Ok, I retract my comments about thickness. After watching the video uploaded around WMC, thickness will not really be an issue. Unless it has changed since then, it should be fine. Suprised on the red buttons however...

I'm not listening to you.

I think we need 50 more posts arguing about shadows, chins and camera angles even though the guy that took the photos said it was much thinner than his phone. Then there can be 40 more posts about how that is cluttering up the thread.

On a side note(or actually on topic, I called VZW to activate an Eris for my wife last night(got a new one for $190 on Craig's list). When we were done the VZW person asked if there was anything else she could help me with so I asked when the Incredible was coming out. Of course she said they were releasing many new devices by the end of the year, and didn't have a date for the Incredible at this time. She didn't know much, but she definitely knew the name of the phone. Pretty much the same story everyone else is getting from this level of VZW employee.

I highly doubt it will be released this month.... there is an official announcement for these phones which are coming April 1 but no official announcement for a phone that is supposedly coming this month? It just doesn't make sense. Usually it seems like we have a month turnaround time after announcements are made....

Keep in mind that the Desire and Legend are for the world market because they are GSM. The Incredible is seemingly only a Verizon device. With the the Droid, Verizon started advertising mid october, announced it at the end of october, and released it for sale in the first week of november. We haven't seen advertising, but that could be because they don't have another 8 billion to spend lol...but an announcement on the 23rd and launch early april is a possibility

I had a thought regarding the RAM (everyone's favorite subject lol). Typically, phones are market to a specific sector of the market. Your high end phones (Droid), low end knock-offs (Devour), trendy phones (LG's...anything really), etc. All the specs on this phone seem to indicate a high end phone, excluding the rumored RAM. Short of HTC utterly nerfing an otherwise high-end device, it seems likely that this isn't an accurate number for the final product.
I'm starting to wonder given the smallish battery that was reported in the FCC filing for the Incredible (wasn't it not all that much larger than the Eris'?) if in fact this won't be the final spec for the phone. I'm thinking that the reason they underclocked the processor and appear to be equipping it with the same amount of RAM as the Eris is to preserve battery life.

However if that's the case then why have the dual flash for the camera? A single flash alone eats up chunks of battery power when used, let alone two. So it seems bassakwards from that standpoint.

I dunno, but I suspect as was just mentioned earlier that we won't be getting much more information on this phone for quite possibly a while given the problems that have been reported with the touchscreen and Apple's lawsuit. Since that lawsuit issued it's remarkable how "hush, hush" everything has become on all HTC phones running Sense and Android, not just the incredible. Not good for those, like me, who have been waiting since early November for some derivative of this phone to finally be released. I may have to upgrade to the new BB Tour-2 if this keeps up.

No problem.

I agree there is nothing we can get from now until launch that isn't an official spec list with no real surprises or a release date.

In regards to ram read this link (which looks like wonderbread got yelled at):
Android 2.1 limited to 256MB SDRAM? - xda-developers

The amount of ram that Dev reported could have been available ram, which all non rooted and kernel updated phones only have 256MB ram available. So it very well could have been on the device he had (and we get) just no one can play with it until the kernel is updated.

In regards to camera sensor. I don't think it matters if we get 5 or 8. I doubt they will upgrade the rest of the optics and innards. The only thing I know about the rest of a camera is that it is more important than the sensor and is usual filled with cheap parts on a phone.

Wow. I knew this, yet didn't realize that could well be the case. I feel like an idiot now. I fail.

Actually it does make sense. The link I used is for Amazon.uk, not HTC. The Incredible will not be sold through Amazon or any other channel other then Verizon. Verizon is notorious for keeping a tight lid on things (again the Eris was announced a whopping 24 hours before it went on sale, the Droid 1 week). You might be right and it won't launch on or before April 1. But a lack of an announcement by Verizon doesn't mean much of anything with their track record.
My main point was more along the lines of the multi touch issues must have been worked out if the Desire has the same screen as the N1 and Incredible.

Exactly! That's what I got out of your post. If that was the main thing, then common sense leads you to number 2. which would be it could launch end of this month. Good post.

Ok guys take this for what it's worth:

My company also develops apps for Mobile phones so I decided to inquire about it with some of our developers here. It turns out we have it. I didn't get a chance to look at it physically as it's with one of our other employees at the moment. I asked if he knew about the RAM issue and he said that he recalled it had 256 RAM. After I told him that was a disappointment, he stated that is was no big deal as most of the testing phones he's worked with often came with lower RAM than what is actually released. So that made me feel a little better. And yes, the back is Fire Engine RED.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess only time will tell now.

