Help File from PC to GNexus

macprv

Android Enthusiast
Ok so i did my research and I know this is a common problem and i know there are many possible fixes but i just cannot transfer files from my PC to my galaxy nexus (GSM European Version GT-I9250).

1-Ive tried the "drag and drop the file on the nexus/root icon" method
2-Ive tried opening the WMP before the transfer
3-Ive tried installing the verizon USB drivers
4-Ive tried going to the device manager and uninstalling/updating the drivers
5-Ive tried deleting/replacing the pics folder on the device
6-Ive tried using the original/and different USB cable

What else is there to do??... Samsung UK does not have the drivers for their model (WTF samsung) on their website, so i have no idea where i could possible get them.

Any other suggestions?

Im using a windows XP PC by the way, and Gnexus is stock 4.0.2
thanks

Try Wifi File Explorer. If you're on the same wifi network as your computer, you can swap files between them with no trouble.

airdroid is ok but i find it to be slow when transferring many files or large files.. i would prefer to use the USB cable in those occasions :o

Droid Explorer works great for me; it uses adb (which you can either have preinstalled, or it will download all the adb stuff it needs during installation, iirc). This even worked when my drivers were all outa whack... I can't believe I don't see plugs for this program more often... it's awesome. I haven't speedtested though to see what is faster, MTP vs ADB. I suspect ADB from command line will be fastest.

I'm on windows xp too, and I had huge issues getting everything to work. Finally plugging in the phone to usb and opening windows update did the trick, as microsoft saw that I needed some hardware drivers.

I am (maybe) about to get this phone, I am wondering with a micro sd card if you can simply just take the card out and load it directly on a computer, then insert the card back into the phone and your files are there?

I'm guessing the transfer issue is for video files, for music files particularly (mp3/wav) - is it as simple as just plugging a usb cable into the phone and dragging and dropping them?

i would use DROPBOX... thats what i use for all my files. so much easier... click the link in my Sig

I've never tried MyPhoneExplorer, I'll have to git it a go. DroidExplorer works great for me though. And I find MTP to work fine as well. I haven't found a WiFi file transfer app that I like yet... I really like drag and drop. Dropbox is cool, but really slow, however it is perfect for sharing among multiple devices.

dropbox is only as slow as your internet connection, and its really nice to move files to your phone if you are having trouble with the usb debugging

There's no SD card slot on this phone...

When I choose PTP my pc will recognize it and an icon appears on the 'my computer' screen, a camera icon that says Galaxy Nexus (where I can get to the folders), and a box also opens up asking me what to with the pics. But when I choose MTP, my comp makes that same sound and says on the bottom tray "found device etc.', but no icon shows up, and I never get pop-up box that asks me what Windows should do.

Do you think I need to update drivers on my pc? maybe it's too old, but it is XP. My IT guy at work has the S2, he mentioned something about my pc having to be 'young' enough to be able to transfer... thinking of getting wifi explorer, maybe it'll help.

When I do use drag/drop, I don't use any special mode. I always keep USB debugging enabled but that's it. Then when plugged into the PC, use windows explorer and look for the drive labeled galaxy nexus. Click on it to reveal contents, then drag/drop files into an open area which causes them to end up on the "SD card". Have you guys having problems tried that route? If so, go to device manager and force install the USB recognition driver for the gnex. Then reboot the PC with the phone still plugged in and try again to move files.

I installed WiFi file explorer after seeing your post yesterday. Strangely my nexus rebooted twice after that. Yesterday night it rebooted while browsing this site.
Mine rarely rebooted by itself before installing it. Not sure if that's just coincidence, but I just removed it anyway.

Should I keep debugging enabled on my phone, or should I uncheck it? I'm going to try the force install, see if it'll work this way.

Haven't tried with GN but with previous phones if I didn't want to use USB I would do bluetooth transfer.

I know I had issues connecting when I was unlocking and rooting my phone. The Samsung drivers didn't work for crap. The rooting forums all recommended installing PDAnet as the drivers for that program were the only ones that seemed to work for everyone.

PdaNet -- USB Tether/Bluetooth DUN for Android

I suggest installing PDAnet on your PC. Once that is done, plug in your GN and your computer should recognize it and install the drivers and all should be good in the hood.

Once the drivers are installed, you can uninstall PDAnet if you don't want it...the drivers will remain.

I found that I had to have USB Debugging off to transfer files.

I'd just like to draw attention to this since the OP is using XP...

JUST on XP I've run into this a BUNCH, turn off USB debug at it works perfect...

Vista and win7 don't seem to have this issue.
