Root [ROM][WIP]CM7 Port for Vortex VS660

Install the recovery from the all in one recovery thread and use that to flash this rom. People have reported problems trying to use CWM

Thanks OhSeven, i just ended up doing a wipe and reflashing and it's working fine now. Quick additional question, I was trying to get gps and location working, but I wasn't sure what was going on because i couldn't get my location from gmaps with gps on any help? other than that the fix is working perfectly! just follow instructions in the thread

You can also repair the fix issue by flashing the stock rom and allowing Google maps to acquire a fix. Once you've gotten a fix in stock you can reflash to custom. DO NOT clear the aGPS state using any apps once you are back in custom or you will have to repeat the procedure again.

Speaking of GPS issues... I have had problems trying to use GPS bluetooth tethering. When using GPS tethering the device outputs strings other than NMEA. I've actually seen some logcat in the NMEA output, which is very odd.

Re-installed with the 1.19.12 version. Rotation issues solved. The 1.19.12 version is not on the OP. Still no usb connection, however.

I can nand restore back to previous ROM and get it to connect. With CM7 When connecting to windows it shows a drive F: but when you click on this drive, it say's "please insert disk". Linux does not even see the phone. Any Ideas?

Here is how to get everything working.

1. Flash the ROM and gapps

2. Flash GNM Kernel (fixes sensors & rotation)

3. Flash Camera Fix (provided by Kappacat)

4. Start rom and immediately disable screen animations in Settings>Cyanogenmod Settings>Display

5. Remove 01mvdalvik file in /system/etc/init.d use ES File Explorer with root/system write permissions enabled in app settings. (fixes market issues)

6. Wipe dalvik cache and cache in recovery. Then clear market cache in Settings>Applications

7. Remove camera_click.ogg and VideoRecord.ogg in /system/media/audio/ui (fixes no audio when recording video)

8. Finally enjoy your rom.

All this information can found throughout this thread, it's just scattered. Follow these steps and it will work properly.

I just flashed my vortex with your "BobZhomes CM7 with Fixes" (nand backup) that I downloaded from Mediafire. I was wondering if this file contains all of the above fixes. I think you didn't include the gapps because I can't seem to find market/google play app. Also when I wake up the phone, the unlock screen doesn't come up, (I only see the backlight) and need to touch the screen to bring up the lock screen. Do you have another nand backup with gapps included? thx

Downloaded this and installed on PC. That did not help. Let me add more info.

CM7:
Windows xp - Phone does not show up as drive. No ability to connect
Windows 7 - Shows drive letter (F: whatever is next) when you try to open it, error "please insert disk".
Lubuntu - Nothing happens. I cannot see it anywhere.

ThunderC:
all the above connect fine. Plug in the phone, drive appears and is available.

Installed per instructions with the exception of replacing CWM Recovery for Amon-Ra 3.06 Recovery. All works great!

My only issues with this ROM are:

Voicemail Service Settings are set to Virgin Mobile instead of Verizon (not a big deal, voicemail still works fine, just wondering why it has to dial the cell# instead of *86)
I am unable to download from Market, nor install manually, Verizon Backup Assistant (Possibly due to branding?). I know that VBA is just bloatware to most but it comes in very handy for me and my family and I would REALLY like to have it working. App acts like it's installing but then simply says App Not Installed.

Any ideas on how to make this work? (Tried setting the "Unknown Sources" check mark, but no change.)

Other than that, Awesome job on the ROM. Glad we Vortex users finally have something that LOOKS custom to go along with the behind-the-scenes custom stuff. Big props to all who made this happen!

I am starting a new vortex rom series, i am going from froyo, to gb, to ics.
I just finished a froyo build, " MaceksMod ROM Froyo V_2.0" I will be uploading is sometime this week and starting a thread for those of you who want to try new vortex roms. I would like to know if ANYONE WANTS TO BE A BETA TESTER FOR MY NEW VORTEX ROMS, so i can sort out all of the bugs before the final releases. Please either message me or email me macek110@gmail.com and say " I would like to be a beta tester" i will then send you the rom and installation instructions.
New LG Vortex ROM Series! Intro to MaceksMod ROM - YouTube

Hello everyone-- first off, I'd really like to thank all of you for figuring so much of this out. Rooting, flashing cm7, and applying the fixes was as easy as pie and I now actually enjoy using my vortex.

The one thing that still gets me, though, is the GPS. I have tried the fixes in this forum (and forgive me if I missed one), and I still cannot get a lock. I have a working Vortex on stock, and I copied over gps.conf, libgps.so, etc. to see if there was an incorrect configuration, but tools like GPS Test and GPS Status won't "see" any satellites. Additionally, Spare Parts shows no battery usage for GPS when it is "on" according to power control/settings.

I'm beginning to think this is a kernel issue, and (maybe) that the GPS chip isn't even being turned on.

Is there anything I can do to help?

Hi, hoping someone can offer some advice.

Here's what I did with my LG Vortex:

  1. Rooted it with Gingerbreak\.
  2. Installed Recovery (http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/330813-all-one-recovery-thread.html)
  3. Grabbed Cyanogenmod ROM (which I've liked other flavors of in the past), gapps, GNM kernel, and camera fix, and flashed in that order.
The phone freezes during the Cynogen mod logo moving at bootup.

I then tried clearing dalvik cache and cache from recovery, and tried flashing just the Cynogenmod ROM.

Same freeze-ups....some freeze-ups take longer than others.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

crackface, I had the same problem, and I tried flashing things in different orders/etc. and it still kept hanging. What did it for me was pulling the SD card, booting into recovery, mounting /system (go to mounts on the main recovery screen, then click on mount /system) and then wiping everything (there is an option for wiping everything, not just dalvik cache). Then pop your SD card back in and flash the ROM and fixes.

I got most everything working by using latest rev of ROM (I think my previous issue was I had an older rev), and I have only one issue - 3G doesn't work. You hit data connection, and, no 3g symbol and check web page and no google or anything.

Any chance anyone has an idea on fixing that?

You just have to enable "International Data Roaming" in the roaming menu under wireless. You won't get charged for roaming with it on, i've been using the rom for a few months now.

Hope that works for you!

EDIT:

It's under Settings > Wireless & Network Settings > Mobile Networks

I've had BobZhome's cm7 build w/all fixes on my phone now for 2 weeks and everything works wonderfully. Went on a 9 day business trip travelling to 9 different markets and everything from camera, gps, wireless, 3g etc. worked flawlessly. To be honest, I had more bugs with the stock 2.2 system it replaced!

I did almost brick my phone (lg boot loop) after trying to flash the camera fix that wasn't actually flashable:( Took 3 days and my code savvy 16 year old son to fix it, but I had it all back together right before I left town.

Just got back and wanted to give a big thanks to all involved in creating, coming up with fixes and compiling detailed installation instructions to make this rom work. I'm now running at 768 with absolutely no issues and have a LG Vortex that is a much snappier and more enjoyable than its ever been in the almost 2 years i've had it!

this is a stupid question but, before i flash the device (trying to take the phone and use it on metro) does the phone have to be rooted first?

Yes, you do. Since,m you must have a recovery on it. If the phone ISN'T rooted but, has a recovery, then that doesn't apply.
