5.10.605.9 Update

Still nothing. Tried checkin a few times followed by Check New. A little strange, but from what I've been reading the update was not too hot anyway.

Not sure who said that. This update has been solid. Fixed a few minor bugs, improved reception marginally, and has yet to create any new bugs that I have seen.

That's good news. I have seen a few battery issues, and people posting that reception is not improved. Hopefully those issues are outliers. Looking forward to the update.

personally as far as the reception goes....... I didnt notice much difference in signal........ however it was much slower on the 3G ... at least IMO........ I just flashed back to an older radio and am enjoying great 3G speeds again....... was at a crawl with the new radio.......... of course when it comes to radios every user experience is gonna be different...... there are a lot of variables that determine signal

Still nothing for me. I've done all of the suggested things to try and prompt a download (Check New; Check In). Nothing. Anyone else?

Did you check your version to be sure you didn't get it? I ask because my wife never got the notification either and check for new never showed any updates available. She checked her version and it showed 5.10.605.9. The only thing we can think of is it updated overnight one day.

Nope. Still on 4.08.605.3. I thought that could be the case, but I still show 4 bars, not 5. Very strange.

Your last act of desperation is the factory reset...

That could trigger it...

I don't know for sure, it might or might not...

My first Dinc2 would not show the gingerbread update when I was on 2.2. Verizon/hTC had to send me a brand new one with gingerbread already on it, I didn't try a factory reset because they offered to send me a new one with the update on it... Sooooo...

Thanks. I'd rather not do a factory reset, mainly because it is a pain. I will try calling Verizon today and see what they have to say. Thanks.

Factory resets a are just something we have to go through on Android...

Once you do like 2 of them, you'll be ready to pull the trigger a the drop of a hat.

They might send you a yucky refurb with it's own new set of problems...it's a gamble...

I would try factory resetting, you can save all your contacts to your google account or sd card and all your apps too. Factory resetting does not delete the sd card storage.
That's a different trigger called reformatting.

VZW won't do anything until you've done a factory reset. You might as well do it now. Besides, if they send you a new phone, it'll be the same work to set up as yours post reset.

Unless you want to forego the update, I see no reason not to reset.

This is true. When my wife's phone stopped charging she took it into a Verizon store. The first thing they did after trying their charger was factory reset.

A friend of mine took her Sprint android phone in to the store because she was having problems. They did a factory reset without asking her if she knew her gmail address and password. Oops!

Which is exactly why I read and participate in communities like this one. So I can learn enough over time to be able to handle most issues on my own. That way if it gets more screwed up, I have no one to blame but myself.

Also the same reason I fix my own truck and my wife's car. The one time I let someone else do it they leave out the fill plug on my differential. A month later and 3 states away, the rear end locks up while going 70mph down the road.
Not awesome.

At least it was the rear end. I had a reman front drive axle freeze up on my '84 Subaru. On the I-5 south of Woodburn, OR. Can you say bwbwbwbw? It was shaking so hard that I couldn't see my mirrors. It was the seventh axle I had put in that car. After that I put two factory axles in it.

I've tried factory resets and everything else to try to get this update to come through....it just won't. I'm stuck on 4.08.605.3. When I try to check for updates, I get the "Service Unavailable" message. Does ANYONE have any suggestions????

Looks like it is time to call Verizon. I had a phone that did this from 2.2 to the gingerbread update. I called Verizon and told them they let me talk to hTC and they ended up having to send me a new one with 2.3.3 already on it, 5 mins after I activated that one it updated to 2.3.4.

Since factory resetting is not working and if you want the update and are not planning rooting, looks like it is time to talk to big red...
