Yes, the phone can be blocked. Each phone has a unique set of identifiers that Verizon sees and can also block if needed. As I understand it, every one of these phones has to be registered in their system to begin with (e.g. only phones certified for Verizon will work, keeping people from just making 700mhz LTE phones randomly).

A stolen shipment of phones can just as easily be struck dead by these same methods.

Think what you are saying was true with CDMA phones back in the day, but LTE and even randome CDMA phones are supposed to be able to be developed for Verizon randomly and just take a sim and be on the network. Verizon just needs to certify them somehow and is really only supposed to verify it won't screw up their network, but so far they have kept most large OEMs from bothering with this unsupported by VZW device program.

As you can see here, only commercial sale oriented devices have went through this program. Technically though it's supposed to approve consumer devices marketed at open and hackable sorta devices and that was the whole point of opening this open network initiative portal as this portal was created mostly to placate the FCC and consumer groups and such that were siding with Google after all the C-block rules and auction days. As you can see at the link no such consumer device that is full open and hackable has ever been certified and then marketed independently after passing through this cert process.

Waiting on Nexus... Midnight... No pre-order... Going upstairs to bed... Repeat

But the longer they wait the longer they KNOW they'll get that money from you, if you have unlimited data now you're not going anywhere, so if they can make you wait just a little longer before getting into another 2 year contract then they'll get just a little more money out of you and everyone else in the same situation... oh Verizon knows what they're doing, and what they're doing is making money. They might not be making any friends along the way but they don't care, they're laughing all the way to the bank.

I don't have unlimited data. I'm a current T-Mobile customer. BTW, T-Mobile's "unlimited" data is a farce. They throttle you down to EDGE speeds after like 3 GB down. Which wouldn't be that terrible, aside from the fact that EDGE speeds are so slow that Android phones will actually time stuff out before they get a chance to load. E-mails, websites, market downloads, etc. won't load aka your phone won't work.

But T-Mobile is unlimited! Yay for them right! Or not...sigh, I hate my carrier. All of you with Verizon think you have it bad, just go on over T-Mobile. You'll see.

Thanks for that info and WELCOME!
PS. I read somewhere that COSTCO's accessories come about 8 weeks later. I thought you get them at the time of purchase.

i was in verizon store downtown chicago on state street. they stated phones are in the store and was suppose to launch friday but it is delayed. after pleading with him he went behind the counter and let me play with the one they are testing. all i can say is this phone is awesome and cant wait for release

Welcome to the nut house mrdunnehy!

fantasy scenario #2: somewhere out there is a verizon store employee who truly hates his job, and has it up to here with corporate and their stupid rules. So he snaps, office-space style, and sells every freaking nexus in the store.
he then starts cleaning a fish on the register counter until the manager comes and fires him.

Either that or it earns him a promotion!!!

Anyone have any close contacts or friends in the store that will let us know what when down in the morning?

Also what time is the meeting? I am on the east coast but have a final in the am so not stopping by a store until lunch or so.

I'm surprised more people aren't curious about this, assuming its true of course. I figured Verizon wouldn't be letting Nexi onto their network yet aside from test units. Wonder how this guy got his activated?

Assuming this is true then it might be possible that any Nexus can be activated currently which would allow retailers like Radioshack, BB, Walmart, Costco, etc to start selling these devices. Seems like it would be hard to control non-corporate stores from selling the Nexus early.

Does anyone in this thread have a business rep like this person seems to have?

No.... mine is terrible... knows less than a CSR rep. And the guy that posted is probably full of it.

It appears that according to the Spectrum Auction

"Now, with Google-backed Android phones expected to appear later this year and
Verizon locked into the open-access rules, the wireless company will ultimately have no choice but to allow those phones on its network. "

According to this "That means they can't block devices from accessing the network"

It seems a little cloudy, but that is what I get from it.

"They don't even have service here."

Slightly Off Topic...but I have a question...I know to Unlock the Bootloader on the GNex it will require a couple quick commands via ADB...but when I rooted my OG I never recall having to unlock the bootloader...did the OG Droid's bootloader come unlocked stock?
