***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

How bad is VZW going to look tomorrow, because with absolute certainty, some third party retailer somewhere will definitely sell it tomorrow, be it mistake or not. And after sending out the phones to the retail channels, surely vzw doesn't have the authority to tell these retailers that they just have to let the phones sit on their shelves and collect dust until further notice do they??

Don't ever underestimate the power of the dark side

So in other words, get a phone we know is great and actually exists (Rezound/Razr) and wait for ICS to hit them...gee, where I have heard that before? That might be my Plan B. Since Verizon, as the article alludes to, has already diluted the true 'Nexus experience', is there really such a huge advantage to waiting and waiting and waiting for this thing to hit.

I'm also now wondering if there aren't real problems with this phone that are being hidden. I don't buy the LTE issues over the last 2 days as the reason anymore, I really don't. There is something going on here than we're not aware of.

I talked to a sales guy from a local Radio Shack store on the phone and he says they are expecting a shipment of product today and it may have the Galaxy Nexus in it. He asked that I call back tonight around 5pm to see if it came in.

I asked if it comes in, if I could come in tomorrow to buy it from him and he said as long as it comes in and they aren't told they can't sell it, I can buy it. We'll see what happens! But yeah it looks like Radio Shack is willing to sell it as long as they aren't mandated by upper management not to.

It'll be funny if Verizon won't sell the phone tomorrow and everyone ends up buying it at Radio Shack. The only thing I've ever bought at Radio Shack are batteries you can't find anywhere else..

If this phone is not out by next week, VZW will have killed their fan base who are waiting to buy this phone.

Unfortunately, even if Verizon announced that they were scrapping the SGN for good, most of us would still stick around. They would justify it by blaming Google's software or some crap like that, and they would then just ignore it. They know that. So they don't care what we want or when we want it.

The reason we'd stick around? You said it yourself:

I'll be going to VZW tomorrow night to make the switch from AT&T to VZW simply because I need the service in my office which AT&T does not do for me.

It's the "best" frakking network available for most people.

Now, AT&T isn't too bad in Chicago, and their 4G is up and running here, so I have no aversion whatsoever to jumping ship. But my wife doesn't want to pay the ETF on her line, so we're stuck for the time being.

I just called the local VW store and spoke to the rep there, and was told he has no idea as to when it will be released. However, if I wanted to come in and see the phone, check out the accessories, and get a feeling for what is available I could come in anytime.

I was trying to see if the GNex with the extended battery would still fit in the dock, or the car mount. He didn't know but said I could come in and check it out.

So HAN, with that in mind I doubt your rep was fired because he showed it to you when mine invited me in to play with it. (The phone that is.) :D

And my rep would say your rep will be fired for showing it to you. Man Verizon is really sending mixed messages to its employees:eek:

Along the lines of people disliking the GN...
A friend of mine works at the local VZW call center. He dislikes Android and says that it's not as simple as the iPhone. To clarify, he's a ifanboy. Anyway, our typical discussion of such things goes as follows:

Him: The Android has fragmentation problems.
Me: So does the iPhone, but the iPhone offers no choice in MFG.
Him: The UI is simple and user friendly.
Me: It's stagnant and boring. It offers no options in variety and next to no customization.
Him: I get more calls about people having problems with Androids than iPhones.
Me: That's because the typical user is stupid and fails to understand their actions.
Him: But the iPhone doesn't have that problem.
Me: Because the user can't do nearly as much.
Him: I can do everything on an iPhone that you can on an Android.
Me: You believe that because you don't know what I can do on an Android.
Him: I'm just saying that Androids are more difficult for people to use.
Me: I'm just saying that iPhones are for people who aren't smart enough to have a smartphone.

He concedes my points as being valid and walks away still stating that the iPhone is superior. I roll my eyes and let him know that I'm still praying for him.

Actually AT&T will probably get this before we do. Their exclusivity window given by Google can't last forever.

Frakking idiots.

