***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I couldn't resist your psychic abilities to pull me into this thread. I kept telling myself I wouldn't get sucked in. I feel like an addict and this thread is my crack.

Anyway, one more "I called my local Verizon Corp store..."
In Oakland - I asked the girl if they were going to have the Nexus available for sale on Firday, she said "yes".
Then she put the phone down and starting talking to her manager and came back and said " we will have it, but we do not have an official release date, so we may not be able to sell it..."

Kinda useless I know, but I believe we will get our hands on it on Friday.

I cannot wait, my OG droid just plain sucks.

Welcome! If you think your addiction is bad, wait till you take ~1800 hits like me (Don't even get me started on BB ;) )

Im buying this on a upgrade, I have a normal sim card.. They shouldnt need to activate it at all.. I should be able to be the only hands on my Nexi on friday :) right?

Someone mentioned that it's become "policy" that the store workers have to activate it for you and they can't let you leave the store without doing so.

That would work under normal circumstances, but my Droid X has hated my router since it received the Gingerbread update. But hopefully I won't have to get to that point of the conversation with the VZW rep because I don't think it's that horrible of a request.

Alright, what are those of you saying to get your upgrade date moved up? I just tried 611 and he wouldn't budge, just spewed the line about how early upgrades are determined by device popularity (see iPhone) and that nothing could be done til a) the phone is released and b) 7 days before upgrade date.

What's the trick?

Are you not the one who questioned me today about this exact issue?

I have loyally been following this thread for weeks and weeks. I can't believe it is almost over, but now I'm not sure what to do next - with the phone, I know what I should do with my time :D

I've had my OG Droid for over two years and never changed a thing. Unlocking the bootloader and rooting a phone was (?is) so far beyond me, but I'm a bit tempted.

What I wanted to get some opinions about is, given I'm not very tech-savvy and have never needed to change any advanced settings, should I even bother. I know if I don't do it now, I won't want to do it later due to the wiping when I unlock the bootloader.

So does it make any sense to unlock now and root it, but not make any changes? I feel like it leave me with options in the future, but I really don't understand a lot of this stuff and wonder if I'm just creating more of a problem down the road (if I have to send it back for some reason.)

I know this is completely a personal choice, but if I were your sister, or mom for some of you young-uns, what would you recommend. Keeping in mind I'm quite a bit more advanced than needing a jitterbug, but no where near most of you guys. The hubby is tech-savvy, but not with phones, so I wouldn't have back-up, except you guys, of course! :)

So should I be thrilled with an amazing phone which will have more than anything I could imagine, or should I try to push it further? All opinions are welcome! Thanks,

I don't think that it's mandatory for the salesperson to activate the device prior to it leaving the store, a friend of mine was able to walk out of a corporate store with a Bionic without it activated, although I'm unsure if it was on a contract.

I'm going to request that they do not activate mine at purchase. I have 2-step verification on my Google account and would feel most comfortable activating (and deactivating my current device) in front of my computer while logged into my Google account.

No, they have to activate it. It's the only way to receive the subsidized price.

Anybody notice that we've passed 1.5 million views? While we've far surpassed the epic Incredible thread in posts (47,904 vs 65,807 and counting, 37% more ) we've got a ways to go until 2,872,041 views.

So how many more posts will there be in the (hopefully) last 2.5 days? For reference, in the last 24 hours there have been just over 2800 posts. So maybe 73000 total or even higher? If you really delve into that 2800, if you average 5 seconds reading per post, that is nearly 4 hours of reading (more depending on the number of BabyBlues multiquote posts). Also means that Han with his 2934 posts is personally responsible for wasting 4 hours of each one of our lives (kidding).

Someone brought this up earlier, but the Incredible thread had 24.70 posts per hour on average. As of right now we are at 26.83 posts per hour! And I can only see that going higher given the recent flurry.

I wonder what that post count over time graph looks like now.

Time to go enjoy an ice cream sandwich in preparation for my Ice Cream Sandwich.

lol!

Imagine what the views will be after the first 6 months after release.

That ICS sounds good bout now I'll join ya :)

Hi, just had two of these delivered. On charge and now I am looking for some sort of user manual. Lost can not find any.
Anyone got a clue where to start?
Thanks

2 of what?

Oh your in the wrong forum go here and search for your device.

Welcome to AF!

so how would I activate the gnex at home? after buying outright from verizon corp store. sorry if noob question.

You have to get a sim card from the store, and if they let you take it home w/o activation you will put it in the phone and call a phone number from a third party phone. They can activate it and link it to your account. Not too difficult, but when I got my Tbolt it took about 30 minutes to activate and it was third party. But when I bought my wifes razr (funny story too. bought it on a new line through amazonwireless for .01 and they sent a sim. They canceled the old sim and gave me a new one with my wifes old line and i activated a old phone on the new line. amazon didnt care (although the vzw tech laughed at me cause i would have to pay the $250 fee but i didnt ) and its all cool now) it was activated within like 1 minute

I think I said that earlier lol... like about 100 pages ago, but I think thats on new lines only. I have my old sim (under 60days old) from my tbolt, and I will be using it. So i dont think they req activation there.... but if they do, ill be doing it ;)

Quick question about the extended 2100mAh battery: Do we know how much it'll be and whether it'll be available in the store?

Welcome to our party!!!

Yeah, I kind of figured someone would point that out. I didn't get the vagueness and ambiguity of my statement when I posted. :D I more or less meant with a phone. An electronic device wasn't good verbiage. :)

Yeah - if it can be misconstrued I'll be one of the first to find it and make it known but there are a lot of us with that ability here. :D

Where are the rankings that you are all talking about??

Go to the actual forum for the Nexus and it shows a listing of the number of posts.

Hey....I resemble that remark. :p

Does anyone know if verizon still has their in-store activation fee of $35? And if you buy a phone online, it's waived?
