Never with the 50+ HTC phones I have unlocked
If you unlock a Nexus One (made by HTC) using the "fastboot oem unlock" command, it will wipe the phone.
It's a part of that unlock - it's a Nexus thing.

Well, not sure if you saw earlier but I chatted with a CSR and she told me that preorders would go live Wednesday...so take it FWIW![]()
Sorry, no new news about the Nexus during my chat with a Verizon rep, but I did get information on pre-orders:
She also mentioned that online orders are currently offered with free activation (for new lines) and the phone is shipped new-in-box without being touched by a VZW rep first. Looks like I will be keeping an eye out for pre-order.
When do you think those of us that signed up for email news from Verizon will finally hear something? I haven't been this excited about a phone since the weeks leading up to the original Droid!

I found this in the AC forums. This should help.

If this is true, and stores do receive them in the next couple days, buckle up, cause this next week is gonna get hectic.

htc inc, htc thunderbolt all wipe when unlocking and rooting..
it all depends.. just getting S-Off and root on a HTC wont wipe in my experience, But downgrading to root or getting Perm-S-Off on a HTC will wipe.
I thought you were wondering if the wipe on unlock was specific to just the Samsung Nexii - I was just saying it was that way for all Nexii.
Nothing in that link states that rooting will wipe the phone. The only thing they suggest is that you do a backup, just in case you mess something up along the way.Everytime I have rooted it wiped the phone. This still seems to be the case.. 8th/9th is looking like the latest could be date. Guess we will only have to wait a few more days to see if it turns out to be true. Most likely the rep wanted to get a sale then which is why they said about it being pushed back another week. They do not make money if you wait and want to sell what they have available now.I went with my friend to the mall and we went to a small Verizon store to look at phones. His phone is on its last lag and he's looking for a replacement. None of the display models worked (dummy's), so we couldn't play with them. I pointed out that the Rezound and Razr are the current top phones but he should wait for the Galaxy Nexus, which might be released this Thursday. He didn't seem too interested in any they had, and I think I convinced him to wait another week.
Anyway, I asked the guy working there behind the counter when the Galaxy Nexus was going to be released, I was trying to verify the 8th. He said that's been pushed back and it might be another week.
Since this thread moves so fast, I haven't been able to keep up. Is there talk of the 15th, or are we set on the 8th? Because I really want this thing, and the sooner the better.
On a side note, the Razr is impressively thin, but feels weird when holding it. The Rezound feels a little better. Those phones seem very big compared to my Chocolate 3. A Galaxy Nexus is going to take some getting used to.

Thank you, but I can't view them. Super happy stuff will be available though.

Could you give me an example of rooting that has caused a wipe? Which is always sound advice in any situation.
There have been a few cases where the only way to get root, was to load a pre-rooted rom. In that case, you are loading a new ROM, which will wipe the phone. But that is not the same as just rooting. Typical root methods like Z4Root and Gingerbreak were one click methods that didn't require anything other than hitting a button. Phone looked and acted just as before, but now you have superuser access. That's all root does.
When I rooted my thunderbolt it wiped the phone. Not to mention same happened when I rooted my droid and htc droid incredible.
No it has done that with motorola and htc devices.
