Root Guide to Rooting Without a Computer

I tried to downloadd the file from my fone but it wont let me .. Lg optimus v.
How do I download them im new to all of this sorry

i had a problem downloading too. till i got skyfire browser from the market. works great. can be a little slow with scrolling but otherwise its good

Newb question here. I downloaded all the stuff to sd card, used adrozip to extract files to sd card and clicked on Gingerbreak install. It then tries to pull up picture gallery and just sits there with a black screen. What am I doing wrong? Lg Optimus v 2.2.1.

Sounds like your phone thinks Gingerbreak is a photo...odd. Have you enabled installing non market apps? If not, from your home screen, go menu-settings-applications-check the "unknown sources" box, then try again.

Try long pressing on Gingerbreak from androzip, see if you can pull up the properties. Specifically the permissions. What does it say?

Nevermind. Newb screw up I was trying to open/install the individual files not the gingerbreak file itself as a whole.

Maybe a stupid question here, but how will this affect the apps I have on my primary sd car? I'm using the 2gb that came with the phone to do the Gingerbreak install. My primary is a 16gb card.

You won't affect any files on the 16GB card.
I have an 8GB and had to use the stock 2GB to run the exploit.
When it finally rooted my phone after several attempts(this is normal) I put the 8GB card back in with no problems what so ever. That was 5 months ago, still no problem.

As botherswing points out, the .apk shouldn't be zipped. Just quick touch the .apk and a pop up window will appear. Select install. Make sure to move the .apk to the root of the sd card before installing.

Entered commands in Terminal emulator exactly as specified in OP and keep getting " cannot create /system/bin/flash_image: read-only file system

What do you get when you type in: su
After you hit the return key you should get a #
If you get a $ your not rooted

Did you install Busybox yet? Did you update the superuser app and the su binary?
Ignore my pm. Didn't know you got a #.

I've got to help another member as well, so I'll have to bounce back and forth. Be patient.
