Yeah, and isn't the 1.5 GHz processor a dual core? I think I read somewhere, and I can't remember where, that Qualcomm will not be selling these chip sets for mobile phone applications until early 2011. I'll look for a link, and post if I find it.
I read that somewhere also, both for netbooks as well as for mobile phones, but much later. With Wimax support I am incline to say its the follow up to the Supersonic which most likely will come out this year. Since the 1.5 chips are going out much later, it would probably be the followup.

Either way, Verizon will have the Incredible and then eventually a Lite version followup to compete with the Sprint Supersonic 4G phone.

Whoa, I can't get over the speed on that phone in the video. Wow, any phone with a 1.5ghz processor is (pardon the pun) incredible.

But of course there is always a bad side to things and the battery life will last all but 5 minutes.

TS out (getting a back up generator for my phone)

Cosmic! :p

Post 3000. Well done everyone. Best thread on the internet.

Dammit! you all are posting too fast! I have been 2-3 pages behind for the lst 2 hours. Sucks that I log in every evening and have like 6 pages of catch up to do, lol. I guess my own chit chat posts aren't helping my cause either.

I have a proposal. Can we make another thread that is just a compilation of facts and rumors about the phone specs, release dates, etc? Do it all in the original post and keep updating it as new data/rumors come out?

I think it would be hugely useful to us all and especially any new members that are now having to sort through 3000 posts to find useful info. COnsider that there are probably 20 total posts of 3000 that are really solid reports of info and the rest are just posts because we are all so addicted to this phone and can't shut up (like me).

Love the thread and keep up the great work!

I agree, we should make a new thread with what we know to date and then post strictly post new Incredible related news in that thread. This one is a lot of interesting chat but so hard to keep up with!

New to the forums, just spent about an hour and a half (at least!) catching up from page 50-something (liked to from a news article).
Anyways, this doesn't have much to do with the current conversation but I figured I'd try to give a little more detail than previous posts have about the multitouch issues on the Nexus One (and I guess the Desire as well, since it'll have the same screen). The screen used on the Nexus One is Synaptics' "Clearpad 2000", which has been around since 2007 and is what is used in the G1, see here: ClearPad | Synaptics
"ClearPad 2000 Series—the original ClearPad solution—brings exceptional DualTouch (2-finger) touch capabilities to a wide range of handheld devices. High performance and accuracy combined with seamless gesture integration make ClearPad 2000 Series the proven touchscreen leader seen in the market."
Multitouch gestures like pinch-zooming work because the two points (the maximum the screen's sensor can register) don't cross the same x or y coordinates. The issues people were having, and the issues that the Google people were trying to say was normal behavior of the hardware, were due to the fact that the Synaptics screen tracks each axis independently, and it gets confused when the points tracked get too close within an axis. After that, it can only guess which measuring belongs to which point, and it often guesses wrong (though this guessing would be where a software fix comes in). As Cyanogen posted on the XDA forums:
“Interestingly, there is a hack in the framework (which is enabled on the Droid, but not on the N1) that can be enabled by setting config_filterTouchEvents. With it disabled (the default), I get the axis-flipping problem. Enabling it fixes this, but there are still issues with the points “sticking” when they cross.”
So, there is hope that this problem could be somewhat resolved on the Nexus One and similar devices, possibly including the Incredible.

I was looking at the pictures taken by Devdroidian, and it looks to me like the Incredible is not nearly as thick as some people were saying. In the first pic below:

Next, assuming these phones are in the same position as the last photo, look at how much of the left side of the G1 can be seen even though the Incredible is right next to it:

incredible2-550x412.jpg

To me, it looks like the Incredible is much thinner.

Devdroidian, how would you compare the two in terms of thickness, and how about the Incredible compared to the N1?

Sorry if this has been pointed out already, I couldn't find any posts discussing the shadows.

The chin of the G1 makes the G1's shadow larger than it actually should be, so that is not the best way to compare thicknesses.

However, I originally thought that the Incredible looks very thick in comparison to the G1 in these pictures, but assuming that the phones were not moved at all and are still touching, that middle picture does make it seem much thinner than the previous one. Hopefully Devdroidian can give us a little bit more insight to this and solve the thickness debacle.

You know, that chin is such a turn-off for me that I forgot about it:rolleyes: You are definitely right about that.

He had talked about it being significantly thinner than the G1. Here was his exact tweet about the picture from last night, FWIW:

IMO, the elevated chin plays a large role in the shadow vs. the Incredible's more-flat chin. I think the second picture is a better representation and I agree, it doesn't look AS thick as people make it out to be. (Probably still hefty but nothing outlandish)

Yeah, in his original blog, I think Devdroidian said it was just a hair thinner than an iPhone 3G. Not too bad.

IMO, the elevated chin of the G1 plays a pretty signifcant role in casting that shadow depending on where the light source is; versus the more flatten chin of the Incredible, so I'm not sure that'd be a good comparison. The second picture seems to be better at showing the thickness (even at a slight angle), and I agree, the Incredible doesnt seem as thick as everyone is making it out to be. (Still looks somewhat hefty but nothing too extreme)

I would imagine with a side slotted micro USB slot, that it'd be a side-docking device as opposed to the Nexus One
The volume rocker buttons are on the same side as the usb port though so it would have to rest on the buttons, which would not be flush with the side of the device. I wonder now if there is a port at the base and if not, how it will dock.

just had a theory pop into my melon...

the incredible will be launched same day as the N1 and here is why.

The N1 will be through google and mindless morons who do not think for themselves or know where to look will go to VZW looking for it and the reps in the store will be like "no, we don't carry that phone here, but look we have this shiny red phone that is just as good. plus, if you have any questions you can come ask us and not have to call google and wait on the phone for hours like those saps over @ tmo"

hey, just my opinion I could be wrong

D

I would assume there'd be a small valley/indentation to where the rocker buttons are, but thats just my take on it. I'd actually prefer the side-insert dock versus the Nexus one bottom-insert dock so hopefully the rocker buttons won't be a problem.

I am not sure how helpful this might be in giving some more perspective to the thickness of the phone. Captured from the infamous video leak:

Hey everybody, I'm new here so forgive me if I'm a bit of a noob. But can someone tell me what the fuss is all about over the Incredible? It seems to me that its a Nexus One with Sense? Or a Desire clone. Is there something else that I'm missing?

I'm lusting after a new Android phone and just want to make sure I'm get something good. I'm contract is up at the end of March and hoping there is something good to get. Either a Nexus One or a Incredible on Verizon or Supersonic on Sprint. THANKS!

I wonder why it was not noted from the video in the first place that the Incredible had the USB plugged into the side. I am just now seeing that, far into us getting pictures, that we are now talking about it being on the side. I say for all the PI work going on around here.....Fail us.
