***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The funniest part was people reporting waiting in front of the stores at 7am, 8am, 9am... and being the only people there! I wonder if, despite everyone here thinking that this going to be huge, we find the same thing come Friday?

Likely. I'm not going until doors open.

Soooo frustrating. I have to work at 10am and the earliest any stores around me open is 9am.

I'm going to have to run in, purchase, and run out...and hopefully have time to set it up at work! How can I stop the Verizon sales associates from trying to do the set up on it like they always try to do...?? Eeeeek!

I just read the Bionic forum from AC right before the launch. Funny how much it sounds like this one! So, yeah... PR very early on 9/7 for launch on 9/8. There were a few comments about people getting telesales to "presell" them one on 9/7 to be received on 9/8. But not everyone was able to make that happen and not sure if any of those people actually received them on 9/8. This is very much starting to look like how the Bionic was released.

Well considering how widespread we all are (I still have yet to find more than one person who's going to the same store I am), I don't think there will be many people camping, if any at all... it's a great phone, sure, but it doesn't have the same "new shiny product must have" appeal as an iPhone has. I'm sure the Galaxy Nexus will sell a lot over time, but people will likely walk in and buy it instead of camping out to be the absolute first to get their hands on it.

Our Official Timer Link This is like the ball that drops in Times Square. It's the official time piece of the legendary Gnex thread. :p

Ah, well I have my countdown set to 12 AM Friday... so that's why it's a few hours off. But nonetheless, we're sooooo close! I can't believe we've come this far and we're finally arriving at our destination.

Which reminds me, I feel obligated to make a long post about this journey before Steven closes the thread. It's seriously changed my life (sounds weird, I know, but it really has been fun cracking jokes, sharing rumors and always getting ninja'd, and of course sharing insider info from each of our experiences!)

First post. After reading for a while now I finally had to get in on the action now that we are getting closer to the release. I wanted to be able to say I was part of the thread. Called a store here in Richmond, VA today just to hear what they had to say not expecting much. The guy who answered was clearly excited when I asked about the nexus. He told me if I came in and asked for him he would let me play with it. When I got there he said "this never happened" and took me in the corner and let me play with the nexus for a while. It seemed as though he was finally happy to have someone to talk about the phone with. (I think he worked with a bunch of isheep. i heard them talking to each other saying "no one will ever be able to work the new android. its so confusing") I know the saying pictures or it didn't happen, but i assure you it did. After holding it I was very happy and able to hang on a couple more days. Overall, smaller than I expected after looking at the picture leaks, and a better build quality then the "cheap plastic" comments. I don't know if several people have had my experience at this point, but in the moment i felt special. Can't wait for Friday.
Also, sorry if I am "quoting" someone in this post. I think I am going about doing this the correct way but I am not sure as this is my first time.
annnnnnd cherry popped.
Welcome! Strangely enough, that was exactly how I ended up joining here. I recognized the epicness that is this thread, and felt I had to be part of it before it was too late......and that was almost a month ago!!! Obviously, I was wayyy too optimistic! Ha, ha!
GOOD LORD!

I went on an assignment @ 12 noon and come back to 61 pages of 30 posts per page. I was figuring on winding down and catching up but NOT!

UNCLE! I have been good about looking through all of em but...........

So what did I miss? Any bans, turd tossing, I am leavings or new news?

Or are we still talking to Peggy?
Talking the Peggy. That's hilarious, it could be our own inside joke in the future for speaking with Verizon CSRs, LOL!
Welp... need to hit the hay. Gonna say gnite. I may lurk, as I usually do. :p

Try not to kill each other, k? ;) :p
see what I did there? I added the "k". In music they call that, "variations on a theme." It makes the musical subject (the "tune") more interesting. :p
Good night!
Awww. That's cute. ;) I think horror is my favorite genre, or thrillers with some major psychological and philosophical implications (think Christopher Nolan- my favorite movie of all time is The Prestige, although it is tied with Almost Famous) and then I love anything that is about the entertainment industry it self (like all of Aaron Sorkin's TV shows outside of West Wing - even if they always get cancelled)
Both of those movies are great! The Prestige was absolutely awesome!!
Good night, I am done as well. Lets see what the day light brings us.
Night!

This phone release has more twists then an M. Night Shyamalan
movie

hmmm.... I wonder if he has made a cameo here in this thread LOL!
At this point, I almost wonder if he hadn't been coaching Big Red through this whole ordeal treating it like a new movie, lol!
Looking through cases on amazon and wow, this is terrible...

Simple. Be the first one there at 9AM. Go through the process and firmly tell them that your late for work and will need to set the phone/activate it up later. Yourself. Ask them for the box, get your accessories, pay and run. ; )

Okay, I did some research on how to treat a new lithium ion battery and found the following:

Also, there is no memory effect with a Li-Ion battery so it is not necessary to completely discharge and fully recharge your battery ever. However, they do have a limited life as far as number of charges so try not to unnecessarily charge your phone.

As far as lithium ion battery care, deep cycling is hard on the battery and reduces the life of it. By deep cycling I mean run it dead and recharge it. Phones are programmed to turn off before the battery gets discharged to the point of damaging the battery. Lithium batteries like to be at like 50% charged state and that's usually a good storage point. I like to recharge at the 50% point for regular use. There are charts out there that shows the effects of discharge points and # of cycles before the battery doesn't hold charge well. I don't know the actual numbers but its something like 300-500 cycles full discharges*(when the phone turns off), but like 2000 cycles when ran to 50% and recharged. So you can double the life of the battery by doing half discharge cycles. Topping off a lithium battery doesn't really count as a cycle, as you can do that thousands of times, but its usually impractical.

My point is, don't make it a habit of running the battery dead and recharging it, its much easier on the battery to use half its capacity. With phones and laptops sometimes its not necessary bad to run it till it turns off every once in a while to re calibrate the battery gauge, to make it more accurate, but the more you do, the shorter the life of the battery becomes.

As far as a brand new battery. I'm going to get mine on the charger right away and charge it to 100%. Then try to do a like 5 half cycles and full charges to "break in" or "condition" the battery. Then do a full cycle to calibrate the battery gauge. It's my understanding and believe that the first few cycles of a battery is most important.

The reason why I know this much about lithium batteries is one of my hobbies is racing RC cars. And when you spend $120+ on one battery, you want to find ways to care for it and make it last as long as possible and give peak performance. And if you don't have a low voltage cut off (they don't like to get below 3V a cell) you can ruin a battery after one use if you run it totally dead.

Haha thats the most awkward situation..where your like dude, get your slimey paws off my GNex, I'm a geek!

Good night Nexicans!
Good night BB, I'm off soon too *sleepy*
Sleep well!
Hehe I can't slip anything past you! I'll be showing it off at the ole waterin' hole with my new Coach Crocodile wallet ;)
Yikes!! Well, whatever floats your boat, ha, ha!

Alright, to all the stragglers, I'm off to bed as well. Say it with me, "two more days, two more days, two more days!!" Sweet dreams everyone, play nice!

While true, these cycles are usually done at the factory. I wrote about an anecdote involving one of the highest quality Li-ion bat manufacturers in a previous post here. I am too tired to find it, but my post count is not so high that you could not find it by going though my history.
