I still disagree. If this were true we would have to ask if the Canadian carriers, European carriers and if AT&T and T-mobile (with the Nexus S) are also blocking Wallet.

Just this morning, some testers were reporting a new update that they had just gotten, and I believe one stated it was 4.0.3. Another 5 days of testing would put them on track for the 15th.

The 9th was set and then canned. Next week Verizon reloads and tries again. I also believe that the 15th is their absolute last cut-off date for retail availability. They will sell with or without bugs at that point. Why? Because every day they lose at this point means lost sales as people spend more and more money for holiday season. Dec 22 makes no sense, it is way too close to Christmas. And by the week after next, most people are on vacation already.

We will have it by the 15th. This whole Google Wallet stuff is just blog ad-click fodder and the stuff conspiracy is made of.

Since the forum's moving a bit slow, I'd love to solicit the advice from some of you

I consider myself quite good with technology, but never made the jump to a smart phone (really loved my sleek LG Decoy, had 12 gigs of music through sd card). So, SGN will be my first GN.

Any suggestions (or links to sources) for must-have apps to get when me, or anyone else, gets their hand on the SGN?

Where should I go to find out how to root it, and what program will then allow tethering?

I realize these might be slightly diverging from the thread topic, and are probably on the top 10 list of questions n00bs ask - I appreciate your pointing me in the right direction!

Rooting has its very own sub thread which is very informative. Once you go that route I would say a must have app is titanium back up.
Other apps all depend on if you want more customization on looks or want to play games or use the browser. Personally I recommend Go SMS. It has themes and a lot of functions that most native messaging doesn't have. And screen filter is great when it's darker and you want to tone down the whiteness of your screen.

The reason this phone is delayed isn't because of bugs. There haven't been any severe bugs that are detrimental to everyday use of the phone so far. If there are bugs, Verizon should (keyword: should) just release the phone and worry about bugs later. That's the whole point of it being a Nexus.

This is why I think the reason this phone has been delayed is not because of bugs. I'm not sure why it is delayed, but I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't make sense for them to hold it back due to bugs.

Plus, didn't a few people confirm that it was just corporate execs who decided to hold this thing back a little bit and not hit the 12/9 deadline?

please share some info...as far as i've heard ICS went from 4.0.1 - 4.0.2 - 4.1....i'm inclined to beleive you just would like to know where ya got your info?

I came for the nexus, but stayed for the history discussion...

Some battles were known by the southern name though: Shiloh and Vicksburg for instance. I always got a kick out of the Civil War (War between the States?) naming conventions. Geez, i'm a geek And a nerd.

I have grown to refer to things by their most common names when discussing things with people that weren't there, but I tend to refer to things by their southern names when speaking to others.

I still find it interesting that people get upset about violence in movies and on television these days when we used to sit and have picnics during many of the battles. Of course many of them that were really close to home were not as interesting since Atlanta was burning at the time. You also have a completely different perspective of things when soldiers are looting, raping and pillaging in your area as well.

I read this earlier and honestly thought he got the info from your post earlier...i still have no reason to think otherwise...i appreciate all of you and your sources input but am not sold on that idea...it seems like the Google Wallet issue would've been worked out during contract negotiations...as i'm sure everyone else is i'm very skeptical about ALL leaked info at this point...please keep your info coming cause i do really appreciate it but at this point there's no telling what's going on behind closed doors and we will get the phone when we get the phone!!!

My actual guess is that it's related to googles desire to have this an untouched pure google device and VZW's desire to make it a VZW device all culminating around google wallet vs ISIS which is probably where the most cash exists even beyond this devices lifetime. Agreements and precedent on such matters could be birthed on such matters with this device. Ever since googles meddling with C-Block rules though I have been waiting to see something like this go down. Pretty sure this is just the first of many battles to get an open google device onto VZW. With Moto they will have more direct control of how such things are handled even though they claim Moto will be independent.

Would love to know in a couple of years the software update was just random zeros and ones the phone downloads to fake Lowell McAdam and his goon squad into thinking there was something that was fixed. To think Google didn't get it right the first time is crazy. If they had such bad problems the European release would have gone worse. Another way of looking at it is this: HTC, Motorola, Samsung all have released phones on verizon since we have been waiting. They are not pure devices in the sense because they have the skins and bloat loaded ontop of android. The nexus is pure no crap and the nexus requires more stringent testing? I call BS.

I'm not to sure I would get much use out of Google wallet so it doesn't really bother me if it's on there, mainly cause in my small podunk town it wouldn't catch on like it would in a big city. But if this delay is really because Google might be forcing Verizons' hand in this. That is great. KARMA. For bloating our phones with things we don't want and now they have to put something on there that they don't want. Hilarious!!

For that, I could wait until the 15th.

