CheckROM Revolution v4.0

Hi there, i was wondering if anyone could help. I'm having issues installing new themes on my SG2 from the Kitchen app.

They seem to install ok but the included bootup animation plays over the top of the custom one i have, then i get a strange process error and my phone gets stuck in a loop.

I'm currently on checkrom 2.0, siyah 2.3.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm getting a little trouble trying to install this ICS theme properly. I was getting FC's on the phone/contacts app (anroid.process.acore), So due to the fact I'm using Criskelo 3D Dialer, I thought I would download the Samsung Stock Dialer first, then flash the ICS theme.

However, when I try to download the Samsung Stock Dialer from the kitchen I get the following error:
Packages selected: 1
Packages in sd card: 0
Download completed: -1
Download failed: 1

I tried a Stock Dialer I downloaded previously in DlevRom, which seemed to install (no firmware version check, and took an age to boot) but it made no difference to the dialer screen itself

Edit:
Ok, I've created and installed a flashable zip using the samsung dialer in the KK5 ROM.
no help from XDA as per usual!!! :( If you want something doing, do it yourself! :)
Just trying out that ICS theme again now....

SUCCESS!
Now to put blue circle battery over this, and to decide on if I actually like this theme or not!!! :)

I think i found what the issue was, i downloaded checkrom v4.0, which took me back to the stock kernel i believe. Then i was able to download and apply the ICS theme.

Not sure if this was the solution but it worked for me. I'm still learning so if anyone could explain why this happend it would be much appreciated!

installed 4.0 last night, first custom rom I ever used. totally brilliant is all I can say. no crashes, no force closes (yet!). love the themes esp ICS and shade of dusk.

may i get the instructions please..

All the instructions, downloads, FAQ's and "How To" videos are contained in posts #1, #2 and #3, here:-

[ROM][XWKK5][2.3.6] CheckROM RevoHD™ V4 with Bravia Engine It's a masterpiece! - xda-developers

Please ensure that you read them through carefully and take your time.

They are self explanatory and very easy to follow. :D

It might also be a good idea to read this thread through as it offers some helpful hints and tips.

I don't think the bravia engine is much to brag about. It's a slight difference, nothing to jump up and down about.

When you do a full wipe, how many times do you wipe? As daft as it sounds, and they say the same thing in the original thread, you need to do it twice to make sure. I never have any trace left...that I can tell...certainly no wallpapers or settings etc when I do this:

Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats

Maybe it could work for you to get a properly clean installation?
I'm also experienceing some drainage since I updated to this rom (no-wipe), so no I'm thinking of wiping it and then installing this rom. I'm rather new to my SGS2, so not too familiar yet with all it's options and possibilities. Could anyone tell/explain (or give me a link) how to Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvik-Cache?

You need to be rooted to do so.
If you are not, then here is the best guide

Once rooted you will have CWM recovery installed. This is a boot loadable program that is invoked when the device is switched off and you hold down VOL-UP+HOME+POWER all at once, and keep pressed until something shows on screen, then release all 3 buttons. It will then go into the CWM Recovery menu
Its follow your nose from there.
btw, wipe dalvik cache is under "Advanced"

That simple? Should have 'looked there' myself :D I've used CWM to install this rom, but never bothered to look any further than my nose is long (dutch expression ;))

Thnx!

I notice GadgetCheck has taken the reference to the Bravia driver out of the ChekROM XDA thread, and also the specific XDA Bravia thread for it has been closed.
I notice its still available to download via the Kitchen (at the moment) and I suspect it shall be taken off quite soon.

Either there was a software copyright infringement issue as our good Lord Slug suggested or perhaps _thalamus on the last page of that thread touched a nerve?

yup. spoke too soon. last thing i installed from the kitchen was the miui dialler mod. it worked fine but must have buggered up somewhere when i rebooted.

so went down the pub, had a few pints, tried to phone fer a vindaloo and the phone app constantly gives me a force close when i try to dial a number. basically turned my S2 into a Samsung iPod Touch. reinstalling the stock dialler didn't fix it for some reason. had to restore from a backup. vindaloo was nice at the end tho :)

I have been using this ROM for a couple of days , today i went to contacts (after using KitchenPRO ) and got " The process android.process acore has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.

any ideas how to get my contacts back, I cant call or text anyone

this happened to me (as in my last post). i fixed it with a restore via cwm with a backup, but i've read of a couple of fixes.

(1) install the theme restore package from kitchen pro

or

(2) unzip your original checkrom firmware v4 download on your pc, look in the apps folder for contacts.apk and copy it over to the system>app folder in your s2 via root explorer or similar software, and reboot. you might have to copy over phone.apk & phone.util.apk if just applying the contacts.apk doesn't work.

I'm somewhat confused how the OP expects this to work when there is no swiqi service in AOSP and clearly that service is needed for the Bravia engine to work, hence the build.prop lines.

Maybe it's magic...or more likely it's just a load of garbage.

This doesn't work and will not work without certain SE proprietary code.

The original 'port' was to another SE device (XPERIA X10) running stock 2.3.3 ROM which was shipped with Bravia engine support disabled, but which could be easily enabled with this change.

On non SE devices or SE devices running AOSP, there is no Bravia engine support to enable, so this will not work. Period.

It's quite scary the junk that people will flash on here without investigating it first...

Gotta say though, this thread has made me chuckle.

GadgetCheck himself said here that the services required to make it work are absent in the Samsung system.

On a different note, GadgetCheck hinted that beta testing for the new Checkrom RevoHD may be as early as next weekend!

as sydney99 said, it was not working before and i've explained why here -> is Sony Bravia Engine really working with SGS2 and other Android devices? - ykkfive

on the other hand, i started it over again and found some good news here --> some good news for Sony Bravia Engine and Samsung Galaxy S2 - ykkfive
