Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

Everything seems to be working great here!! Only thing I have noticed is the hidden menu is no longer accessible?????? I may be doing something wrong, all attempts at accessing the menu no longer work as in previous versions??? Other than that awesome rom once again Blood!! Thanks to you and Kouma, Hroak13 and others who have contributed!!

So far it seams good but one thing it seams i have alot less bars of reception, where use to have 1 to 2 has none most of the time, it doesn't say searching for service so not that bad. Is their a way to check for PLR update like before don't see that option anymore in the menu.

I'm having the same problem and was just getting ready to post it .lol

After flashing the new modem , I'm getting weaker signal on both CTMod and CM7 . On old modem , CTMod 2.5 was getting 2-3 bars , CM7 was getting 1-2 bars at home .

CTMOd 3.1.2 and CM7 beta5 are now getting 0-1 bars . Kinda messed up because I was thinking that I would be getting better signal seeing as it's a new modem .

Could have been one of the fixes was that the RSSI values were out of calibration (RSSI= Received signal strength indication)

So you're saying that this modem is actually more accurate , correct ?

Edit : That could explain the difference in signal I was getting between CM7 & CTMod .

Well number of "Bars" is a subjective term and can be quite open to interpretation.
Signal strength is measured in dBm(decibels miliwatt Sciencey Link)

-120dBm is typically the lowest number that the radio will report.
Higher numbers are stronger received signals (Note that we're starting at a negative number, so higher is closer to 0)
On my setup, -105dBm will fluctuate between 1 and 2 bars.
-95dBm is 3 bars.

What's going the make the bigger difference is the number of "bars" since they are just a series of images that the system swaps to based on the number it gets from the radio. I'm not sure what process is in control of that specifically (probably framework.apk seeing as the images are stored there iirc) so in theory, I could compile a whole new framework.apk from the android repository that I changed to have 20 different threshold levels and make 20 different signal level images.

the new radio binaries may have adjusted the signal level reported by 5dBm, or may have simply changed the reporting resolution (i.e. only report in multiples of 5) so that display changes happen more or less frequently depending on the desired result.

So the modem may be more accurate, Or possibly purposefully less accurate to make things appear more stable

Thanks for breaking that down for me Kouma . I understand the way the phone translates dBm's to an image now when using the bars and how much they can fluctuate depending on the setup .

I decided to go ahead and wipe my phone since I was starting to have issues when switching between CWM backup images of CTMod and CM7 . I'm just gonna run each rom on a different sdcard .

Since I was doing that , I went ahead and restored the rooted GB image and started from scratch . After reading your post , I went ahead and decided to keep the new modem . I Odined the PHONE zip in order to do that .

I am now fluctuating between 91 dBm's and 101 Bm's . I think that I'm just gonna stick w/ the dBm option for now . Like you were explaining , it's a lot more accurate . Thank again for taking the time to break that down for me . :D

Sorry if I got overly technical. I work with with RF a good bit in my job so I'm a bit knowledgeable about the subject.
I find it interesting that as such a big money industry as telecommunications is, that devices would be able to operate at much lower levels.
Cellphones can't make calls at -120dBm, but I can stream 100Mb/s ethernet data 5 miles at -160dBm all day long with a railroad/military spread spectrum radio.
(note that -115dBm is called the "noise floor", anything under that is generally considered undetectable by frequency scanners)

No worries man . You broke it down well enough for me to get a good understanding of how it works .

As for cell phones not being able to make calls below 120dBm's ...... aren't they regulated by Big Brother as to what frequencies and levels they can transmit and receive on ? If not , you would think that smaller pre-paid companies would upgrade their phones to receive a lower signal range . It would sure be a BIG selling point . :D

hey blood most of the removed gb apps from ct..is it okay to get rid of all the same apps...i mean is there any replacments i would need to install so everything runs stable..i wanna keep it stock gb for now..but id like to get rid of everything i dont need...keep what i do

yea you can remove that stuff. getting rid of music.apk breaks bluetooth tho

hey guys, what a great rom,i thought 2.4 was the shizzz but this 1 is almighty, lol the almighty chicken tits, although im still a bit confused about the fa19 update that keeps prompting,do i go ahead and install it,i thought i read in the previous posts that the update is friendly with ctmod3.1.2 but if that rom is already 2.3.6 then why update other than doing it just to git the prompts to stop?my prevail is still ej06,any advice or clairification would be much appreciated.thx