Which is why VZW didn't get it with the iPhone. Apple went to VZW first to offer the phone, they turned it down. Just think of the dollars VZW lost when they turned down Apple and Apple went to AT&T for three years before they opened it up to other carriers. It's in the billions.

Verizon has to have some control over these guys because otherwise what stops them from selling it right now if they are in stock? Why is the 9th the magic date, since pretty much the 9th is long gone in any system now.

I'd assume the agreement to be an "Authorized" retailer would be to follow Verizon's rules or else you lose that "Authorized" title.

Well the best thing I can do this coming weekend is to enjoy it and wait for next week's madness. Doesn't seem like there will be much information today (or tomorrow). Pessimism is wearing me down.

LOL funny, That said did you get approval to post the conversation? did the person know they were being recorded?

OK.......... In Georgia, by LAW it is LEGAL to record a conversation be it a phone line or otherwise on one condition.

One of the persons being recorded HAS to be INVOLVED in the and have full knowledge the conversation is being recorded.

You cannot legally tape your wife and boyfriend's conversations unless one of them is aware they are being recorded.

I think they're message is very clear. I just don't believe some of the stores/emplyoees are as competent as they should be.

Im seriously considering trying to go this route..Sounds like after the cease and desist e-mail sent to everyone yesterday by evil Big Red, Radioshack is the only company blatantly ignoring it, lol!

I highly doubt we're going to be seeing any sales tomorrow regardless of whether they want to play nice or not. The system will most likely not let them upgrade to the Gnex. They have to start either a new 2-year contract or renew, and they'd have to go through the system to do it, no?

Now, I suppose there is an extremely slim chance that someone will be able to buy an unsubsidized phone for full price, and just walk out the door. But I just highly doubt it.

Verizon are specialists at being anal retentive control freaks.

Frakking idiots.

When does the exclusivity window start though? Does it start from the first day of VZW releasing it? If not, when would it have started?

I was told yesterday that my Costco would be selling the phone tomorrow despite the rumors of the delay. (even the manager knew about the rumors, so it wasn't just some rep uninformed on the situation)

I called this morning and just hung up right now expecting some bad news of a delay. I was told that the release is still on for tomorrow morning. I'm so close I can taste it...and that has nothing to do with my dessert treat I am eating right now.

It's not releasing tomorrow. The guy has no clue what he's talking about. Sorry, this thing is DOA. If you listen hard, you can hear the fat lady singing.

See, I would be just morbidly amused by this point. Verizon is laughably evil...

But there is a girl, ladies and gentlemen, and I cannot hold out forever. I can't justify waiting anymore after six months, especially when girls are involved.

I might have to give in.

I'd get the Rezound, not the PoS RAZR. But still, what a failure. What a miserable, absolute failure. The Galaxy Nexus easily tops the list of worst product launches of all time.

EDIT: NVM, FORGOT ABOUT AMD BULLDOZER!

At least the Galaxy Nexus is good lol

Of course I have no idea. But I assume there was some contract to begin and end on certain dates. Verizon doesn't have the best reputation for timely releases anyway, and I'm sure Google and Samsung want to have the opportunity to sell through the other carriers in the U.S. If they didn't insist on a specific window of exclusivity, then they're bigger idiots than Verizon.

With all this talk of the failed launch and possible cancellation... I guess when does the $99 Nexus Fire sale start? :)

j/k - not trying to start a rumor, nor do I believe the phone is actually being cancelled.

When does the exclusivity window start though? Does it start from the first day of VZW releasing it? If not, when would it have started?

Based on the fact that the AT&T version hit FCC, I'd say the timer started sometime back - maybe when Samsung first gave it to Verizon saying "we're ready"?

Here's the reason I believe there is no official launch date -- Verizon doesn't want to get further bad press if they can't meet it. They're tired of the leaks, rumors, and speculation. We know stores have the phone, we know reps know about the phone, we know we want the phone. It will be released soon, Verizon just doesn't want to say when, one day it will just be available.