WHY, VERIZON, WHY? AT&T is getting the sexy Desire and we get this the HTC Ridiculous......I think this thing looks like crap. I hope they sell the Nexus One in stores. I have never experienced Sense, so I won't miss it. I just don't want a phone that looks like that cheap ass mess. Once again, I am hoping this is only a test phone or one of two designs.

My two cents on the Incredulous....it still beats the Eris that I almost bought.

If it ends up with a faster processer, similar RAM and better camera with the large screen, then it's still a win for me. I liked the Eris, but my large fingers couldn't use the keyboard without many, many mistakes. Hopefully, the larger screen will help.

+1. So Kappy and I dont sound crazy, thinking that the mutlitouch issues are smoothed out already. On this subject, Throwing fuel on the Nexus One and Motorola Droid multitouch fire | Android Central - So it seems like it could just possibly be how the application is designed.

The N1's multi touch is so messed up.. here's more proof: Throwing fuel on the Nexus One and Motorola Droid multitouch fire | Android Central

So? I can see the the HTC Incredible has to be on hold to get the kinks out. Not small kinks, big ones!

The article says there was a bug in the first multitouch test app. There is a video that compares both apps on the Droid and N1. Check out the video to see what I mean. Thus, as long as the app is designed in a certain way, multitouch functions better/less effectively.

The second app has mirror images of the lines so you can't actually tell where it perceives your fingers to be. Also, both apps runs more slowly on the nexus 1.

All these things: appearance, multitouch, lack of specs, cloak and dagger, ect. is really starting to make me want to just get it over with and buy a Droid. Right now, I don't see the Incredible being anything but a gimmick with gimmicky shape and color. I'm starting to feel like all of the other HTC phones coming soon to other carriers are much better that this phone. I cannot believe that this phone is in anyway a variant of the Desire.

LOL - Someone talk me out of it before I do something I'll regret.

Well it does come down to the hardware I think. IF the Desire has the same screen as the N1 and Incredible and IF all three share the same touch sensor and IF HTC decided not the release the Desire before its time then yes the problem should be solved and it might even be a case of firmware being installed on the Incred and Desire and just needs to get on the N1's which will probably require a downloadable patch (as some are on Tmo and some on AT&T).
Perhaps the original app designer screwed something up like the resolution difference between the Droid and N1.

Been there, done that. DON'T DO IT! Seriously if you really like Sense you'll be trying to make your Droid like it. Thats what I did and led to my returning the Droid (after buying the docks for $35). The 3 home panels won't work for you so you'll try something else and it will crash and burn more often then a 50 year old crack whore with a 30 year addiction. Sure I didn't try everything, but the 2.1 launcher from Droid-life sucked as did Home++. Yes they start right back up but seriously, force close after force close is just too annoying.

Yay my first post! I have been pondering on just getting a droid too. It's only $49 upgrade through amazonwireless right now. I have been waiting on pricing information for the nexus and incredible to appear. That will have a big impact on my decision.

I can't really address the appearance (which I'm okay with/kinda-maybe like), but I think we have a decent chance of seeing 512 ram. There is no way they will ship this phone with a known multi-touch problem unless the fix is coming out within a week. You've waited this long; at least wait and see it before you buy a droid.

So in the original article from androidandme.com they have a quote from a google engineer:

“Sorry I meant exactly what I said: this is how the touch screen hardware on the Nexus One works (which is essentially the same screen as on the G1 and myTouch). The Droid has a sensor from a different manufacturer, with different behavior. Other phones will likewise have different sensors.”

She mentions both screens and sensors being the issue. Now, are the screens and sensors integrated into the same part? or two different parts that can be swapped out individually?

Oh my god! That was FANTASTIC! Freaking hilarious!

Calm down, start breathin' lol. Honestly man, just wait until both the N1 and Incredible are released. It seems like what we are both looking for in our next phone is very similar. Wait to see if the N1 is in store and if the Incredible turns out to be what we want. AT LEAST WAIT FOR THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCMENT. Then you will know. If I don't like the Incredible and the N1 is not in-store and cannot be serviced or supported in-store then I'll most likely get an Eris (by that time it should be officially updated to 2.0 or 2.1). But I am at least going to give myself the satisfaction of waiting. I always rush into getting new things then I end up effing it up. Patience is a virtue my friend!
