Root Rooted Evo 4g in August.....and now....

Hello all, Ive been lurking on this site for a while now and ive ...well im not really sure.

I rooted my evo 4g back in august with MIUI. At first it was cool, as i have been using it, i run into more and more problems or little quirks that are really inconvenient. At first, the Gmail app wasn't compatible, no problem, i switched to K-9 Mail. Then the Sprint voicemail wasn't compatible, again no problem, i started to use google voice.
At this point, im done with taking alternate routes. That being said, the evo worked great for a while. Now im seeing that i am not receiving phone calls....only a voice mail, also my texts are being received like 4 days after i send them...now wtf..!!

The front camera doesnt work, i dont have 4g (from the start, which i knew of) the system is buggy and im just ready to try a new rom all together,

Im no expert and sometimes i get confused with what i need to get or when/how to flash multiple things and so on. Can someone give me a hand and recommend a better rom or ask me to tell you what versions i am running so i can get a more reliable device??? Thanks a bunch!!!!

Well, sounds like it's time to make a nandroid and flash a new rom. ;)

The folks over in the Evo 4G ATR section that you linked can help you for sure. I'll move this thread over for you and we'll get started getting you updated!! :)
 
I agree with Granite, sounds like you should flash a new ROM.

Like most here, I'd recommend MikG 3.0 if you are looking for fast and super stable with some fun tweaks mixed in. You can be sure you won't have to just through any of the hoops you do with AOSP or MIUI with this rom (well, as long as you follow this wiping and flashing guide).

But if you really want to stick with MIUI, the last stable build was the 12.9 one. (Unfortunately the guy who usually ports MIUI over for us seems to have gone on extended vacation or something, so there isn't a ton of support right now... you can read through the last 10-20 pages of the xda thread to see what people are doing to help each other keep it going for now).

I would also suggest you get the amon ra recovery, if you don't have it already, and learn to wipe and then make a nand backup and then flash that Mikg 3.0 that was suggested to you.

A nandroid is a backup of your current system; basically an exact image of your setup now (kind of like a restore point in windows).

Since it's been awhile, you might want to take a few minutes and read through this post here, to make sure you're comfortable going forward -- it will have all the info you need to understand nandroids, what a "recovery" like amon ra is, etc: Rooting For Dummies Guide

And then if you have questions, just come here and ask!

Lets see if this makes sense, I can backup my current setup. on the boot screen it says

Revolutionary
supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF

>then i go to recovery and it says

Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4

thats where i do my backup/restore

Is that a nand? Or has one been completed?
 
Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 is your current recovery that you got when you rooted. we like to suggest using the amon ra as it seems to be more reliable.

I do not even remember how to use cw, either, but you can do the same in it as well. Granite used it for the longest!
 
I did use Clockwork mod for almost a year, worked for me, but I've since switched to amon-ra.

I'll also recommend you use this recovery. ;)

like the guys posted above check out the section in the root guide for switching recoveries, and download the file linked there.
Folow the steps to load the recovery.

Just make sure you have the file named correctly: PC36IMG.zip

Depending on which version of windows you are using, it's easy to make it .zip.zip, because windows has a nasty habit of hiding extensions. Just make sure it's named correctly, and your bootloader will find it and flash it.
