For that poster asking about Sarab Singh, it looks like hes gone. His twitter post about being on the Incredible has been deleted, and his facebook page is now put on private (Before it was on public).. looks like he got paranoid and i don't think we will be getting any more information out of him.

Yeah, if he can confirm the RAM for us and the video capture, I'll be set. I'm already doin' just fine waiting for this phone. I don't even care if it releases in May. I'm fine with that. If it's being delayed, that mostly just means that they're making it faster or prettier. So, I'll wait till May if that's what they're doing.

He is also the only real source for the 256MB ram spec. I'm not saying he is wrong, I'm just saying every other time you heard this is was just a regurgitation of his post. Just like how someone was told May two days ago in this thread and now we are seeing websites run with that date like it is a fact.

devdroidian, thanks for the info so far and any more you can squeeze out. :)

I wonder if others on this board have given thought to what you will do when you get the phone. I thought about this months ago. I've spent so much time obsessing about how cool it is and what it will let me do. When I get the phone all those cool things will.... let me obsess about the next thing. That or I will have a bunch of free time on my hands and the phone will only get used slightly more than my crappy moto v9.

The best thing that ever happened to android forums was this thread + the bravo thread.

You're welcome...

(flame on!... all i did was create the thread, lol)

But on a serious note, i couldn't agree more...i've been around for a while now and having observed thousands of different threads this is one of the greatest successes as far as usefulness, value added, keeping ego's checked, tempers tempered, etc... congrats guys, great job so lets keep it going!

(What are the chances of getting like a t-shirt or something created for threads that reach some milestone like 3k?)

Can someone who is in the know please answer me. Is this as far out as we go with rumored android phones for verizon. What i mean is, is there supposed to be a more powerful phone coming out in the summer or fall? Im new to the whole cell phone rumor thing so i dont know how early the rumors start or even how many phones HTC is planning on rolling out to big red this year.

will there be? probably. are there rumors of them yet? no.

+1 I couldn't agree more with that post. I think you are right on and I have a feeling we'll be finding out that the RAM is more than 256 soon.

Same thing with any piece of new tech I'm unfamiliar with.
1) Learn to use Android like any user
2) Learn to use Android like a power user
3) In the process of 2, break something
4) In the process of getting back to 2, learn to fix it
5) Start looking into hardcore tweaking and rooting
6) Get discouraged at all the conflicting info about 5
7) Stay at 2, occasionally poking at 5.

I would TOTALLY wear that shirt! And I have to agree, this thread is the best thread I've seen since I've been involved with this forum since October (became a member in December).

Just wondering...

Looks like a small yellow light. Any explanations?

Ummm, don't know in if this has been on more recent phones, but my XV6900 has notification lights under the earpiece/speaker grille. Could that just be the backside of a similar light?

EDIT: Or maybe it's just a bit of metal reflecting light

I have an account... I've made t-shirts before...

I'd love the looks I could get walking into VZW with my "I survived the Incredible 10k" shirt

Soviet spycam, perhaps? :p ;)

ya a t-shirt that says newsradio your wrong 3k post and counting

If you are referring to my earlier post, as I assume, programming can directly effect how my RAM is used for a program/function. That said, you can only impact it so much, and the industry would rather rely on newer, better hardware than more efficient code. Being the titans that they are, I'd hope Google can give us better code (as has been evidenced by the reports of an overall snapper OS on various devices over various Android upgrades). 256 is still a puny number, and bugs me IF IT IS THE FINAL NUMBER. I'm hoping for more, but the handful of user reports on the Incredible seem to indicate it's snappy nonetheless.

Wow, that's a load of smoke. While there is definitely some lazy programmers on the desktop side of things, you can't be lazy in the mobile world. Mobile OS's have been very limited in the amount of ram they allow a program to use. I think android, winmo 6, and iPhone OS (and I'm not 100% about iPhone) are the only large scale OS's that really allowed programs to freely use RAM. All the older windows OS's had a 32MB limit on ram that you had to be creative to get more. This is partly because ram was more scarce than it is today.

The code isn't so much of the problem. I work on a program that is 1-2 millions of lines of code large and statically linked it is only 8MB, and that's without 3rd party libs, sound files, config files, and data. Now that 8mb isn't completely loaded into ram either (it's paged). All of our install is about 2gb+ and we use less than 32mb ram. It's not easy, but you have to do it in the mobile world.

Now there is always a trade of for speed and memory size. If you want things fast you need to cache, index, prefetch, use lookup tables, and whatnot. Now there is always room for someone to do things lazy and take up way more memory than they need, but even then unless they are completely ignorant it isn't as much as you would think.

