FWIW I didn't see this posted in the previous pages so forgive me if it was

Phil from AC:
Phones should start reaching stores Monday or Tuesday, I'm told, so we'll probably start seeing more pics leak out. (Hint: It looks like a slightly thicker Galaxy Nexus with a Verizon logo on it).

Still no definitely word on launch date.

Well, not sure if you saw earlier but I chatted with a CSR and she told me that preorders would go live Wednesday...so take it FWIW

Sorry, no new news about the Nexus during my chat with a Verizon rep, but I did get information on pre-orders:

She also mentioned that online orders are currently offered with free activation (for new lines) and the phone is shipped new-in-box without being touched by a VZW rep first. Looks like I will be keeping an eye out for pre-order. ;)

When do you think those of us that signed up for email news from Verizon will finally hear something? I haven't been this excited about a phone since the weeks leading up to the original Droid!

if its a 12/8 release i will be at the store, just to have that feeling... if its 12/9 im working and ill preorder it

Well guys I just had another CSR tell me the preorder would go live THIS Wednesday and that we should contact "customer care" and they would place the preorder for us.

He also said "I am not sure about the store inventory but you will not have a problem with placing it online or over the phone."

He said it would be " shipped to you before the release date."

He's "checking" on the release date for me now.

EDIT: He has "no info" on an actual release date; just that preorders will begin Wednesday, take it FWIW :p

I went with my friend to the mall and we went to a small Verizon store to look at phones. His phone is on its last leg and he's looking for a replacement. None of the display models worked (dummies), so we couldn't play with them. I pointed out that the Rezound and Razr are the current top phones but he should wait for the Galaxy Nexus, which might be released this Thursday. He didn't seem too interested in any they had, and I think I convinced him to wait another week.

Anyway, I asked the guy working there behind the counter when the Galaxy Nexus was going to be released, I was trying to verify the 8th. He said that's been pushed back and it might be another week.

Since this thread moves so fast, I haven't been able to keep up. Is there talk of the 15th, or are we set on the 8th? Because I really want this thing, and the sooner the better.

On a side note, the Razr is impressively thin, but feels weird when holding it. The Rezound feels a little better. Those phones seem very big compared to my Chocolate 3. A Galaxy Nexus is going to take some getting used to.

Everytime I have rooted it wiped the phone. This still seems to be the case.. How To Root Samsung Galaxy Nexus – Tutorial | Android Advices
Nothing in that link states that rooting will wipe the phone. The only thing they suggest is that you do a backup, just in case you mess something up along the way.

Could you give me an example of rooting that has caused a wipe? Which is always sound advice in any situation.

There have been a few cases where the only way to get root, was to load a pre-rooted rom. In that case, you are loading a new ROM, which will wipe the phone. But that is not the same as just rooting. Typical root methods like Z4Root and Gingerbreak were one click methods that didn't require anything other than hitting a button. Phone looked and acted just as before, but now you have superuser access. That's all root does.

8th/9th is looking like the latest could be date. Guess we will only have to wait a few more days to see if it turns out to be true. Most likely the rep wanted to get a sale then which is why they said about it being pushed back another week. They do not make money if you wait and want to sell what they have available now.

Talk is still the 8th. I have had two CSR's tell me that preorders would start Wednesday!

When I rooted my thunderbolt it wiped the phone. Not to mention same happened when I rooted my droid and htc droid incredible.

No it has done that with motorola and htc devices.

Rooting my DroidX did not wipe the phone, so perhaps it just varies from phone to phone? Of course, the bootloader remained locked on that device, and rooting was an exploit.

So to clarify, we know for sure that unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone. Do we have consensus that rooting will also wipe it? Perhaps when there's a 1-click method released it will not wipe the phone? I guess it's not that big of a deal... I was just hoping to get all the wiping done before I fully set up my phone. And I'm not sure if I want to root right away, so I was hoping to just unlock the bootloader without rooting and then set up the phone..
