***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

My conspiracy theory (THIS IS JUST WILD SPECULATION ON A POSSIBLE CAUSE FOR DELAY): The Google Wallet fiasco. Verizon has a competing technology so they do not want this native-function available to their users. Google called them out on blocking this feature and they want to save face.

It has been widely shared that Verizon is not legally permitted to block the application, so their response is that they are not releasing the device until Samsung replaces all the batteries with non-NFC compliant ones. This change would make it so the Galaxy Nexus will no longer support NFC on the hardware side and this will remove the need for Verizon to assume liability and reputational risk for illegally blocking an application.

If I'm right, we are waiting for shipments of replacement batteries before the device will be launched.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't NFC still functional on the phone?

it would seem that there would only need to be a software update to allow google wallet to function, not the replacement of every battery

It's all marketing and they are blaming others to cover their butts.

The new broken Nexus Kool Aide is tasty, but please don't drink it.

I'm starting to figure it's marketing/legal after hearing a manager tell a salesman not to say VZW is "blocking" wallet. I am not sure why a SALES manager would concerned about someone saying that when the guy was talking to someone that is obviously read up on all the rumors going around and had kinda started the wallet talk, unless he had dictates to keep actual VZW peeps from agreeing to the "blocking" terminology. And their official statement on the issue really did sound like they are blocking it essentially, but legally had to say it's for technical issues/security issues which I doubt to be the real reason.

BTW, I am guessing it's all together possible they are blocking it because they have authentic security concerns, but that goes out the window if ISIS is available before Wallet. If that happens it's purely a block for C-block rules type anti competitive reasons.

Yes I would be very clear with the manager if I were in Sam's shoes that I will come back and this salesman had better still be here, or I will contact the media, if the manager is holding the guys job as the reason for returning...

Record your conversation with the store employees with your android phone voice recorder!!!!

It was mentioned tens of thousands of posts back by Miss Piggy, but it was pretty much shot down quickly. I still think we see it next Thursday.

Yes. As she described it, it was merely a discussion that came up in a meeting, and some people freaked and started talking about it.

She said that it looks like the 15th and emails would be (have been?) sent out to corporate stores.

But then again, who knows. I can tell that even Miss Piggy is getting tired of all the antics.

got to return it seriously...

Good on you - it's not worth getting the phone a few days early if someone is going to lose their job over it!

If there was a serious problem with the phone and LTE it would have never been leaked that it would release 12/9. A major problem with this phone and LTE would have been uncovered months ago...

If it has something to do with Wallet...The lawyers will decide when to release this thing.

Yes wallet could very well be the case. I mentioned this thousands of post ago. Oh boy ... lawyers ... we could be to the next nexus phone by the time the lawyers squeeze the life out of this situation.

Yoyoyo
Obligatory was a lurker, have decided to say hi post.
What's up? This thread has consumed many many hours of my life since its creation, it's only right that I would post. I've been talking about this phone so much, that even my fiancee has admitted to checking here for updates.
It has been a roller coaster, hopefully we will all have our phones soon.

Sup Scotty. This thread is much more entertaining than the AC Galaxy Nexus forum :)

Glad you decided to come over, too.

I went to my local VZW corp store this morning.
They told me that the Galaxy Nexus is under a quarantine because of the manufacture. VZW is not accepting the phone as is for some reason.

Sorry for the bad news.

See, now this I believe. There is something wrong with the Nexus as it has to do with Verizon network. Maybe it can be fixed quickly via software/firmware and it will be released asap or not. This passes the commonsense test to me. Not marketing, not in the weeds conspiracies, a real problem that needs to be dealt with. Maybe wallet, maybe lte, we dont know.

Not defending VZW this is a major epic fail. But it is a real reason ... not a conspiracy.

I did not want to say this ,But here it is;

If if the problem is not settled, VZW is going to send the Nexus back to the manufacture and they will be done with it.:(

Well I just walked into a corporate VZW and thw CEO of VZW was there and so was the head of marketing.

I proceeded to turning front wheel kick the CEO in the face and then I hit the head of marketing with a back fist and a round kick to the gut.

True story. :)

I would definitely contact every major tech/android blog if I were Sam. I would gather evidence, document returning it and then send each of them a nice little folder with lots the details. If big red isn't embarrassed yet but his fiasco of a launch, they should be by something like this.

Also does anyone else feel lately like VZW is a pirate Ship and all the deckhands are muntinying!?

No that is the sellers fault for selling one early nothing falls on the buyer, the seller should know better.

So you're saying because someone messed up, screw them, let them get fired for being an idiot and trying to help the SamMax out?

I disagree. The way I see it, you've got to look long-term. When he returns the phone, assuming the salesperson doesn't get fired, he now has a friend for life. Guess who will probably have one held for him when it does come out? SamMax. Who will probably get discounts on accessories? SamMax. Who will be able to sleep tonight because he did his best to not screw over someone who made a mistake for his benefit? SamMax.

Having said all this about what is the right thing to do. Had that been me that it was sold to, I would run out of the store with it and speed home, maybe even find a protected bunker and they could get the phone back from me when they could pry it from my cold, dead hands. Also, I don't know that I would have ran on the forum posting that I got one either. That's what makes people lose their jobs. The bad PR they get from one leaking accidentally then everyone getting mad because they didn't get one too. I think if you get one today, keep it to yourself.

Nice thing about corporate marketing - one memo spawns all of the troops repeating the story.

I would make a reference to the infamous politician that said any lie is believable if repeated often enough but I am going to deny BlueBiker the humor of a mod Godwinning a thread and not even mention it.

So, you never read this, ok?

For all those saying that you would not return the phone. Is a phone worth it to you knowing that the person who sold it to him would lose his job over it?

How about these $0.10 apps? ADW EX, SwiftKey, airsync, great little war game. Some fantastic apps. Skipped my morning coffee and picked up a handful of apps.

Still can't purchase anything...sounds like Google Wallet isn't letting transactions through, at least in some regions.

SamMax if you haven't returned the phone yet, I'd call up Verizon (but don't give the store you purchased it from's information) and ask why you would be sold a phone, and ask for a reason why you need to return it.

People talking about the right thing to do and being afraid someone would lose their job....the right thing to do was to not buy it in the first place if you were afraid someone would lose their job.
This. If you're concerned with costing someone their job, don't go looking to buy the phone today. This isn't a dig at Sam, just a general statement. I, for one, will not go hunting for the phone today simply because I'm just not up for hearing "no" that many times.
