Help 2.3.6 Battery life sucks

I changed my email check frequency to never and that seems to have helped somewhat. No real verdict yet.

Also, did a full discharge and full charge which also seems to have had an effect.

Looking forward to ICS coming out.

Doesn't matter how you do it, you just have to let it shut itself off. When I did this, I also turned it back on a couple of times just to be sure it was all the way down. It seems to have helped somewhat, too.

UPDATE:

I discovered that I had Facebook updates turned on. Turned that off and now, my battery is lasting practically forever. :D

Overall, if I have all automatic updates for e-mail, etc. turned off, I don't have the serious battery drain going on. They are just things for which I don't need updates.

Also, when I review the graph, it appears that the most serious drops in batter power occur whenever I DO hit the wireless via a manual refresh on e-mail or FB or any other web access system.

the "solution" I had was only temporary. It was great the 1st day, but later the "Android.." process usage started going up, and it varies but it's not better than it was. One of my phones has email sync on, the other one doesn't - this makes no difference.

In the battery usage tab, does it still say Android OS for you? Or is it now Display as the primary battery usage.

After reading this thread, I'm so glad I didn't upgrade to 2.3.6. Overnight, I lose about 2-3% in 7-8 hours. Battery goes almost 2 days with normal use. Compared to almost always looking for an electric outlet when with the Captivate this is a breath of fresh air. If I was having battery issues, I'd defintiely be looking at an extended battery

Decided after reading much of the thread to turn my WiFi off with the exception of updates or getting apps. After switching off wifi, I'm seeing that battery drain is less. Only lost about 3% overnight, with data turned off while the screen is off.
Thinking about reverting to 2.3.4(?). Haven't decided yet.

Been reading this section and wondering - what about Widget Locker? Could it be pulling alot of batter power when the phone is in sleep/lock mode?

I have used it since I got the phone and decided to try without it and see what happens.

Nope I dont use it. and I have the problem.
I dont think it comes down to a particular app considering how many people are faced with the issue. It seems more like a core service.

I would be interested in hearing if anyone is on 2.3.6 and experiencing "Good" battery life without resorting to things like juice defender, etc.

My batter breakdown shows my display is what sucks the power - like over 80%! Not sure why as I don't use live wallpapers or even have alot of widgets - only have 4 and they are ones I need re: email, text, etc.

I got my GS2 last weekend and downloaded the 2.3.6 update, but didn't install it. I wanted to see what it was all about first. Thanks to you guys, I was able to delete it from my phone before it auto-installed.

This is what I did to test out what is sucking the juice:

-turned off wifi
-deleted Widget Locker
-did not use Bluetooth on commute into work
-did not check email on phone at all
-texted maybe 5 times at the most
-no phone calls made or rec'd

Unplugged from charging at 7am this morning. It is now 1055am and phone is at 77% :(

So annoying.

Display, typically. When I have the display set up on auto brightness, the percentages are about the same for each.

Generally, I have wireless turned off and all auto updates turned off for e-mail, news services, etc. etc. If you have to have them on, then set the time for updates as long as you can stand.

I took my phone to the shop today (yesterday actually)... They replaced my battery, and... so far, the new one seems to be working a lot better than the one the phone came with...

Just FYI...;)

That is more than likely a fluke. I find the only thing that works for me is to reset my phone every day when I take it off the charger. When they replaced your battery they reset your phone, so you are probably benefiting from that and not the new battery.

mine just seems to get worse every day. I can't believe they haven't addressed this. Well, yes I can.. but it's beyond disappointing. I used to get a good 20-26 hours. Now I'm luckily if it doesn't start battery low warnings in 12hrs.

Guys, see my post #97 here. I reverted to 2.3.4 soon after "upgrading" to 2.3.6 and my battery life has been fine ever since! The instructions may look a bit complicated, but they are not and they are easy to follow. Why turn off your wifi if you can revert to 2.3.4 and keep it on all the time, like I do? All my apps and settings were preserved during the rollback process. Note that I never rooted my phone, had a stock 2.3.4 that came with it from AT&T.

If it's too much trouble to go to my post #97, here is a link with instructions on the rollback process (just make sure to stop before step 8, do NOT do factory reset, it's not necessary and will erase all your apps and settings):

I777 here. Did OTA upgrade to UCKK6 right after getting the phone. Had the battery drain issue, was a lot worse at work than at home when on Wi-Fi, possibly more proof of the "dirty network" issue? Anyway, I followed the "how to return your phone to the store for warranty purposes" guide over on XDA to return my phone to UCKH7. Battery drain issue has thankfully gone away.

I haven't seen the AP Mobile Widget problems others have had on UCKH7. In fact, it doesn't show up under my list of running services, and it hasn't effected my data usage at all. How does this issue manifest itself for others? I seem to have dodged the AP Mobile issue somehow.

Also, I don't see a need to stop the OTA updater service from running, because it hasn't prompted me to update to the newer version. Does it automatically update without asking you? Or simply keep prompting you?

I've been back on UCKH7 for about a week now, everything's back to normal. On UCKK6 I could almost watch the battery life indicator slowly drain away.

The updater wont run unless you go into settings and check for an update. When it finds the 2.3.6 update it will let you postpone it three times but will then try and force you to upgrade unless you kill the service and then clear its data.
