More File Sharing Sites Affected!!

Wow!!!
I knew it was going to get nasty, but I didn't think it would happen so quickly.
All the decent file sharing hosts have now been affect in some way from this fiasco.
 
On a completely 100% unrelated note, Anonymous took down a boat load of sites (MPAA, RIAA, DOJ, and more), and got into and deleted CBS.com. Again, unrelated.

And we thought SOPA was gonna disrupt the Internets --- set phasers to stun folks!
 
This is awful! Not just for the basic freedoms; THE ROMS ARE GETTING DELETED TOO!
On a serious note, these things are getting dangerous- the more the government deletes or shuts down or scares out of business, the angrier the hackivists get. The angrier the hacktivists get, the more legitimate sites they attack. The more sites they attack, the more the government deletes or shuts down!
Neither side is right, but their little fight could lead to censorship like what is seen in China...
 
I don't know if it will lead to that big of a censorship, I mean look at all the legitimate sites that stood up to SOPA (google, wired, wikipeida, et. al )... image what would happen if they went with full censorship like Iran or China... sites would just stop. Even our half dumb government would see how bad that would get.

And they would only be hitting the Hive with a stick if you ask me... bound to get stung.

Start tossing people in jail, wholesale and that might send a message. At least that is what I propose in my bill: SOPA 2.5

Where is Tail-gunner Joe when we need him most. He can turn from ferreting out communists to finding stolen IP.
 
whats really funny is the companies who are being indirectly effected by this....... the latest and greatest craze for the last couple of years with major cellphone/computer companies has been advertising "the cloud"....... thats the direction the entire IT industry is headed........ were all going to "the cloud"...... newsflash....... what do you think "the cloud" is??? they just burst "the cloud" and its raining..... Im guessing companies like Apple/HP/etc are sweating more than the pirates over this one.... they have more to lose than the ones whining about piracy

Dropbox is not a file sharing service. It is for cloud storage. I do know that Dropbox monitors their customer's activities for questionable activity and if you can explain why something curious is happening with your account, you will not have a problem.

There was a way to use Dropbox to download files from other people's Dropbox, but that hole was closed. It involved creating tiny files and muddling around with hash marks, but that hole is long closed.

yes ..... the same way all these other services are for "cloud storage"..... I can link you to 'files' on my dropbox account just like I can on a megaupload account......... the only difference being in the advertising

Not at all. You cannot access my Dropbox unless I give you permission and that is not going to happen. I keep some .exe files in my Dropbox but you cannot access them and I do not promote them.

It will only become a problem if someone makes IP stored in their Dropbox widely available to others with a link and you will be stopped from doing this because Dropbox cares about this sort of activity. As soon as they suspect something bad is going on, your account will be closed until you can prove your use is legitimate.

These sites that are being closed down or opting to do so before they are caught are largely used to distribute vast amounts of illegal stuff. People know these sites are where you go for free downloads.

Never compare Dropbox to Megaupload and the rest because they are demonstrably different. You can break the law with Dropbox just like you can with these file sharing services, yes indeed you can, no argument.

Nobody is fooling anyone here . . . these sites that are closed down were created for one reason: to distribute stolen property!

I don't think they were created to distribute stolen property, it's more so people/member(paid or free) exploiting the host, & uploading stolen property.
Is it the hosts fault for not filtering, or monitoring what their users/members are doing.
 
Dropbox is blocked in China, because people were using it to share politically sensitive materials with others. Same with the other file sharing services, like Rapidshare etc.
 
I'll just stick with private torrent trackers. As for filesharing sites, I hope mediafire and hulkshare survive cause they're the best music sources!

That's what I use for most of my movies and music downloads. As I posted earlier just about all the sharing sites are blocked here, using a proxy to download from them can be painfully slow.

Of course it is the host's fault. Some site become too big to manage so abuse happens.

Now, all we need is for people that consume the illegal material to be fined or called on the carpet. We do not need to get them all; a few dozen weekly reports of this person or that person being arrested and/or fined until they break and world will start to spread.