EJ06- 2.3.5[\B] baseband
FA19- 2.3.6 baseband
("better" modem)

Kouma made one with root and cwm

you can try this:

1) make a backup in CWM
2) flash 2.4
3) go to backup and restore>advanced restore
4) pick your backup and pick restore data

you may want to wipe your dalvik cache after doing this tho

I know I am quoting an old post, but I just wanted to let you know this method no longer works.

I used this method successfully up until 3.0.
When I use it now, my phone boots and apps restore but all of my settings for the system and those apps fail to restore.
Also my home button does not work.

Why isn't this working anymore?
Is there anything I can do to get it to work?

On the bright side;
I installed the new base band FA19 over odin, installed CTMOD 2.5 and restored my data successfully. (No more nagging message to update!)

Although I would love to use 3.1.2 without redoing my entire phone again...

Thanks! Keep it up!

Ok lol . The phone is running great w/ 3.1.2 and KoumaKernel 3.1 . I've just got one question about my batteries . I've got 2 Chinese batteries and the phone gives me an error saying that it cannot charge non supported batteries or something like that .

CTMod 2.5 didn't give me these alerts and CM7 doesn't either . Why did this just start with CTMod 3.1.2 ?

The phone still charges even thought I get the sound and the message . Is there a way to disable the alert ? Thanks

I think these new found "inconveniences" are side effects from the change from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6.

I was kinda thinking the same thing too . I was wondering if anyone knew of a fix yet ? I've done a search and didn't find anything . Just a bunch of people having the same problem .

I'd have to agree. I just posted in the KK thread about the issue I had that resembles your problem. Either that or: KK 1.3 and CTMod 3.1.2 don't get along with each other. I've been messing around all night with it. I just flashed 3.1.2 then KK 1.3 without reformatting the sd-ext. All my apps are in the app bin but they aren't placed on the actual screens, the 5 screens are all blank. Messages & call log not restored. Hitting the power button on top turns the screen on and off but there is no more lock screen (it's activated in settings) Just a few things at a quick glance. So I just reverted everything back to GB 2.3.5 Ej06 CTMod 2.5.

What I'm going to do now is Odin to stock FA19, flash CTMod 2.5, flash KK 1.3, then do a Titanium restore. (To see if it's the FA19 update) After that I'll Odin to stock FA19, flash CTMod 3.1.2, then try using Darktremor's A2SD without using a Kouma Kernel flash, then Titanium restore. (To see if it's a problem KK. Which I really hope it's not the case cause I hate having to use A2SD or Link2SD.)

Again, sorry for the wall of text. Just trying to help out lol

It wont work cause the OS is completely different

If you redo your apps on the new version then you can start using that method again for future updates

thats part of the new OS. Ill see if I can remove or disable it

Like I said before, the OS is completely. By not formatting your SD partition before installing the kernel you are mixing old files with new ones

So if your going from anything 2.0 to anything 3.0 and your using a app or data to SD mod you must format your partition

Originally I did format the SD partition like you said before and still had the problem. I even went as far as going all the way back to rooted stock FA19 and loading a fresh install of CTMod 3.1.2, rebooting, partition the SD, rebooting, then flashing KK 1.3. I don't use any app/data to SD mods. Just partitioning the SD card and using the Kouma Kernels.

Try

Flashing the rom
Reboot
Format your partition
Flash the kernel

Boot up and don't restore anything, install your apps from the market manually

OK so I just did a fresh install of 3.1.2 after Odin to stock rooted FA19. I reformatted the SD then partitioned it. No flash of a Kouma Kernel. Went in and did a Titanium restore of just my system data. Rebooted and had the same effect as mentioned earlier. Home button don't work etc...
