Nkt do you think your version of 2.1 will be will be the final?

It would seem that the only thing we know for certain on the timing of the release of 2.1 is that no one knows for certain the timing of the release.![]()
).
...and that those who do truly know (one would hope that there is someone who really knows) seem to not care about us who don't.

That's an interesting thing to think about.
1. the notion that there are people who "know"
2. that those people are withholding their knowledge from those of us who do not know (the users)
Number 1 may not be exactly true. Sometimes there are people all working together on a project, each with their own specialty in that project that they know about. But they don't know about the other aspects of the project enough to be able to project a release date.
Number 2 would be rendered not relevant if Number 1 is the case with the 2.1 update for our Eris devices.
If, though, there are people, or a person, who knows right when the release is to be made, they may be under company promise or oath to remain silent on the issue until a certain time. I doubt if this is the case as I believe the project is spread out among many developers far flung from one another and that their data needs to be brought together in concert with other factors and then released at a time with as few flaws as is humanly possible.

NKT - have you noticed any reduction in lag on the phone screen, like when making a call and hitting the end button?
You assume the knowledge should lie with the developers
Not at all.
I don't think I'm assuming anything. What I'm doing is speculating on the interesting notion that wmple exressed ("those who do truly know seem to not care about us who don't").
The speculations all orbit the central idea that there are those who "know," and those speculations include: developers who are not knowledgeable beyond their specific areas of work in the project, as well as those who, as you point out, could have a target date, or at least range of dates, in mind but who won't/can't share that (yet?) with the public at large.
I don't challenge any of those notions because, like you, I know nothing of Eris software development, marketing or management.
Hey guys! decided to quit lurking in the sewers and join the party in the sunlight--- which appears to be lacking at the moment *sigh*
But anyhoo, Frisco I find it difficult to believe at this late date that Verizon does not at least have a project deadline in place that they could give a reasonable ball park date. I am not suggesting that they come out and say "The holy grail will appear on February 23rd, at 9pm CST" But they could at this point say:
" We have received the update from HTC. Testing is on-going and looking good. Barring any major issues we expect OTA updates to begin in the next two weeks."
No commitment, no set date to have people whine if they miss. Just a reasonable statement of progress toward a goal.

Wasn't February 22nd one of the prophesied days of deliverance?
That's today!!!![]()

Hi GoenMo. Glad you stopped lurking and joined us, just don't bring up sunlight (touchy subject)
Technically Verizon has given us a time frame. They said in the beginning that we would see 2.X by the end of the first quarter. Fortunately, that has not changed. There have been rumors of things drifting over into the beginning of quarter 2, but nothing from Verizon on this. You also have to keep in mind that companies don't like to give out real dates even real time frames most of the time. The only thing this ever does is cause problems. I was actually a little surprised that they ever said Q1 and not first half of the year.
As we now know, 2.1 is in the testing phases at VZW right now. To me, this is a good sign. However, for good or for bad, Verizon does have a history of long test periods. I prefer it, but others just want things faster. IMHO, a longer test period means less bugs for us....most of the time.
Thank you OTD. Nice to be here.
What I have never understood is the need for all this testing to begin with. The OS of the phone has very little to do with the network I would think, beyond the protocols used to connect to it. Any CMDA phone has the protocols built in to connect to the Verizon network, right? HTC has already done the testing during the development stage to determine that 2.1 is stable on the Eris before they sent it to Verizon. They built the phone, and they wrote the ROM for it. They should know if it is stable or not. How does a few new bells and whistles on the UI affect the netowrk? My computer does not need extensive testing by my internet service provider whenever i upgrade the OS. As long as it has a LAN connector or a wireless adapter, it will work. please someone explain what Verizon is testing.

Anyone who has owned a BlackBerry and loaded pre release/leaked versions of an OS knows about this.
Hello! I too have finally decided to stop lurking in the shadows and come out to play. It is my understanding now (after reading 26 pages of this thread, and damn do my eyes hurt) that people are now recieving test updates for 2.1, and that the rest of the Eris population should start receiving the actual update itself within the next 2 to 3 weeks?
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I'm very interested in seeing other's thoughts and feelings about the time frame and the potential that 2.1 has.
yup, i just loaded the latest hybrid os, .419/.467 (i think) to my wifes storm 1 last night....lol

I think that what most here seem not to understand is that anyone who knows the release date has signed an NDA. It's not that they don't care about you, the Eris forum geek, (though they probably don't) it's that they'd be fired if they came on here and scratched your itch.
98% of Eris owners don't know, care, or understand what 2.1 is. Vzw knows this, and they definitely don't give a shit about phone geeks.
