Hello,
I just rooted my Htc Evo 4g running cm7 and tiamat kernel.

My phone will shut down and restart up from time to time 
, is anyone else experiencing this problem? In addition, my signal keeps going down to 1x and when i have my Wi-Fi turned on the signal I get is real bad i only get 1 to 2 bars of signal even if I stand next to the router.

First when you flashed the kernel did you wipe dalvic and cache? Also Rooting questions will get answered quicker by placing your questions for Rooted phones in there. I would suggest getting to know the All Things Root Section of this site. The guys are alway eager to help noobs out.
what tiamat version do you have? most of us swear by 3.3.7

i moved your thread to the rooting section.
try a newer version of the kernel.
no kernel do not touch the radios. have you tried to update your prl and profile? you need to be on a sense rom to do that. well tiamat worked for me. maybe try the latest version 4.1. i think that a lot here have better success with 3.3.5.
also you can go to the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html. scroll down to the kernel section. you can try one of the aosp kernels listed there. with kernels it is hard to recommend one as the will all react differently on different phones. so the best way is try them out. just give them a few days to settle in before moving on.

We need more info....what is your recovery and how did you install or flash the ROM? Did you use ROM manager?
ok so this is my story about the reboot issue.
i was on cm7 for about a week or so when my phone would automatically reboot. it start out as random events and not vary often. it then seem to get progressively worse as time went by. i noticed that it would start doing it when i use navigation or play angry bird or pandora and other apps that uses a lot power and resources. my phone would get hot as well. it finally got to a point where it was just too much so i tried another rom and the same thing happened. so my next step was to try it on a stock rooted rom with same results. so i then unrooted my phone to see if the same thing happened which it did. i then took the phone in and was able to get the tech to see the reboot issue i was having so he gave me a refurbished evo. they had to order it in, but in a few days i had a refurb and went back to cm7 with no issues after that.
now i'm not saying that cm7 started this issue. but to try other roms and see if you can get the same results. if so then you might have a hardware issue and not a software issue. and hopefully you have insurance on it and can get it replaced or fixed. you do need to unroot it though if you are going to take it in.

I had the same issue. I don't remember when it started, but I ran all different kinds of roms at the time. When I took it back to sprint, they deemed it a "known issue" and it didn't cost anything to get a new phone.
well you will have to play with settings some. if you are using setcpu then i would not use any profiles and only use smartass or interactive x as your governor. my phone i was able to underclock it to 224 and overclock to 1190. but your phone might not like these settings. whatever you do make sure that you keep the set on boot box unchecked. once you know your phone is stable at your settings then you can check it.
it will depend on what you are looking for. i would start out with mikg3.0

Dont check the set at boot box.
Set your setting and play around with the phone to make sure your not restarting. Then once yuo know its safe hit check at boot.
I'd suggest having a max of 1113. Thats a pretty safe max for most people.
Radio signal is COMPLETELY independent of ROMS.

ok so all custom roms now days display a much truer signal strength then what the stock rom would give you. with stock it is programmed to show that you have 3g no matter what signal it is. on custom roms the signal strength will also show you 1x as well as 3g. so you might be getting the same signal strength but these custom roms are just showing you what you are actually getting.
so have you tried out the latest radios? you can get it in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html.
and i would try tommy's rom if you have not already.
i have not tried tommys rom, but i will give it a try. the only problem i have is even if iam standing next to my routor with wi-fi on i will onlt have 1 bar. i have tried different radio links but i get the same thing and what is 1x i do get that alot. can you recommend one a radio link and if thats what true signal i really get then so be it.
ok as far as wifi goes you might want to try a custom kernel if you have not yet. most custom kernels have support for wireless n. it should help out with that. try the freedom kernel and start out with the agressive universal kernel. also you might want to try setcpu to help set how the cpu will scale your phone.

and the 1x is just your signal strength. it is actually a technology that is 1/10 the speed if evdo which is also an internet highspeed technology.
