We are coming up on one of the most interesting week the GN has seen. What's everyone's take? Does it get released this week? Do we go to pre-order? Does this week end in all of us lining up on the proverbial bridge?

What's the consensus?

I will say sadly that I think.....

This thread will be locked down by weeks end :(

I take option d. all of the above :p I hope it is released this week hoping we hear an announcement either tomorrow or tuesday.

Sorry, no new news about the Nexus during my chat with a Verizon rep, but I did get information on pre-orders:

She also mentioned that online orders are currently offered with free activation (for new lines) and the phone is shipped new-in-box without being touched by a VZW rep first. Looks like I will be keeping an eye out for pre-order. ;)

When do you think those of us that signed up for email news from Verizon will finally hear something? I haven't been this excited about a phone since the weeks leading up to the original Droid!

After it is released. They are so slow sending things out, I know the thunderbolt and bionic the emails came about a week after it was in store.

I thought w/ the NFL games today, we would see a commercial. I'm a little nervous. :)

Lots of internet news, nothing tangible yet. This week is going to be pure excitement on this thread.

Who the h*** really knows when this phone will be out. If I were taking a wild guess based on recent posts, I'd guess a release at the stores on Friday, Dec 9th. We "might" get a pre-order sometime on the 7th or 8th. But I'm not holding my breath for either. ~big inhale~ ~holding~ ~gasp~

Rooting will wipe the phone again yes. I am going to unlock the bootloader first and then set everything up because I am not sure if I am going to root right away since it has nothing I need to remove like on previous phones(all vzw garbage)
Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone. So absolutely do this first. Rooting, however, will not wipe the phone. You can root and unroot at any time, and it's virtually transparent to the phones operation.

Makers cooperate with carriers.

Expect free wireless tethering to not work because it's a violation of your Verizon terms of service.

And for that same reason, AndroidForums.com can't support threads on HOW to get free wireless tethering when the time comes - new policy.

Isn't rooting a violation of terms of service?

I have never had that happen to me I have unlocked quite a few phones and none were ever wipped

Quick question about upgrading...my account says we are due on december 28th. Any idea if they will allow an early upgrade or will I have to wait 3 weeks for the discounted price?

I've talked to Verizon a lot about this. Just say you have a current problem with your phone and you cannot access phone calls or texts. They will work with you inside 30 days.

Just call customer service and state some problems and ask if you can utilize an upgrade.

Yes this they can sometimes be nice

I don't know if any of the major carriers still try that or not. Some of the minor ones still do.

It's been challenged in court, and whenever it has, it hasn't stood up and carriers have removed the clause - it's an unconscionable contract as I understood the explanation.

For us non-lawyers - Unconscionability - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carriers hate it for all of the obvious reasons - potential support issues, removing bloatware, etc etc etc.

Carriers are allowed to not honor your warranty if you root - that's really about it.

FWIW - Sprint now honors warranties on rooted phones and lets you remove some/all bloatware without root (the number one reason to root). It's a very enlightened policy, imo.

In any case, AndroidForums.com comes down on the side of this being your phone, so granting admin access (root access in our world) is AOK here.

There are many valid reasons to root and I've no doubt that will apply to the Nexus for a good many here. :)

Thanks. I actually do have problems with my current droid incredible. The up volume button is broken (has been since August) and now the digital eye does not respond (so i cant use a camera). Hence, this phone has to come out soon!

They do allow early upgrades. My upgrade was available starting Nov. 9th, however they allowed me to get a upgrade in the beginning of October, but they said I was not eligible for the Iphone at the time. So I think they may have some restrictions for early upgrades.
