things you dislike about the Desire

For me:

1) sound quality of ringtones etc - lacks bass and lower midrange compared to an iPhone for example

2) internal memory

The metal casing scratches and dents quite easily if dropped.
fixed by toughcase

the buttons lose responsiveness over time

i have this irritating problem where the menu key isnt always recognised and the back key sometimes presses twice or 3 times when i only click it once. very annoying

I was too late with my case. After while, i decided no longer to use it too. I just prefer it naked :)

I've just remebered another one... when you are texting and it shoots up to the first text of about 300 and you have to scroll all the way back down again (or tilt it)

1) Internal memory issue

2) Every time I'm out of signal for more than a few minutes it brings up a notification saying it's lost my timezone and I have to re-select GMT/BST. I get barely any signal where I work so I have to do this most days. Not a major issue but it is annoying.

3) The camera is pitiful. Video recorder is no better. I've noticed recently that a lot of videos I record still freeze for a split second too.

4) Speaker is pretty awful.

5) Listing apps under 'manage applications' takes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages

I think the camera is pretty good.

Slow applications list : what software version are you running?

You really need to take the plastic camera cover off the back cover. The difference is so incredible its not funny, and I dont seem to get dirt or anything inside.

Things I dislike are the 2 from op and I also felt it looked dated about 3 months after I got it in mid-2010. If i could take the same insides, and put it in a shell that looked half-stylish it would please me even more.

That does make a difference but the camera is still crap. I dont care though, I rarely use it.

i know about this trick, the camera is still bad. this is mainly because of the ccd in it

1. Lack of internal memory.
2. Physical buttons failing.

Apart from that it's a great phone.

Much the same as others. A better loudspeaker (for ringtones and speakerphone) would probably be the first thing I'd change. Better camera would be good, but I also don't use it much (and have literally never used the video camera, even to test it).

My buttons are still holding up at the moment, and storage etc are soluble if you're prepared to fiddle a little ;)

My main gripe is the poor level of the ringtone. It's barely audible outdoors in a rather busy area. I haven't done too much research into it so I may be overlooking a simple fix.

The button issue is solvable too

well not really, i tried that app and while it makes the device work properly its annoying.

point is that it shouldnt happen and the fact the the phone is well looked after and pressed gentally it not something i would expect from a phone considering all my old phones with hardware buttons still have the hw buttons working.

its a common issue too

Doesn't annoy me, quite the opposite. I was thinking of a new phone before finding that app :)

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I haven't had a single problem with my desire thus far.

It is true however, that the sound quality of the speaker leaves a lot to be desired(no pun intended).