Those new processors and more ram allow us to do more or just do things faster, but you always have to be cognizant of your programs footprint or catastrophe happens.

256 is definitely less than ideal from the perspective of running way more than you need at any time, but the OS is still young so it may get more efficient with time. Also, less ram means less power which is good especially if you aren't using the ram anyway. Just like under clocking a 1ghz chip to 850. Users won't notice it ever and if an app wants more juice you could always have the OS/drivers move the clock rate up.

The possibility of lower ram isn't a deal breaker for me, but if they don't deliver soon than maybe I will get the N1 (I want the dual mics and possibly quicker updates, but I like the usb plug on the side for docking and optical trackpad more) or maybe Motorola will have a 4.3" android phone out in june/july.

and if this phone doesnt come out till may just think.... it will go by so fast spring is almost here so that means way more crap to do... i can remember it like it was yesterday -30 degrees outside sitting indoors going damn i wish i could go outside without freezing now its almost 40 degrees put the winter coat away and breaking out the shorts

I'd like one that has a picture of a dude holding an Incredible pointing at it with a finger with a big smile (the ear to ear kind) on his face with a little Troll (like this one) underneath with a caption bubble that reads, "I guarantee 80 billion percent there is no such thing as an Incredible!"

Any takers? ;)

Thank you, thank you, i'm here all week...tip your waitress...

Could be where you put a finger nail to open the back cover?

I'd take cutting the grass over shoveling the snow any day.

I found myself waiting for the Droid, then finding out about the N1, then waiting then waiting for that, then finding out about the Incredible and waiting for that!

Perhaps, I should wait for the future android with light sabre and molecular transport.

You just have to pull the trigger and do it. I've had my NE2 ready since November and was so, so close to buying the Droid; and then I found this forum. I'm committed to squeezing that trigger for the Incredible/N1 now. Even if that "Scorpion" device ends up being some badass SuperPhone.

Here's my deal.. I'm on a family plan, and I'm thinking that google won't offer upgrade for family plans, so the incredible is my next phone by default, save some miracle that allows me to upgrade to N1.

Pound for pound? Gimme the Incredible with 512 mbs RAM? I think I'm all over it. We'll see. We shall see.

Perhaps I should have been a little more clear. I stand by my original remark...but I may indeed buy an N1 and go with Verizon. Now this might still be rewarding them...but only for their good network. I should have said...I won't reward them by buying the Incredible if it's a lesser phone. And if the N1 didn't exist I would have to say I've been quite satisfied with Sprint and would probably just stay with them until Verizon gives me a phone worth switching for....and of course this a personal thing. I'm sure Verizon won't miss me...but at least I have my principles! FWIW...I've been very satisfied with Sprint.

Fair enough. I know many who are satisfied with Sprint

Anonimac I promise you if I am granted the chance to hold it again I will get that picture for you :)
I am really trying to keep up but don't have time to read everything, Sorry if I don't answer one of your questions, feel free to contact me directly.

If I had known about this thread in JAN I would have been here all along. I searched for incredible back then but nobody seemed to know or care when I made the post, I guess I started a little fire lol. I hope I have helped you all feel a little better about my validity, I also hope the 1 picture I forgot to blur doesn't get anyone in trouble.

I want to stress I me personally no officialness to this at all believe this phone will ship and may have had more than 256mb of ram all along, that seems to be the big concern, I do not know a number for sure sorry. I didn't check this time and I was not 100% the first time. I asked two others that were there and they thought they remembered 256 as well so thats what I put in my original post from Jan. I hope I can get a confirmation soon.

I am new at all this leak stuff, so you know be patient with me I am sure I will make more mistakes along the way :)

Seriously there needs to a way to make a summary of each new page of this thread

Wow, that's a load of smoke.

Well that was a little...rude. A simple "actually, that's not really true." would have sufficed just fine. I never professed to be an expert programmer. If you'll look back, I actually stated that I dropped out of my school's CS department because I suck at coding. That was merely my understanding.

Anywho, that RAM isn't a dealbreaker for me either. I want Sense UI though, so I'll most likely take this over the N1...plus, I think the N1 is kinda ugly.

Thank you for your help/info! A RAM confirmation will defintely be nice, as most of us are here are dying to know.. any additional pics/specs would be great too.:)

I don't think RAM is a deal breaker either. I'll take Sense UI with 256MB over Vanilla with 512MB. The DROID is plenty snappy with its 256MB of RAM. Incredible will have snapdragon, so, that's good enough for me if it comes to that.
