Root [ROM][WIP]CM7 Port for Vortex VS660

hey i need your help badly! I have an LG Vortex and i downloaded your files and rom and put them on my sd card then i download Rom manager and flashed the clockwork recovery mod then selected the Install rom from sd option and my phone rebooted showed the normal lg screen then the lgmobile.com screen then it goes to the green android with the swirly thing but it just stops and freezes there! and i cant get into recovery mode it's like my phone doesnt have one how can i fix this? my parents will kill me if they got this android phone and it doesnt work now :( plz help me

You're supposed to flash the rom from the recovery screen, rom manager wasnt made for this phone, check out the link in my signature that I'll be adding soon

any new updates? still don't have any screen rotate. Iv tried every possible solution throughout this forum.

Don't take this the wrong way but you've already been told the fix to the screen rotation problem. If you want screen rotation to work your just going to have to go without the screen animations for now and use an app to overclock. I posted both the links you could flash and a nandroid backup to make it even easier. You have to turn off screen animations on it. For now this is the only way for screen rotation to work on this rom. Maybe the next update will fix it if your willing to be patient.

that link is down. ill try that nandroid. backup again, but I believe I either was in a boot loop or just stuck on boot animation screen after I flashed . don't remember for sure. could you prepost the link please?

sorry, was my network. link is fine.

Well after running it since yesterday it had the issue of the screen not wanting to wake up, so I went back to the December build.

flash all these
11/09 build- CM7.1.0.1-VS660-BobZhome-110911.zip (original link btw)
GINM Kernel- http://androidforums.com/vortex-all-things-root/307859-gpl-long-last-overclock-your-vortex.html
CameraFix- http://androidforums.com/attachment...m7-port-vortex-vs660-flashable-camera-fix.zip

Screen animations do not work on that build though. You need to turn them off.

I've been using the 1.19.12 build from BobZhome's Google Sites page, (not the 11.09.11 build) for a solid day now, with the GINM Kernel and the camera fix listed above, along with the latest gapps, and...

1. It seems stable.
2. The camera works.
3. Rotation works.
4. Accelerometer works.
5. Animations are still a total beeotch and don't work.
6. So far, it's working better for me than the 11.09.11 build.
7. No having to use the speaker phone workaround.

And finally...

8. Do not eat 15 bean soup that has been sitting out for 3 days, no matter how good it still looks and smells, or you'll have plenty of time to redo your LG Vortex on the toilet. My phone and I have both seen better days.

Just curious, in what ways has it worked better for you? I'm trying to decide if I should try it or wait for another build.

It seems to sort itself out faster after flashing. It seemed to take longer with previous builds. Rebooting solved any initial issue I experienced. It also seems like there are more CM7 features in this one. There is also the ability to do wireless ADB. It also seems like there is far more internal space with this install. I still have over 100mb free space, while having loads of apps installed, before I switched to the 1.19.12 build, I had less apps installed and had only 18mb free internally. I was getting low space messages left right and center.

Also, with the last build, I was still experiencing black bars across many camera and video apps, which was occasionally solvable by tapping and dragging a bit. I haven't seen this issue once.

Netflix still lags. I got the Market "insufficient space" issues again, but followed the steps BobZhome laid out on page 2 of this thread, and I was fine again.

One thing I've just noticed after several reboots... Sometimes apps installed to the SD card don't show up until after I restart Launcher Pro. It takes a while anyway after rebooting, but sometimes I've seen some apps just disappear, (Market, ES Explorer, etc.) Rebooting into recovery is never too big a hassle, so everything has ended up working well after wiping caches.

I just had to add that this phone was an appalling experience out of the box. The stock system was limited, the bloatware was everywhere, and we practically couldn't even use Google without being redirected to Bing. Before I found this thread, I had about 10% of the knowledge I have now when it comes to all of this.

I echo the thoughts of previous posters in saying that the actions of BobZhome and everyone else involved have been heroic. Special thanks also go to kappacat, geofferey and yes, even jacobmacek. (I see it less as advertising a youtube channel. More like taking his time to help people, despite the sounds of obvious domestic violence occurring in the background of his videos.)

As soon as I'm not broke as F, I'll be donating to BobZhome and Blarf. (I'm stuck with my CM7 Vortex until October, and I'm dying to have Chrome and 4G.) Hell, if I get rich soon, I'll buy everyone a round. F-it. 15 bean soup for everyone!

Okay so I've been quite lazy lately due to a broken wrist. I have uploaded bobs CM7 with all fixes once again. I also have a ROM running liquid settings if any of you are familiar with their ROMs for the HTC Thunderbolt. I swiped some pieces from their Thunderbolt ROM. It's a lil buggy but it does add some nice features, I call it Liquid Bob ;) If someone, especially Kappacat can help make it better that would be awesome. I know for sure it is missing parts.

