Root [ROM][WIP]CM7 Port for Vortex VS660

I'm working on a new build, I'll post it some time this week.

Hazzah! I went back to the 12/2 release since the speaker phone workaround works well, and I don't normally have screen rotation enabled for it to be a problem. Even some camera apps (barcode scanner, google goggles, pano, etc) that had buggy displays actually work fine now. Hope to see more progress!

I hate to say it, but I do build for the Optimus V...It's the phone I own!
The phones may have the same name, but they do have different parts.

Thanks bob, i just thought since i can run the optimus v build on my vortex fully aside from connecting to verizon that the solution would be simple. Will the accelerometer and mic be fixed in this next release? I started a youtube channel about hacking the vortex after discovering this forum and rom, i have a full walk-tru of howto install it, (figured i would try to contribute some how) so if any noobs ask for how to's and such, just check out the link in my signature that I'll be updating soon.

Thanks to all for their help and comments here. Has provided some very educational reading for me.

I have the 12/2 version installed and as far as I know all is well but I was not able to download the NAND backup everyone is talking about...

I am commenting because I am hoping someone else or maybe Geoffrey could upload another copy of his NAND backup because as most of you probably know Megaupload is no longer online and that's where geoffrey was hosting that file.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! :)

Screen animations do not work on that build though. You need to turn them off.

Thank you very much for the linkage, Kappa!

Wiped everything again (a couple times), installed the 11/09-BZHome release, GINM's kernel, the camera fix, and disabled screen on/off animations and everything seems to be working great. Rotation works, camera works, people seem to be able to hear me fine and it's running stable at 787 smartass (806 performance would flake at random) maybe I could do 806 smartass... dunno, I just know I am really happy so far. I have been running LightingC for a long time and this is definitely a step up.

Only issue I have really noticed so far is that when screen is OFF: If I press anything other than the power button to light up the screen in order to unlock it - I also have to actually tap the screen itself before the lockscreen will show. The buttons will illuminate, and you can tell that the backlight has come on, but the display itself is just black. Once you tap the screen the time, date, unlock and sound-mode "rings", etc., show up (the display comes on) and on goes the unlocking. When pushing the power button though, -everything shows up immediately as it should. Definitely not a deal-breaker but just a little quirk I noticed.

Again thanks to all for helping to make this over-looked phone into something that even my cheap-ass can enjoy.

Keep up the good work BobZhome.

Possibly found another issue:
When the phone is turned off, plugging in power automatically boots up the phone. (I don't recall if anyone else mentioned having this problem.)

Re: sensor problems--
I installed the app "Display orientator" which claims to be able to manually select between landscape/portrait orientations. Installed and seemed to run correctly, but toggling does nothing to the display.

The ROM is currently meant to do that I believe.

I tried this but its too unstable, the phone screen does not turn back on after locking it, you have to reboot, its super laggy, and the kernel sucks. Im just gonna use breakneckmod until the next build comes out later this week.

That is why i said to turn off screen animations. That's why it turns black. It is Plenty stable.

Great to Hear. Thanks for your hard work, and putting time into this when you don't even own one. Appreciate it.

I have a vs660 2.2.1 I recently flased with CM7.2.0RC0-VS660-BobZhome-120211. So far (other than my sensors are not working) witch is the only problem ive found in about 3 days. Ive noticed quite a few issues in the forum, but thats all for me. I am freshly (noob) getting into flashing/modding. any info needed, just let me know and ill do my best to post whatever is required. Love the rom but the no screen rotate is goona really get to me. I attempted the getitnowmarketing's kernel patch with no luck. so just restored to the CM7.2. (btw) when i did try to use a compus it gps'd me in seconds. not sure what that has to do with the sensors, but thought that might be usefull. thanx in advance. :)

(edit) I did happen to notice the phone does automatically boot up upon plugging in. (not an issue for me)

Not sure if this is the best place for this question?....My apologies if not :)

While using the stock 2.2.1 rom and the breakneck rom I was unable to change boot animations (I could click on and install) but would not actually change anything. Since flashing to this rom I can change the boot animation. Point being, would it be possible to simply choose from one of the listed devices with support (HTC Thunderbolt, DroidX, Droid 2,Droid PRO, Droid World Edition and Milestone 2) to successfully change the boot logo? I could just go ahead and try and restore if unsuccessful, but would rather get some input before hand.

You should be fine using one that works at 320x480. Other resolutions will display incorrectly. Also, the Vortex is a little slow when loading them, so you might notice longer animations are too slow.

Any recommended patches/fixes/workarounds for sensors/accelerometer not working? Even a point in the right direction for decent documentation to compile the script using settings from a ROM and or kernel that does work would be great. (on that not) Where do these settings reside?

If you follow the instructions that kappacat gave to me several posts back, all sensors and such will work. My rotation works great. It's been running good as can be expected for me so far!

I will try again, maybe I missed something. So far after I patched GINM's Kernel It does more harm than good (for my phone at least) Don't know what could be different? I have read through this entire thread 3 times and have tried a few different possible solutions with no luck.

I dunno, maybe just wipe everything (twice), backup your SD card on your PC (or just lose the contents if you don't care) then reformat and put fresh copies of ONLY the files you need to install on your SD. Also make sure you are using the build from that post : the 11/something one.

Hope that helps!

i hate the ginm kernel as well, im lucky if i can overclock past 748 mhz and theres too many force closes and you loose the interactiveX scaling

the lg ally has the same exact processor, try searching around for an ally kernel and flashing that or, you could even flash a optimus v rom, i know that'll work

Thanks for the help. If no luck....where (if you know) would the script for the sensors be at? From what I understand its all in the kernel (boot.img?) Thinking about exploring around with kitchen and if possible do some comparing. I have my stock nandroid. And the breakneck rom works too. but hardly a modded rom. looks exactly like stock without the bloat.

Cant even set the overclock after ginm. And dont even wanna bother with an OC app. How bout without, no good over 806 or up. Also, since I been back painting the last couple days batt was dead by noon. where as with stock I could listen for 10 hours easy. Although I think the gov has been set for performance. Gonna try to set on powersave and see how much or a diif it makes. Just curious on your take on the batt life exp.

For people confused about the links i posted before here's a nandroid backup with the fixes in place. YOU STILL NEED TO TURN OFF SCREEN ANIMATIONS IN THE CYANOGEN SETTINGS. As far as overclocking goes 806 is still nicer than 600 so just use an app till a fixed build.

Quick question everyone-

I've just installed CM7 11/09 and the links from Kappa''s post above. Everything works great so far. Calls are good again.

I have to turn on International Data Roaming to get 3g though right? Is this going to lead me into extra data charges? I currently have a 2gig plan (i believe) with Verizon.

other than that, thanks for the excellent work everyone. I really appreciate it.

EDIT:

checking my Verizon statement, it seems not.

I'm running into trouble using the camera for apps other than the default camera app. Google goggles and FX camera among others have this problem.

There's a big black strip down the middle of the viewfinder (about 1/3 of it) and the remaining parts on either side are mirror images of each other. Very strange. Pictures come out like nothing's wrong, but you can't really see what you're taking a picture of. I tried to screenshot it, but I keep getting a black screen.

hey i need your help badly!
