Eris to v2.x, when?

i really dont understand how to download this to my phone i downloaded it and mounted my phone but i have no clue what to do after that some on please help

If the hero can run live wallpapers then I don't see how the Eris can't, pending root of course.

I think the Eris can run live wallpapers, but it would probably be a noticeable performance drag. Verizon probably decided to remove it so it was one less support issue they needed to deal with.

Probably the most interesting part of this thread is reading the contrast between all excited people who went for the update, and the stoic rationalizations of those who have chosen not to (which is fine, of course).

I was a little worried about it, too, and I pondered the notion overnight, but this morning I remembered the immortal words from the film Risky Business: Sometimes, you just gotta say, "What the f**k!"

Good words to live by, indeed. So, here goes!

And ... success!!

Everything seems to be working beautifully, and the UI is definitely snappier. I'm really pleased ... it's almost like getting a whole new phone.

so did u get it or did alot of other people get it?
cause i restarted a few times but its still no sound.
im feeling horrible cause i upgraded it for him!

Have you tried a battery pull? I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, I (thankfully) didn't have this problem when I updated.

trying now...damn i feel bad.

If that doesn't work, here is how you fix it.

1. Go to Personal Communications Devices
2. Download the MR2 Uprade on the right hand side.
3. Unzip the file to a directory.
4. Plug the phone into the PC.
5. Run the "RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_1.17.605.1_release_signed_with_driver.exe" file that you extracted.
6. ???
7. Profit

This should wipe the phone and re-install Android 1.5. This will wipe all the data on the phone such as contacts, etc. However, the upgrade to 2.1 did the same thing. From this point he can either stick with 1.5 or give 2.1 another go.

Also, anybody else looking to go back to 1.5 can follow these instructions.

Very excited about the leaked ROM. Many thanks to thekrtek, the XDA guys, et al. for their due diligence. Glad to see all the good reviews coming in. I will _probably_ wait for the OTA. (I still believe it will come on Mar. 5 - my originally projected date).

Odd that our build of 2.1 doesn't have Friend stream. Why is that? And I thought all HTC and Android widgets were on the same section now. Could this be an earlier build?

I don't think the FriendStream was put into the rom by HTC. It may be available later to download. I've kept checking the download but there's none available.

It seems that we will be able to receive the OTA once it rolls out, for those who are worried.
Unconfirmed but believed so

Even if the OTA doesn't get 'offered' to those who flashed early, one would have to assume the final build will be released at some point, in the event it's different enough to justify reflashing the phone.

Yes, It did happen to me. Google voice search didn't work and wouldnt even load up. Tried to make a call and couldn't hear the phone ringing. I got an alert that there was an audio malfunction.

Restarting the phone fixed it.

No Friend Stream? How about the new Sense RSS reader widget demo'ed on the Legend and Desire (called "news" maybe)? Is it there?

That'd suck if they left out widgets on the Eris update, since they aren't terribly processor intensive or anything. Maybe we can chalk it up to the early release?

That is what I am thinking this is an early release.

Alright, I sketched out about the leaked OS but I am really tempted to DL it. So, is it worth it, really? or should we just wait until the legit one comes out. Also...a big one... if I put it on my phone now will that eliminate me from getting free phones when mine tweaks or breaks from verizon? any words of wisdom or help would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

Another thing...anyone notice the url window staying open in the new browser--it used to fade away after a few seconds in 1.5. The browser itself takes up a lot less memory, but the url window stays up (and rolls up when you scroll down.)

So this is confirmed to work? In case I want to go back if they push Ota and we can't get it for some odd reason.