As much as I would like to try that out I seem to be getting a 404 message back. Possibly re-upload to maybe mediafire or something like that?

Hmmm, the link is working for me here. I couldn't access the page from my Vortex, but it works on my PC in Mozilla Firefox. Try again... I'm uploading to Mediafire for you ;-)

Oh sure enough it does work. I'm curious why it didn't work through google chrome but i'm sure it was a problem on my end. I'm excited to see what differences there are.

I ran this and it seems great but for some reason I didn't have a dial pad?

They are Nandroid backups compressed with 7-zip so you need to download them and decompress. Once you've done that place the extracted folder in /sdcard/nandroid/mem=477M boot into recovery and restore from backup.

How do you install those Geoffrey ? They download as txt. I tried renaming and flashing as zip but it says aborted

Hmmm. That's a new one. Didn't see anything like that with any of these builds. I would definitely reflash. However, one of the first things I did was install an ICS CM7 theme (MDPI, as HDPI won't work on this phone,) so I could have missed it.

Time to flash again if that problem persists after more than one reboot.

I believed it was me making the mistakes so I followed what you said, renamed the txt to 7z unzipped, created that folder (nandroid wasn't there, I had tried it in clockwork/backup). Well neither worked. It said check recovery log so I went to options, recovery2sd or whatever, there's an error. It actually spits out " check the recovery log" haha. Attempting my own backup gives the same error. I'm on 010912 with all fixes in place. My recovery image reads 3 .06 on bottom

I'm switching back to the LG Vortex after I fixed it so I'll be very happy to give this a test run, I'm sick of being without CM7 due to a locked bootloader on the Xperia Play. :P

I'm having a VERY hard time activating it though... My LG's battery was a bit low already, and after 15 minutes with the Verizon Support on the phone, I was lead to the conclusion of the battery being too low to activate the phone. I bet it'll work after I fully charge it. :)

EDIT: Verizon couldn't even activate it manually... Weird, The Xperia Play will be my primary, so I can't test anything that involves 3G and Reception. I already have CM7 on my old Vortex. :)

I finally installed the 1/19 build. The kernel is back to the one in Dec, so the same issues/solutions are present. The only difference is the update to the newer CM7. The clock in the status bar can also be centered, and defaults to black (not visible), but it could also be disabled altogether. I also noticed an option to disable boot animations for faster boot, but it wasn't noticeably faster.

I haven't noticed any new bugs yet. I hope bobzhome gets the bugs out of his kernel though because oc'ing is much more stable with it!

Also, with the last build, I was still experiencing black bars across many camera and video apps, which was occasionally solvable by tapping and dragging a bit. I haven't seen this issue once.

Same here, those buggy camera apps display correctly

For those having problems with GPS....

I could not get it to work at all on my first flash. I flashed back to 2.2.2, wiped everything, and then went in and turned everything on (wifi, bluetooth, gps, etc.) Then I booted to recovery, wiped, and re-flashed CM7, and now GPS works fine. Not sure if turning everything on does anything but I had read that trick on a different forum relating to CM7.

Great rom! Thanks to all for your hard work!

Ok, so no new fixes on the rotate problem. So I decided to try the 7.1.0.1 version and I have the screen rotation. [Only thing], it wont wake up most the time. Sometimes it wakes up fine though. And for some reason the nan backups previously submitted dont do anything for me. patiently waiting for a new release. I know how much time can go into things like this, Love the mod, just wanna say... great job guys!!!

So I'm still on the same build, and here are the issues still plaguing this little Vortex... (Not sure if they're Android based, CM7 based, App Dev based or what, but I wanted to report them anyway...)

1. Cooliris crashes 2 out of 3 times when attempting to view gallery contents. Sometimes waiting for everything to load allows it to work, most of the time it doesn't, and crashes anyway.

2. NPR app crashes constantly while other apps run, particularly other audio based apps such as Google Listen, TuneIn Radio, etc.

3. Misc app problems with Facebook, Twitter, etc, staying black on the screen without loading. I doubt this is a CM7 Vortex issue, but I wanted to bring it up, just in case.

4. Netflix is still out of sync, almost always, no matter what version, for me anyway.

5. With multiple Google accounts, sync seems to turn itself on and off. I have several Google accounts for different businesses, and almost every time I check to see if they are still syncing Gmail, they are not, despite what I set it to by default. Again, this might not be a Vortex or CM7 problem, but if it is, I'd like to bring it up.

6. I don't look nearly as attractive in pictures taken with this build as I did in the previous ones. I think this is a me-issue. Damn.

With the 1.19.12 release, I can totally rotate. Occasionally it gets stuck on landscape, but for the most part it seems to work fine for me.
