Because they officially announced the phone months ago, and I know they said before the end of the year, but them sitting back while it is available over seas is something they should look at. The iPhone was never available overseas first so there wasn't so much need for information on when it would release here.

If they would've released the SGSII, there's a good chance, I'd have that phone and be happy. I loved the T-Mobile phone, just not the network. They said they passed to get something better and then won't say when it's coming.

Perhaps you should direct your anger towards Samsung for not manufacturing the LTE model first. They manufactured the GSM models first, that's why they were available across the pond initially. I don't know what the delay with the LTE model, but even during the launch event in Hong Kong, it sounded like the specs weren't finished (no thickness for LTE model, batter size not reported, etc).

I plan to open a new line, purchase the Nexus and then swap the Nexus with my phone on the two lines. Given this scenario, is it possible:
A) to get the new phone without having the VZW associate open the box and activate the phone on site?
B) Can I just open a new line and take the new, boxed phone home and then deactivate my phone and reactivate both on their respective lines?
C) Can I bypass the activation fee(s) by doing this?

I agree with past comments that I hate not being the first one to touch MY new phone, but after buying the OG Droid and the X2, it never occurred to me that I could walk out of the store with a unopened box.

Me neither. The OG Droid was my first smart phone, and I was under the impression from the CSR in the store, that they had to activate it there. This time, I will just ask for the box (unopened) and activate the phone at home.

You have a valid point, Vette. But I think it must be conceded that this Launch is the worst-kept secret in cell phone history. At what point should VZW have just come out and said "Yeah, okay, you got us. You all know anyway but Launch Day for Nexus is ________"?

Instead, they're keeping this thing secret until the day it launches? Makes little sense to me, but then I'm not sitting in the boardroom.

I'll go on record saying I don't fully understand everything either. I doubt there are many who do.

My only "guess" is that Verizon doesn't want to miss a launch date, so they only give a date when they are 100% certain it will release then.

I wouldn't say I'm angry, just frustrated. We don't know what the delay is, you're right. What we do know is Samsung Exec said it's on Verizon. Google's Duarte said it's on Verizon. The only party that hasn't chimed in is Verizon.

My only question is why Apple is given a pass for thier secrecy, yet Verizon is flogged for it.

Because anything Apple (particularly in the media) is super terrific and anything not Apple is so awkward and 'yesterday'.

Duarte said it's up to the launch partner to announce, never said it's thier fault for the delay. Executive speak is carefully crafted as to not imply any liability from your own company.

When I bought my Thunderbolt they had to scan the bar code on the sim card then the bar code on the box to activate it.

I couldn't do this even if they would let me. I don't know how to set my email up so they always do it for me.

I guess I see it that they said it that way instead of saying "Hey we're waiting on Verizon to get the damn thing out the door" to be politically correct when talking about your partners.

Do you guys plan on unlocking the bootloader right away after getting the phone? From what I've read, it wipes the phone, right? At this point, I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to root the phone and use custom roms. But I likely will, if only to be able to backup with custom recovery.

I know I'm going to be excited to use the phone right away and install apps, but I'm thinking it probably makes more sense to hook it up to my PC and unlock the bootloader before doing much of anything. Am I correct in assuming that once I unlock the bootloader (which wipes the phone), rooting the phone will not wipe it again?

A. I asked the sales rep at the corporate store about that. He told me that they were not allowed to let a phone go out the door without opening up the box, putting the battery and testing it... I'm calling BS because you can order it from VZW or one of many non-corporate vendors and do whatever you want with it.

Anyone have any thoughts/experience with buying phones on launch day from VZW corporate stores? Do they usually have long lines? Enough stock?

My only experience buying at a store on launch day is with the BB Storm 1 and it was a nightmare, so I'm wondering whether I'm better off just trying to get the Nexus online even if it means not getting it in my hands by launch day.
