Root Rooted Evo 4g in August.....and now....

OK MikG has been flashed and the phone booted up. I think there may be a problem though, I am getting bombarded with force closes..

android.process.acore has stopped upexpectedly

Whats up?

You didnt do a full wipe.

Wipe everything except for SD card

Thats what it sounds like to me.

Just in case though, if it gets screwey again, delete the old rom file and redownload it. Then try a complete wipe and flash the new rom file. Just in case it's a bad download.

ok wiped and it boots nicely. Still a problem though. The screen goes black at random times. the 4 buttons on the bottom of the phone are lit and i just hit the back arrow. What is causing this?

awesome thanks dudes. It seems to be working great now. I didnt do the caulkin zip. Is that optional? So now even after reading all these guides, is a Kernel necessary? If so what does it do and what one is the best for the rom i used?

Calkulin zip file is optional yes but recommended. You don't have to flash a kernel but you certainly can and I always do. I would go with freedom or anthrax.

Just go into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache and flash the kernel. No data wipe is necessary

The wipe zips are a good idea to use. Either the one Mizz linked or the SuperWipe script, which I believe includes Caulkins

As far as kernels go, I'm with Mizz. Etiher lithids aggressive freedom (universal) or Anthrax v9. If you need Anthrax.... that can be arranged

Rats.... My Gmail app wont send outgoing emails anymore. Same thing last time when I Rooted. It worked for a few days but now....no dice

That is too weird...
I have had it get stuck sending on me before but that always worked for me. I am at my wits end there.

let me know if you get it straightened out, what you did, ok? Good luck!

I had suggested that, as well as just clearing the application's cache, itself.

He said it didn't work. :o

My last thought would be to wipe cache and dalvik cache and flash the rom back over itself. I think I would delete the app first, again, before I tried it.

that would wipe out any custom kernel. I am not sure about any mods or themes, since I don't mess with them much. Probably would wipe them out too? But then, it may be a custom kernel or mod holding it up, for all I know?

Really, I like the stock kernel just fine with 3.0. could always make a nand beforehand, as well.

Then I would reinstall gmail and see if it worked.

Have you tried to create a new account under google and see if that works? If need to use RootExplorer and find the gmail.apk file I think its in data / apps but if not then in System/Apps. Longtap and from the menu choose delete. Then go and download the latest Gapps and extract the Gmail out of it and install it from RootExplorer or which ever Filemanager you use.
