***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The service would be just fine but I work in a building in Chantilly. Tmobile and ATT don't work at all inside. Verizon and Sprint are the way to go but make full use of the 14 day return window to go to as many of the places that you normally frequent to get a good estimate. I have only used tT-mobile's 3g so not a clue about their 4g offerings. Hope this helped :)

I love VZW in this area. I heard the Dulles Corridor and At&t just do not play nice.

I have a positive Verizon's CSR experience to report. No mention of our much delayed GNex but it is is relevant.
If you remember a couple of days ago there was the report that some Verizon customers received coupons for $100 off the upgrade from a 3G phone to 4G and the coupons seemed to be in Illinois. I'm in Ohio and received no coupon.
I sent an email to customer support saying that I had heard Verizon was sending out these coupons and was wondering how I could go about getting one since I was interested in upgrading my OG Droid and 4G was just coming into my area.
This morning I got a call back, that I missed but their voice mail said they would email me instead. I logged into gmail on my computer (due to low memory my droid won't download gmail anymore) and there was a message. Unfortunately the message only said that they had missed me by phone and if my issue had not been solved to call in.
I called in to find out what had been the answer and found out that the $100 discount had been added to my account.
I don't know if that is plus the $30 discount I have because of the employer on my account or instead of, but I should be getting either $100 or $130 off the price of the phone provided it comes out before the discount expires (if I remember correctly it expires the 25th).
As always when dealing with customer service YMMV.

thank you for putting my thoughts into words. this is pretty much exactly how i've also felt the last couple hundred pages here.

edit: also bumping this so people can/will see it before it gets lost.

It's really simple. They want my money, they want me to sign a contract that locks me into them for 2 years, they want me as a customer for these reasons. If they want this from me I expect something from them. So do they owe me information about when this phone will release or even owe me the phone? No but if they expect to get these things from me then I expect those things from them. I am not a hostage to being their customer and nobody should expect me to be hostage to their whims.

In your opinion, do you think it is just a matter of time before the SGN gets the Facebook app? And thanks for your work Btw.

My guess would be about 30 seconds after you looked it up in the market. I don't think Google is ever going to preload it on the SGN.

I actually vaguely remember that post. edit: I think the thread here was aware of the update but it became old news rather quick. So if LTE was in fact the issue, and it has since been resolved, anyone willing to speculate that we could see a shotgun launch prior to Thursday?

If it is resolved, I feel we may see vzw.com sell a couple of days early, maybe announcement Monday for online availability Tuesday, in store availability Thursday. But of course, that is all speculation and guessing on my part. We've heard from a few different people that stores are starting to get e-mails from Verizon that say the 15th. So I think the earliest you will be able to walk into a brick and mortar corporate store or retail location and get a Nexus is the 15th. If they sell Tuesday or Wednesday online, you would get it delivered on Thursday.

I truly do think the 15th is Verizon's cut-off date for a number of reasons, bugs or no bugs. But whatever they are trying to fix has to be significant...you don't just pull a pre-scheduled launch at the very last minute over corporate reasons. A ton of man power and money went into specially shipping stock all over the place and training employees last week. There was a ton of rush on Verizon's part to sell on the 9th. That indicates to me that they were very serious about launching yesterday, and I think and LTE bug would be serious enough for them to hold it back. I don't think Google Wallet has anything to do with anything at this point...even if there was a hang up, Google and Verizon would have already settled that before the contract was signed for Verizon to carry the phone.

well, I just pulled out my OG droid and found it had turned itself off. power button did nothing. pulled battery and it bootlooped twice and then started up.
IT KNOWS....
I am getting desperate here and time is clearly running out.....:(

My world.

It also likes to make/receive phone calls on its own time.

They'd want a few days of solid testing (which is light on the weekends) to make sure that the bug they were having was fixed but also that the bug fix didn't break any other functionality. I wouldn't expect the device before Thursday.

But, yes, this Google Wallet stuff is out of control. Verizon hasn't blocked any non-tethering apps on the Android Market, even things like Google Navigation and Amazon MP3 and such that compete with VZW's own services. Google Wallet is the exception only because there probably is a major security concern and when it is handled it will be reenabled on the Market.

Also, don't go by whatever sales reps (even VZW corp store reps). They know as much as we do - literally. They search the interweb and Android forums/blogs for leaks and give the same reasons for delays and such as we do. Because Phandroid has a huge headline about Google Wallet being the cause of delay, RadioShack, Costco, Best Buy, and even some VZW corp store reps will tell you that Google Wallet is the reason for the delay because they don't know themselves.

The issue is clearly LTE-specific and is hopefully going to be fixed with this new OTA for a Thursday 12/15 release. This is the same issue, unfortunately, with every LTE phone Verizon has released so far and will continue being an issue until the OEMs have finally figured out how best to program the LTE radio firmware for their devices. We may not see a smooth VZW LTE phone launch for a few more months just because the tech is so new for so many manufacturers.

Good on ya! I may give this a try myself, though at this point I'll gladly pay the 269 + tax to purchase my phone. An extra 100 off would just be gravy.

