***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not a single PR yet today? What gives Verizon? I'm going to periodically check Verizon's stock, I especially want to see what happens when they release/announce the Nexus. :)

For all those that think this has to do with Google Wallet:

Statement from Jeffrey Nelson, spokesperson for Verizon: Recent reports that Verizon is blocking Google Wallet on our devices are false. Verizon does not block applications.
Google Wallet is different from other widely-available m-commerce services. Google Wallet does not simply access the operating system and basic hardware of our phones like thousands of other applications. Instead, in order to work as architected by Google, Google Wallet needs to be integrated into a new, secure and proprietary hardware element in our phones.

Based on this, Verizon doesn't really have a choice. It's not a software issue, it's a hardware issue.

I got it. Eff all the rumor ville from humorville. I think this "delay" is directly related to the shit verizon is trying to pull on the google wallet.

Why? I believe this was a high selling point for google. And that they feel it is going to be big in the coming year(s) so for big red to potentially disable/block or whatever they're doing is not suiting well with google.

Isn't google looking into the idea that what vzw is doing is illegal? And supposedly in discussions with this as we speak? Logic tells me if i'm google , i'm not launching a damn thing until i settle this last minute surprise verizon is pulling.

Does this make sense? Or has there been an update on that dilemma that i may have missed

The Galaxy Nexus is shipping without Google Wallet because Google chose not to put it there, per Verizon's request. Verizon isn't blocking it per se; they just were able to convince Google to keep it off the phone. So unless Google changed their mind all of a sudden, the idea that Google is going after Verizon for something that they did themselves doesn't seem terribly likely.

What you have heard, though, is that some in the media have been speculating that the combined actions of Verizon's pressure + Google's concession = functional "blocking," which violates the terms of the C-block spectrum (used for LTE) auction. Any action would have to be consumer-originating, but with all the press that was generated when this news came out, Verizon may now be concerned that such an action might be a real possibility, and could be investigating whether or not it is a bad idea to release a phone that might cause such a violation.

No one has ANY evidence to support this argument (and no one has even claimed to, from the reports I've read anyway), but it is a thought.

It's funny because when Apple wants to bring the iPhone to Verizon, Verizon lets them run the show. Release date when they choose, no bloat, no disabled features, heavy promotion. Google does the same, and we get a bloated, numerously delayed device with a really compelling feature (Google Wallet) disabled.

And we still don't even know when we can get one.

Actually Verizon has run very few iPhone adds especially if you compare it to their Droid line adds (They made an "iPhone now available on Verizons network add push at first, but then it stopped). Most of those are Apple, AT&T for themselves, or now Sprint has the "Who wants to limit the iPhone" which cracks me up everytime I see it. I just want to yell "Steve Jobs for one!" at the screen.

To be honest the iPhone sells itself. Most people who want an iPhone seemingly already have their mind made up, so they go into the store and get an iPhone. As a tech fan, I don't see that their commercials really "sway" anyone to their phone. My opinion is that basically, once the information is known that you have it, there really isn't much need to advertise it anymore. (Hence the Sprint "We haz iphonez" commercials)

wonder the The Verge hasn't commented on the GN delay..or did I miss something?

Edit: there's just gotta be something going on...its got to be more than LTE, if its a bug i think we'd know by now. Maybe some merit to those reports that its a legal thing between Verizon and Google over some spectrum issues? ahhhh i dunno.

Just called my local Costco. They wouldn't give me a date, but they did confirm they'd have it available whenever VZW releases the phone. More interestingly, I asked about the "Bonus Pack" and was told it will have at a minimum:

Car Charger
"Pouch" (case?)
Screen Protector

There may also be extra stuff thrown in, but the rep wasn't able to confirm anything else at the moment.

I think I'll probably try to head over to Costco tomorrow during lunch and see what happens.

Does this Car Charger refer to the dashboard mount to use it like a GPS?

Also: does anyone know if Verizon will be offering good discounts on accessories? It looks like Costco is winning my business right now at $280 plus free goodie back. Verizon for me is $249 after $50 left over from a new every two plan.

give me something on this. Entertain my wandering mind that needs to get back to work instead of scrolling reading scrolling reading scrolling..

Got an email from a VZ corporate sales rep who said he didn't hear anything from this morning's meeting other than the Nexus was delayed, not cancelled. He said it was supposed to be the last big launch of the year.

FWIW

I know!! He said he's going to keep his D3 and give the LG Vortex, I think, to his daughter.. I just shook my head...

That is one of my biggest peeves, when someone knows you know more than them about electronics and they take your advice and flush it!!

Happens to me at work all the time,Rookies must think that I like to talk just to hear my own voice.

