***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

First post. After reading for a while now I finally had to get in on the action now that we are getting closer to the release. I wanted to be able to say I was part of the thread. Called a store here in Richmond, VA today just to hear what they had to say not expecting much. The guy who answered was clearly excited when I asked about the nexus. He told me if I came in and asked for him he would let me play with it. When I got there he said "this never happened" and took me in the corner and let me play with the nexus for a while. It seemed as though he was finally happy to have someone to talk about the phone with. (I think he worked with a bunch of isheep. i heard them talking to each other saying "no one will ever be able to work the new android. its so confusing") I know the saying pictures or it didn't happen, but i assure you it did. After holding it I was very happy and able to hang on a couple more days. Overall, smaller than I expected after looking at the picture leaks, and a better build quality then the "cheap plastic" comments. I don't know if several people have had my experience at this point, but in the moment i felt special. Can't wait for Friday.
Also, sorry if I am "quoting" someone in this post. I think I am going about doing this the correct way but I am not sure as this is my first time.

Pics or get out!

Hah, just joshin! Lucky you, I'm quite jealous that you were able to check out the GNex. Hopefully we all have that opportunity Friday.

Anyone in the Bay Area, CA get a CSR to give up any info on the release or possible (unlikely at this point) pre-order? PM me if you feel inclined. Gonna step away from this beast to spend time with the Wife. From time to time I tell her about some of the posts her and she actually laughs!

jmar

I was wondering the same thing

I got my annual upgrade moved up a couple of weeks by emailing customer service and explaining my situation, telling them that my old phone (OG Droid) was acting up and that I wanted to purchase the Nexus. A customer service rep called me the next day and gave me her direct line, saying that when the Nexus is released and I'm ready to buy it, call her on that line and she'll move my upgrade to that day. I'm planning on calling her first thing Friday morning.

I've heard from a lot of other people that asking via email tends to be more successful than *611 or going into a store. Just remember to be very, very polite. Hope you're able to get it moved.

that's how i got my upgrade moved up for the incredible - i e-mailed them monday though and i still haven't gotten a reply.

LOVE THIS!!!!
Welcome !!

Not buying the 15th rumor. Just someone on XDA trying to start up hot garbage.

I went through most of this guys post trying to figure him out.

1 He works for non corporate Verizon and yet he uses an AT&T ?

2 He claims to have the Nexus on AT&T already

3 Why would his RAE (boss I assume) be emailing him at 10:00 at night.

He doesn't back up anything he says with any docs. So I'm going to say jealous fail!! He knows the LTE Nexus is much faster than his AT&T Nexus, maybe he is bitter and realizes he should have waited a bit longer. Just my observed speculation.

Anybody a fan of Michael Buble in here??

not a big one but I do like him.

Haha I might make it my profile picture. This year I was Jason Vorhees. I've also been Freddy Kreuger and a Ghostbuster in the last few years. Freddy, obviously, was my favorite though!

I've never seen any of them. :O
BUT - I don't do horror movies so I do have a reason for some of the movies not being watched

I find it humorous how first posts rarely have any form of paragraph separation. I'm fairly certain my first post was the same way.

Too many thoughts swirling to worry about separating anything. Lol.

Thoughts on best way to have an upgrade pushed up. Anyone had luck yet?

I had some luck with my wifes line as im trying to get her a gnex. her upgrade date is 3/28/2012. The first time i called i spoke with a csr and the best he could do was offer an upgrade to only a 3g device. a few hours later i called back using the option to cancel my service to get a csr at a higher level. the rep was great, at first he said the same as the first csr then i pressured a little and he said let me talk to a supervisor. he came back on the line and said they are willing to allow an upgrade to a 4g device with the exception of the iphone, bionic and the razr as on saturday they were the top 3 sellers. so by that wording i may be able to get a gnex for the wife aswell. hope this helps you

Great first Post! Welcome!

GOOD LORD!

I went on an assignment @ 12 noon and come back to 61 pages of 30 posts per page. I was figuring on winding down and catching up but NOT!

UNCLE! I have been good about looking through all of em but...........

So what did I miss? Any bans, turd tossing, I am leavings or new news?

Or are we still talking to Peggy?

No one mention getting the Gnex so we can keep this thread open! :D

Just kidding. :p I think Steven needs a vacation and will probably go AWOL after he gets his new toy :D

Nice hanging with you all *sniff* but Im sure ptII is around the corner... the Gnex release thread! :D

EDIT: I wonder how many followers P3 and BMX are going to lose after release  LOL

Gonna take a week's vacation, ...at least. :) Don't worry.. pt 2 is around the corner, trust me. :)

Nope. I tried most of the stores around (corp and resellers). Nothing. Not even a peep. But they were all nervous and flustered when I asked them today, which is drastically different than just this weekend. I have my name and number down with several stores. Whomever bites first, I'll PM you right away!

I just gave up trying to catch up on this thread.;)

We need to work on this sister.

I love all the mayhem commercials! I wish they made a new one every week :D

They should! I wonder who I know that could make that happen, it could be a whole web series where the stupid Caveman ones failed so epically.

9th still looks good, and we still all hate VZW. I would say nothing has changed.

Who really knows. I charge it while off till full the first time I buy a phone. Then run it down till almost dead (below 10%) once. From there I just charge it whenever I need to when I feel like it. Don't know if it matters :D

Can't guarantee this on specific devices but earlier this year (or some time in the past decade? it all blurs together) I was discussing this point with coworkers and customers after a meeting. I work as an engineer on machines that make the LEDs and parts of hard drives, so we have discussions with end users (which would be your equipment makers) from time to time. We were discussing the software and circuitry that's finally being put in place in electronics to properly handle the charging and discharge characteristics of Li-ion and Ni-mh batteries. Li-ion batteries of course have very difficult to predict discharge curves. I think since that discussion there was an IEEE article or two about the changes being made.

Effectively it removes all that voodoo-ish thinking we used to do, not draining the battery below a certain amount, certain charging cycles on new batteries, etc. A good thing since some companies would insist that a new battery be fully charged then drained a few times before it was "ready for use." One can only hope that functionality was picked up for use on everything by now, but we talk about developments that are interesting and not how widely implemented the ideas are.

Now me, I'm looking forward to my new GNex when they let me buy it. Been waiting for a new phone since the Galaxy S II was started long ago, and then when Verizon gave it a pass and the GNex came up I decided that was my next phone.
My V1 LG Chocolate from 2005 dials random numbers, sends texts whenever it wants, starts going online on its' own, and so on. The charging/headphone/USB port has had to be re-soldered onto the main board already and I've gone through multiple batteries. Still, no scratches on the screen and it still works. Usually. And the battery now lasts 5 days on standby, it used to last an hour. Clearly it doesn't handle Li-ion properly.