But how do you know there aren't bugs? All we know is what the testers have leaked out to us (and yes that includes P3). They actually have the LTE Gnex and have had it for several weeks. They were stating that the phone was buggy and that there were LTE connection issues. The very few members here that got them today haven't had them for a full 24 hours. There could be bugs that they haven't found yet, so just because they haven't said anything doesn't mean otherwise.

Verizon doesn't want another Thunderbolt or another Bionic.

And for just as many sources that there are coming out and saying "its a corporate thing" there are other sources saying "its not quite ready". But like I said before, I'm not buying that whole corporate argument. The 9th was clearly set for launch as it was in the system. Verizon pulled the plug at the very last minute. This wasn't a corporate decision, as you don't get to be the best network in America by making corporate decisions like that, like chickens running around without heads. They delayed it for a very good reason. Whether it is because of remaining bugs or because of the LTE network issues, I trust that it was a good decision.

if you followed P3droid, PydePyper, Miami1683 and the likes on twitter who were/maybe some still are testers for the device you would know that there were software bugs on the phone...and those bugs had to do with connectivity...connectivity problems are DETRIMENTAL to a phones launch...if the latest build, 4.1, just came out of testing then we should be good to go...VZW as a business will not sell a phone that can't be used as a phone...I don't beleive the GW v ISIS rumors as this should have been worked out much earlier and is likely not even mentioned in the contract that was signed months ago if not a year ago...these things take time

I know P3 said that the had 4.1. Perhaps the testing units are broken up into separate categories and build numbers, one for testing out imminent releases (like the soak tests) and one for testing future updates (like developer builds). The latter could be used to give more experimental and un-finished updates for testing, the earlier would be for updates they are planning on releasing soon.

I don't pretend to know one way or the other. A I have to go on is the rumors I read here, and combination can be valid.

But...

A "bugs later" approach might fly for some minor tweaks, but not for everything. Remember when Apple's alarm clock bug blew up all over the Gawker sites & morning radio? And that was pretty minor, as far as most of us are concerned. If there were some connectivity issues, that could potentially KILL a phone for a good number of buyers, because once a bug is fixed, it doesn't get nearly the media coverage that the "broken P.O.S. Nexus phone" headline gets.

And consider customer service call centers and returns.

If this was strictly a "developer phone" with low distribution numbers to hard-core users, that would be one thing. But this phone is going nuclear with all the coverage it has received, and a little bug has the potential to hurt Verizon or Google in the wallet.

You're getting good advice on the whole systemsy thing, so I'll add a recommendation for the Spotify music app.

Exactly.

And I don't know about anyone else, but when I get my Nexus, I want it to be as perfect as possible. I don't wanna go home after spending 300 bucks on a phone and have stuff not work. Some people would say they'd rather have the phone so they can get off this crazy train already and to fix the bugs later.

But if you get the Nexus and it's got an issue, all that's going to happen is, you're going to back on the same forums and curse Verizon/Google for releasing it with whatever issue it has, you're going to obsess over how to temporarily fix it, and you are going to spend all of your time worrying when Google is going to update your phone to fix it rather than be a happy Nexus owner. It's jumping off of one train to jump back onto another.

Personally, Verizon can keep their Nexus until they get whatever it is fixed. And trust me, I want a Nexus phone. I've wanted one since I watched the Nexus One being unveiled. I'm currently using a T-Mobile G1 (yes, a G1) with CyanogenMod 6. It barely functions. So yeah, I want the Galaxy Nexus, and I wanted it three weeks ago, but I don't want a buggy experience.

I don't know about you guys, but I see all these reviews about the Nexus and how beautimous the display is, but I've heard it's the kind of thing you have to see to believe.

I just want to see this darned thing already. All of you who have said your reps tell you to come in to the store today or tomorrow or whatever, I have nothing from any stores anywhere. Maybe I just have to go to the stores and find out, but I've called EVERY SINGLE reseller that will have the Nexus within a 50 (!!!) mile radius of me and they have given me NOTHING.

I just want this to get over with. I want the phone!!! I WANT IT BAD.

Dude go to a corporate store. Ask for Nexus info. Peek around the counters and the reps hands... someone will probably have one. That's what I did, today. If you go to the Bloomingdale store, they'll tell you that it's coming out on Monday and you can come back here and adamantly defend an unpopular release date rumor!

For me, the screen wasn't a revelation, but it was really great to feel the weight of it and stretch my fingers around it to see what one-handed operation was like.

I almost didn't want to touch it... y'know, saving myself for "the one." But I'm glad I got to touch one

Aware its a long shot but I am still hoping Best Buy goes with the 11th. Maybe it will be up in their system (as in IT forgot to push the date back for the selling part, since we know activation works)
and I can use 2 arguments:
1 'try scanning one through your system. If it rings up void the ticket, go back and activate and then scan it again and sell it to me. Lets just try for the sake of things.'
2 if 1 doesn't do it, knowing they don't get commission push them to try the process and promise to reward them upon a successful sale with 20-40 bucks.