I think the VZW iPhone commercial with the sinking boat is awesome, cause the way I see it, it makes fun of iPhone users. Delicious irony, served with a side of whatever that awesome looking canadien bacon and egg concoction was.

I "thank'd" you..but thanks again lol

Well, strike one for a release tomorrow. Called and talked to the rep that had said they had stock and it would be released Friday and she confirmed it was pushed back and they have no date...however, she stuttered quite a bit which was not how she acted the other day. I think they know, they just aren't allowed to say. She did re-confirm they have them in stock though. She also took my name and number (like the other 4 stores I've called) and said she would call me when she heard something...yeah right.

Of course they know! And most have been good about not talking about it, but some did, and gave many that glimmer.

I think I have a decent connection now (reseller bud) who has little to lose. As was thought long ago by some, I still believe this is going to be a "surprise they're on the shelves come and get em". After all we've been through would anyone be surprised if they were on the floors tomorrow? Not I. Or today? :D

It's a beautiful crisp morning here!

Hey, has this been posted here yet? It's a post from last night in an AC forums thread:
Hey there,

I've been an avid reader for some time, and while I'm sure this will probably be discarded, I would just like to let you know what I've heard from my friend who works for Verizon Corporate:

Late yesterday, and mainly earlier today. the network's 4G system experienced a similar crash as has happened in the past, affecting most customers while keeping 3G/voice, for the most part, in working order. While they're in the process of bringing the system back up (the estimated time frame is approximately 10PM Wednesday-3AM Thursday EST), Verizon dropped the Dec. 9th release date for the Nexus due to these issues. The plan, as of this afternoon, is to monitor the recovery and stability of the 4G network for 36-48 hours. If no issues arise, and coverage is maintained across 4G markets, the company is planning on allowing a soft launch of the Nexus sometime Friday afternoon, allowing for the device to be sold both in corporate and 3rd party stores. Following the XYBoard launch on Monday, the device will be made available for sale online Monday (potentially Sunday afternoon/evening) the stores will be allowed to put up signage for the device and the Verizon homepage will reflect the launch of the Nexus as well as the new tablets. Granted, if any issues arise in the recovery of the 4G network, or the network fails to maintain a consistent up-time, then the launch of the device will be pushed back to the 15th. They do not want to launch a premier device with spotty network coverage, which is totally understandable.

I'm sure you get a million and one tips a day regarding this damn phone, and take most of them with a grain of salt, but I'm confident this information is spot on, so feel free to use it how you wish!
Would be very exciting if true!!

OT:

I need someone to develop an app that is part notepad and part spreadsheet so I can easily keep track of Christmas gifts I've gotten people, who still needs gifts and any ideas that pop into my head.

Wow, Steven. I have been a lurker on this thread for quite some time, but I really wanted to commend you for that post. It takes a lot to come out and say something like that, and I think it really says something about this site and this group. You really do deserve each of the kind words that so many have said about you.
Welcome! Yes, it is that awesome here (as you can see from being in lurkdom!)
Hey everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm super excited for this phone. It's a shame we're hearing about these delays to the 13th. Personally, I will head down to several corporate stores in NY and NJ tomorrow (or should I say today?) and Friday and see what is going on and who knows what. I'll be sure to let you all know what happens when I get back. Epic thread you guys have here by the way. :)
Glad you joined the party:)
Good evening everyone! I'm a new member of the family but wanted to chime in tonight with my little adventure today. No juicy news but for what it's worth I figured I'd share it with you guys. So on my lunch break today I headed over to the Verizon store to speak to some of the sales associates. They all know I work in retail too and we usually swap war stories of the holidays. But today I decided to for the first time bring up the Nexus with them and they all looked like deer in headlights. They just kept tip toeing around the subject saying they didn't know anything besides that it was coming out before the end of the year. One of the guys asked me what I'd heard about a release date so I said the 9th and that it wasn't looking to likely now. He replied with, "well you know more then me then........." I could tell that they were all blatantly lying and were being forced to keep their lips sealed so I just said, "I understand". Lol. The guy said just before I left, "I don't blame you for holding out, it should be worth it."

Probably could have made of simplified version but I have no one to talk to about this phone becides you guys pretty much. Friends, family, & girlfriend could all care less :p

So that was my attempt to get some answers, but I feel slightly a bit more optimistic after that experience.
Hi!
G'mornin,

I'm off to watch a clients back........door.

I am off to Florida to see the family the 17th and hope I have the GN in tow testing the GPS on the way home and test panoramas of the river to post.

