***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I was actually going to order a Galaxy Note to use with AT&T and just forget about any other phones, but you guys have me so excited for the Galaxy Nexus....I can't take it anymore, I'm going nuts :D
The Note is pretty decent and the 1280x720 screen is dazzling. Got the GNex a week later. Now waiting for the VZW GNex so I can be on a network that's usable in midtown Manhattan at 1pm in the afternoon. No AT&T phone is usable on data during those hours.

OK, now here's a problem from my adventures in Best Buy MobileLand. I just logged into My Verizon and clicked "upgrade my phone". When I was taken to the phones page, my discounted pricing is gone.

I called *611 and explained what happened today. She was very rude and said "hold on". The line was silent for almost 5 minutes. Then she hung up on me. I called at 10:55. I know they close at 11 p.m. but really? Hung up on me? I clicked on the "chat now" button and explained this to the CSR there and she said I'd have to call *611. I said they are closed and the CSR hung up on me. She apolozied and said, nothing she can do.

Seems that's VZW's MO these days. They can do NOTHING.

But this should have all been on the table when negotiations about verizon carrying it and "exclusivity" not 4 months later. I cannot see them not talking about this and including/excluding it from the start and both parties agreeing.
Verizon probably thought nothing of it, they told Google it couldn't have Google Wallet, Google complied, a leak got out that Verizon forced Google not to put it on there, people got mad, lawyers got involved, Verizon freaked, Nexus delayed indefinitely..

The Wallet thing is interesting. The GSM version doesn't have Wallet does it? Doesn't seem like this would be enough to cause a further delay.

i thought wallet was USA only for now anyway? so iirc and it is USA only, it wouldnt be on the intl version

I was actually expelled from my first Catholic school in 3rd grade. All that really meant was that the nuns gave up and handed me off to the Jesuits, who had corporal punishment down to a fine art. Word got around in the new school and I had it easy :D

The nuns never struck anybody, they legally weren't able to at this point. Though, I'm sure if they could, my ass would STILL be raw.

You know, I totally forgot that was coming to Joliet. We may just have to make this happen.

I'm in. We'll talk more as release gets closer!

I know usually it takes a day or so for your upgrade to be restored and since you were in store today trying to buy and almost did it may take some time to show it again for you.

I was thinking about the monumental task of actually launching the phone. All of the division and people that have to coordinate everything (communications, marketing, CSR, shipping, telesales, tech support, retail, resellers, Google, Samsung, etc...). It would be like the huge amount of effort/energy to get a locomotive rolling. And then they stopped it once it was rolling. And the huge amount of energy/effort that it took to stop the release. Whatever their reason for starting the release or stopping it... it cost them a ton in money, resources, and PR. It had to be a really important reason or it would not have been worth the effort.

It is verizon that we are talking about here though lol:confused:

If this ISIS google wallet thing is true then verizon is turning into apple. Telling us what we Can and CANNOT do with our device. It should be OUR choice what services we want to use not the carriers.

It seems like it's cool to hate on Apple, but in reality they were the first cellphone manufacturer that told the carriers to keep their hands off of their device, and to just handle the network. If the rumors about Wallet being removed at the request of Verizon are true, then Google seems to be the carriers bitch, just like HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG, etc. all cave in and put metric tons of bloat on their phone to be sold by the carrier.

Could somebody either link me or post the picture on the evolution of Android vs. iPhone picture? I googled it and couldn't find it right away and figured at the rate of this thread, someone would respond quicker than me actually searching more for it :)

A little birdy just told me that Google employees are getting their phones next week. "Handing them out like candy" was part of the phrase used.

FWIW, others are saying the Google Wallet is not the cause for the delay.

Probably means we won't be seeing them till the 22nd of after then

A couple of reasons I have no problem with it. Early phone purchases happen all the time. ReZound and Incredible to name a couple I know of. If it was so SUPER important that these phones aren't given to the public, they never should've been shipped yet. It's Verizon's corporate mismanagement that brought this on.

If I got a GNex, would I shout from the mountaintops that Joe from Store 53 sold it to me? No. But I have no problem with people asking if they can purchase this phone.

On top of that I find it deplorable that VZW would put their employee's and third party retailers in a position to fire peeps over sales of this phone. It's just ludicrous. If you don't want it sold, don't ship it to retailers. If you decide you don't want it sold AFTER it has shipped suck it up and deal with sales starting. It's like there's a bunch of Mayberry Barnie Fife's who aren't even good natured like him running VZW or something.

Here are some of my theories explaining the rumored delay of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus from the 12/9 date we previously believed.

  • Google Wallet - With all the hoopla yesterday about google wallet not being on the G'Nex, it's possible that this was the first time the Verizon legal team took notice of this issue. Obviously, doing something as antitrusty as blocking google wallet, and then putting ISIS on the phone even though it uses the same "security risk" would draw some heat, and maybe the legal team has advised them to allow Google Wallet to avoid an antitrust suit, and they're cooking up a last minute fix to allow it.
  • The 4G LTE Outage - Bad PR to launch a phone on a network that's down. Terrible first impression for new users. Maybe they need time to get everything back up and running.
  • Bug Fix - Maybe they found a last minute bug that needs patching.
  • Stock Price - With Black Friday over, maybe Verizon is content with it's Q4 2011 numbers and would rather push the G'Nex into Q1 2012 to boost those figures instead.
  • RAZR - It's not secret that the Droid RAZR is Verizon's favorite phone right now. We don't know how well it's selling, but presumably it will sell more units if it has a few more days without the Nexus competition. I mean, it comes in white now!
  • Curse - scottg96 made a post about the 12/9 release date and jinxed it for us all.

Went to the local corporate store to see if I could play with a demo unit. The guy at the front that meets you and signs you up for what you need told me they are no longer allowed to let people play with it. He also stated they hope to be selling them next Friday.

Just pissed me off as I really wanted to play with it to see if its the phone I really wanted. Grr...

No reason why they can't, right? Verizon can't block them per the C-block rules, right? Before this GW/ISIS mess, I would have thought "sweet, next week is it!" but now I'm just not sure. Just because google hands them out doesn't mean we will see it anytime soon, I'm afraid. :(

OT Time Killer,

Took the Cell phone carrier out for a bit today.

The cooler weather is good for 20 more HP. Fun.Luv My Truck!

Officially, my stance is street racing is dangerous. Take it to a track next time if you need to show off.

Unofficially, 125mph? Why so slow? Did your panties start to twist or something. :D

I don't believe the rumors of the device being delayed because of Google Wallet. Apparently, not all stores have GN's in stock. It doesn't make sense to launch a device when not every store has them in stock. Plus, Verizon is known to launch devices on Thursday's, so a release for today didn't seem to make sense.

I think this "launch delay" had more to do with logistics than with GW. At least that's my viewpoint.
