pull down pictures and information about people that are currently in your contacts.

I really like this feature because when friends call me, the phone displays their default Facebook picture. If they change their default Facebook picture, the next time my phone syncs with Facebook, it will update their picture.

hold a cheap plastic watch in one hand, hold a rolex with an automatic movement (or any decent watch tha's not jewelry but an actual machine) in another hand. which one will feel like it: has better build quality? feels plastiky? will last longer (saphire crystal glass will outlast the fake plastic glass, shopping carts and car panels notwithstanding).

For watches I would extend that even further honestly the only ones I have found that I like the feel of are rolex - which style wise I am not the biggest fan -- and panerai which I wear.

Honestly I'm not that concerned about the materials of the phone. I have used my fascinate for just over a year now and dropped it on the hard operating room floor way more times than i care to admit and it still looks close to new, with the exception of a few scratches on the side from said drops. I wouldn't mind the increase in weight of a nice metal body and the feel that comes with it. But my plasic fascinate has fared much better than my metal OG droid. Oh and I'm forced to carry a pager, so that is in the same pocket as the phone and neither picked up scratches from that.

You can just choose to show contacts with "contacts on this phone" as well.

I'm not disagreeing with you about a Rolex beating out a plastic Timex on build quality, but what exactly would you say it is that gives the Rolex the higher build quality? Materials? Durability? Feel?

I'm actually very curious about this, because "build quality" seems like such an easy-to-understand term but I'm finding it difficult to actually pin down what it is...

Exactly.

It's the term that everyone bandies about and everyone agrees what it means - until asked to define it.

The IBM Fellows will tell you that quality is a binary - you have it or you don't and any scaling of it is just a cover up.

To me, the term build quality is a nebulous idea, it's a form of scaling. This one has better build quality - like this one has more one-ness (because quality is a binary).

In my mind, I don't go by this because opinions vary - and they vary across many subtle factors.

My personal idea of construction quality - did other phones in this class or from this maker get a reputation for lots of infant mortality issues?

This is a new class for Samsung, so I look at their record and they come up good on construction quality.

Next part of build quality - no brains, just emotions.

It's a handset. I pick it up and roll in my hand a few ways. If my gut says something's wrong, I trust my gut, put it down and try the next thing until my gut tells me it's good.

I can't put my hands' impressions into words and I know that my hands don't have their own brain - but for a handset, I trust my hands' feedback as much as my brain's.

Anyway - that's just me and that's just one more opinion on this build quality stuff. ;) :)

Sorry if that made no sense, did my best. :p

How do you sign into google? I created my account when I got my DX and haven't had to sign in since. I have no idea what my password is.

When you boot the phone for the first time, you will be prompted to create a new google account or sign into your existing google account. You will need your password if you already have an account with google.

I LOVE driving in the Snow! I grew up in IA, MN & ND... I live in AZ right now. it's Raining and 42 Degrees right now.

My first car was a RWD 1976 Chevy Nova that I used to drive in the NDak Winters.

Seriously?!?!? Steven goes all the way the New York and reports back on the phone and nobody bothers to send me a PM or anything?

You guys are mean.

Sorry - was helping my son step into rooting his Samsung.

First root - first step into a larger world (and I'm digging the theme he's going with a lot).

Good first root - :)

Not PM'ing you what was up - :(

Yeah, this is what I do. But in the past I have accidentally synced with everyone and it is such a pain.

So who's digging and who's rooting. :D

Very nice, gorgeous! Hope you didn't have too many tangled ones

Nope, I pack everything well each year. Did have some not working, that is always the worst part, as I am kind of cheap when it comes to holiday decorations, so will spend an hour or to trying to fix instead of just getting a new string.

Also the icicle lights are the twinkling kind, adds a nice touch I think.
