Eris to v2.x, when?

LOTS of my apps have been receiving updates in the past couple of days. Are the developers getting their apps ready for 2.x? Just wondering.......

Maybe, although most phones not running 2.1 aren't due for the upgrade until this summer. The only ones that are rumored to be close is the Eris. Would they make changes just for one phone? Maybe. But it could just be a coincidence.

Chuck Norris doesn't want Android 2.1....It wants him!

Look guys, I don't know why people keep ragging on the Eris as some dinosaur POS. Four months ago it was #2 after the Moto Droid. Four months after the N1 comes out, it too will be seen as a dinosaur POS, as the latest phones running 2.3 or even 3.0 with processors at 2 ghz come out in time for the Christmas buying season. Tech is like that. We all know it. You buy a device and it is obsolete before you walk out the front door of the shop.

The Eris i a great phone. It does things that my WinMo phone could only dream of six months ago. It rivals the Iphone in some regards. 2.1 will only make it better. No- It is not cutting edge. No- It can't make my breakfast for me while doing a triple backward somersault and whistling the Ode to Joy. Perhaps it lags for a millisecond longer than the Droid when running an app. But so far I have not had a single problem with any major app i have needed/ wanted because I "only had 1.5". I have 30 of the most popular apps on the market on my phone, and they all work.

What are you people complaining about? It is a phone for the love of all that is holy! I bought a phone that happens to do some really cool stuff, not a supercomputer to rival my i7 Dell running 5G RAM!

And this phone ROCKS!

i love the Eris, one day i will take it apart and throw a snapdragon on it and boot it up. The n1 won't have shit on Super Eris

The Eris is using year-old technology. In electronics, it was obsolete a month after its components came out.

I agree that the technology is older, however I disagree with it being obsolete. Take Wii for example. Love it or hate it, it uses 5+ year old technology (i.e. bluetooth) and is still extremely successful in what it does. I know this is apples to organges but I really dislike when people put down slightly older technology when the user experience is still very successful.

I build custom computers for a living. And by the time the customer picks out the parts, gets them into my shop, and gets a built unit, most of them have already been "replaced" by "The Next Big Thing"

Not literally, but as others have stated, tech moves faster than it can be marketed. So every Comp/Phone/TV is "old technology" by the time it gets to the mainstream consumer.

Those of us who have worked with tech for as long as I have, and have normal sized paychecks, learned long ago to admire the "New and Sexy" while still realizing "Mine still does the job". yeah, the Nexus One is gonna kick the Eris's butt. But the one after that will kick the Nexus in the seat, and the one after that.....

That "obsolete" tag doesn't fit, not with Eris, iPhone, Blackberry, Instinct or dozens of other device technologies. Why say such a thing, Smacky?

What aging communication devices need are true updates to keep them compatible with software being written here and there, in most cases.

In some cases those updates can be critical to the use of the device, but not very often; usually it's about whether or not some change by one manufacturer will be available to owners of phones made by another manufacturer.

In the case of the Eris it does not seem to be critical at all. 1.5 is fine, but, as we see posted around the forums, there are software offerings and tweaks out there that 2.x would hopefully accommodate.

Verizon having a major data outage in the south.....are they getting ready for something.......I know just a pipe dream. Please don't start telling me how wrong I am. :p

Maybe the outage is caused by all the OTA's being rolled out....(Sorry, couldn't resist...I tried)

all these 2.1 threads keep f-ing with my emotions. i feel like falling into the fetal position and crying.
i'll believe this update exists when it shows it's little head on my phone. until then, you can find me on the floor, crying, and probably still playing with my kick ass my phone.

I am not sure if this was just a bug or if it may be a sign but this morning when I woke up I saw that my phone had an update available. I opened the notification and my phone started trying to download an update but was not able to. I do not know what the update was and I have also tried *#*#checkin#*#* and have not seen it again. I live in Alabama so it my have something to do with the data outage that I have heard some talking about but I have not had any issues with the data network.

This could be a sign but I just really don't know. I have tried everything I can think of to get the notification back but have not had any luck.

@ NKT,

Hey man hows it goin today. Just thought I'd see if you could possibly answer this for me, if not I totally understand. When you received the 2.1 update for testing, did they give you any clues as to when they hypthetically might be wrapping up the test stages if all goes well? [I know the ota failed a while ago, but lets pretend that didnt happen ;-)] Forgive me if this is a dumb Q, I am unfamiliar with the testing of consumer electronics. Also dude, whatever happened a few weeks ago when that guy PM'd you about possibly getting 2.1 off ur phone and having root shortly thereafter? I assume since we never heard about it here that it didn't fly... Can you confirm this?

Thank you sir.