Oh, wow. My bad. I thought it wasn't gonna work or some bologna. I must have misunderstood. So it will be no different than my TB.

ever get that thing when you press "call" and nothing happens, so you decide to reboot to see if it helps and as soon as you get the shutdown screen you see the call icon in the notification bar show up and it starts to ring but you cant stop the shutdown?

gotta love that

So after seeing the pics of the puppies taken by Anonymous (thank you) I think I can now say that I have no fear of the quality of the camera. 99% of the pictures I take with my phone now are of my dog, and those look good! :D

Been more or less lurking for the last couple days grazing over posts just waiting for something official. I've found it hard to really become engaged in this thread lately because of the tone its taken on. It is not my place to judge or stomp in with some self-righteous rant, but I do have two questions to pose (and I'll provide my own thoughts in an answer):

Why are some folks getting worked up over semantics?
These associates have a job to do and at this point in the year it can be a tough job (I've been there, many times over many years). I think many people are genuinely interested and frustrated with the situation. But still, I think others are pushing-- thinking they hold some trump card. Hoping they rant and rave enough to get their way or back an employee in to a corner where the outcome results to their liking, regardless of the real world implications or facts. Some people here are calling out VZW, BB and RS for deceptive and unethical behavior while at the same time trying to lure employees into selling a phone that is explicitly NOT for sale, which could result in drastic consequences for the employee (whether they're aware or not). How is that ethical?

Finally; why do some act as if they are entitled to all these answers, and that VZW OWES us something-- OWES us this phone?
We are getting worked up and angry over something we're not even supposed to know! We have gone behind their backs, solicited private information, put peoples jobs/livelihoods at risk to obtain said information that was NEVER meant for public consumption. And NOW we're mad? NOW we're blasting THEM for unethical behavior?

No, there is nothing wrong with a consumer who wishes to be informed. But lets face this fact: what we know, we were never supposed to know. With out this knowledge, we would never be where we are right now-- calling out employees for saying they don't have stock, (which who knows, maybe their shipments haven't arrived), or denying they have information on the phone even though we've seen screen shots of their systems.

Again, there is nothing wrong with a consumer who wishes to be informed and gathers information. But just remember how we've obtained this information and try and exercise more reasonable judgement when calling for peoples heads. We're all frustrated, but I for one, will continue to wait as patiently as I can... and hope my current phone doesn't kick the bucket before it lands.

i agree on the first point, but not completely on the second point. i don't think that VZW owes us everything we're asking for, but i think it owes us more than it's giving us.

we all pay VZW considerable amounts of money per month for mobile service. but, unlike other places, we can only use devices that are compatible with its network. because of what we are paying, i believe we have the right to demand current technology, so that we can get the most utilization of the network we are paying for.

this brings me to the GNex. VZW publicly announced it was passing on the GS2, because it was going to offer us "something better." then, Google and Sammy unveil the Nexus, and VZW publicly commits to bringing it to us. flashforward weeks and weeks later, and millions of people have the Nexus available, and Google says it is ready for the US. but we sit here waiting because VZW insists on a male-member measuring contest with Google before it will release.

normally, i would agree that VZW doesn't owe us. but, under these circumstances, i believe VZW owes us more than it's giving - e.g., why the phone it promised hasn't been released yet, what VZW is doing to bring us what it promised, when it is releasing what it promised, etc. instead, VZW has chosen the attitude that Marky Mark had toward the FBI in the Departed: treat 'em like mushrooms - keep 'em in the dark and feed them ____. this is my personal opinion, but i don't think that is an appropriate attitude to take with customers with whom you have written contracts.

So who's going to best buy with me tomorrow? If I show up alone asking for it they may just shrug me off, but maybe we show in a big group and ask for it they'll decide to sell us the phone. Now wouldn't that be awesome?

Oh, wow. My bad. I thought it wasn't gonna work or some bologna. I must have misunderstood. So it will be no different than my TB.

That's my understanding. El Goog is just really pushing G+ at the moment and they probably don't want fBook in any way competing with it out of the box. They wont block it in the market though. No way, no how.

yes

I am a horrible programmer, only class I ever took was Java 101 and I got a C, barely (My degree is in PoliSci :-) so take everything I say with a grain of salt. The android apk file type (the file type all programs use) is an extension of the .deb debian program file type. These files are actually a zip type format, if you take an apk and change the file type to .zip you can open them that way. In there is an xml file that tells the phone about the program including what versions it can be installed on. Chances are you could edit that file and have the facebook app run on 4.0 right now assuming one of the api's it calls on have not changed. That being said I'm sure they are waiting for market penetration before fully updating the app to any changes 4.0 will require for it to run smoothly and integrate with the phone at the lower levels that current app does

I live in paramus, hbu?

If the issue is LTE specific, then why have people testing the phone and the guy that got one early say that LTE has been and is working fine?

As for the network LTE being the problem (not your point, but while we're in the neighborhood), VZW just released another LTE device the other day, so there was no LTE hold-up there either.

I'm not sure that the facts support the on-going conclusions that the phone isn't working, whether it's LTE or anything else.