MoM's house has a patio running the rear length of the house with all bedroom's having glass doors for the view and access.
I awoke one AM to see a weather system making way for a sunrise and grabbed my camera & coffee.

Wow, that is a stunning image!
Gooooooood morning Nexicans! I hope today is a bit calmer than yesterday. Please play nice with one another. It not only makes it a much more pleasant day but it makes our mods jobs that much easier.
Morning BB! I love your new avi, lol!
I'm still 50/50 on it coming out tomorrow. My sister and I talked late last night (nothing new to report, and most of the conversation wasn't about the Gnex, so I didn't post anything), but she did tell me that everyone who's talking about it doesn't see one single reason to delay it.

She heard yesterday (as I posted) that there were some bugs that came out during testing, but she figures that was old news.

The 4G outage, she said, might be a reason, but they didn't think it would take that long to fix, certainly not a few days.

I have a feeling that Verizon simply got pissed at their release date being leaked like crazy, and they decided to simply tell their store reps that December 9 was no longer in play. Maybe during the meeting today they will say it's back on, and to shut up about it.

Who knows.
Verizon is being so frakking weird about this!
In Light of our 70k Post, I present to you an updated Chart:

I haven’t seen one in quite a while so I figured I would go ahead and make one up. Here are some interesting facts.

Our Maximum Posts per Hour are found during the 11/11 Announcement delay, the 11/18 announcement, and interestingly enough, yesterday during the delay scandal.

Maximum Posts/Hr is: 283 (During 11/18 announcement)
Shortest time for 1k Posts is: 3.5 Hours.

Enjoy! :D

Well done!
Night all. Nexus dreams.
Good morning all nexiholics!!
Ok, I must explain myself. I am now certain I have lost it! I finally had a dream about the phone. (Thanks, Cincy, lol!) So, my first inclination when I woke at 8:30, was to share it with all you! Instead, I decided to try to catch up the thread to this morning....Bad idea! I gave up around 9:15AM (that's time of post, not actually 9:15AM) and tried to scan til now. Even so, I realize this is a rediculous amount of multi-quoting..
I have gone so deep now that I have logged in on my PC as I type from my phone so I can try to time this reply so it doesn't get buried. I apologize to the new members that I have missed this morning, welcome to you all, too!

Finally, just gonna reiterate, how special Android forum is. I have read about ( and began to myself) share more real-life details with the fine folks here than anywhere else on the internet. That is a special thing! Now, to catch up on what I missed while writing this....

First of all, I'd like to say that if we all sit back and think about it, at this point, It has got to be in Verizon's best interest to get this phone on the floor and selling. The R-phones have been out almost a month, GSM versions are most likely coming to US in January, therefore the money they spent on a Christmas exclusive will be wasted if they don't get it out soon. It just doesn't make sense not to get this thing selling as soon as they can. There must either be a legal or technical issue holding it up.

warning....a little venting, feel free to ignore...

With that being said, I need to figure something out, I've got one phone, mine, on T-mobile, my wife got her new Verizon 4S on Tuesday. So right now I'm paying for an individual plan on T-mo and Verizon and when you add early termination fees from T-mobile, Christmas shopping, and things like that, this "HIGHLY PAID" Oklahoma public school teacher needs this phone to come out. I wish they would let me just buy the thing, start my family plan at Verizon and just keep my phone in the back of the store for a week, financially it would still be a better buy then having two individual plans!!!!! It also doesn't make sense to rent a phone for a week, because the $35 restocking fee would bite into any money I'd save by having 1 family plan.....Dang it, it was going to be sooooooooo perfect if it came out this week!!!!!!

PS - I think teachers in Oklahoma, and in general should get paid more, but just a little more, It's the best job in the world, I get Fall Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break, and Summer Break, that's approx. 14 weeks of paid vacation, not gonna find that anywhere else, that's a lot of fun time with the kiddos!!! I respect the hell out of all of you working 40 to 60 hour weeks with probably just 2 weeks of vacation a year!!! Here's to all of you people out there with real jobs, you make the world go round!!!

Venting over, have a happy Nexmas everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

PS - Steven your a stud, and deserve the free nexus! I have the utmost respect for you and the immense amount of CHARACTER you display in here and obviously have!!!! You remind me of one of the coaches I work with here who is one of the most giving and selfless people I've ever known. I'm betting you guys would be two peas in a pod!! Congrats again and we will all be praying for your wife to have a speedy and painless recovery! Thanks for everything you do!!!

Friend who owns reseller says their Regional manager passed along a "12/15, due to failed software update" message yesterday.

Take that for whats its worth....

At least 2 weeks is becoming 1 week =) Of course were also running out of "2 weeks..."
