I know....I'm just saying "soon" doesn't meen days or weeks away. Soon is more like "planned" rather than a certain time frame.
Yes, but when the timeframe is given, the word "soon" is irrelevant. And people typically don't use "soon" for something that's going to occur 10 years later, so my guess is with those two high end phones will make their faces at CTIA since that makes the most sense and falls under the category of "soon" .. and with the way Palm is going, I'm not sure they can push another phone without trying to milk their current devices (which have just recently been added to VZW) first. It would not make business sense for them to release another product when their previous two are doing so poor. I really hope it is indeed the Incredible.. although i'm not losing sleep over the rumored specs, more is always better!

I was in the VZW store today and had a very good conversation with the rep there. I asked about the N1 and the Incredible. Regarding the latter, he said that they have not received any info about it, though he had heard of the phone. Nothing new there, but he was at least pretty frank in just saying that no official information had come down the pipeline.

The bad news came when discussing the N1...he said it was "highly unlikely" that it would be out this month. It sounded like the multitouch hardware issues that we've all heard about are problematic enough to potentially delay the release. He said VZW didn't want to try and rush the phone out without working the bugs out, then have to deal with the backlash, returns, and support issues. They'd release any new phones only after they had worked out all the kinks they knew of. He wouldn't "officially" confirm that VZW was getting it, but several parts of the conversation included the words "when", not "if" it becomes available. But he did say that if I was needing a new phone soon (which I am), he definitely would NOT recommend waiting for the N1 on VZ. :( He also had not been told whether it would be available in-store or strictly through Google, or how the NE2 discounts would be applied, if it was the latter option.

At any rate, he didn't complete rule out the rumored 3/23 release, but it sounded like he knew enough about the hardware issues to be pessimistic...

Sorry to be the bearer of potentially bad news!

Granted I wasn't there for the conversation, so I don't know if they exclusively talked Android devices, but top tier devices doesn't necessarily mean only Android devices. I fully expect a new palm device to be announced at CTIA and WinMo will undoubtedly produce another device. So it's very possible that two top-tier devices would include something other than just Android handsets. But Montana Man might be able to clear this up.

We have been discussing damn near all of their devices - from present ones to upcoming ones. He had also said that there was a lot of dissension within the ranks of his superiors over not having picked up the Desire and having to watch their arch-rival get it instead. He did say that the two upcoming "upper end" devices are both Android, and he was told that at least one will be in direct competition with the Desire. So while this will surely raise more questions than it answers, if you read between the lines, the puzzle pieces are very slowly starting to come together for us.

Once again, thanks for the great inside info! We can only hope that it will match, or be superior, to the Desire!

Anytime pal... thanks for all of your great posts as well! Ya know - the more I think about it, the more I can't help but think that with a name like "Incredible" - you'd damn sure better not leave anything on the table when you roll it out to your 85 million customers!!!

By way of comparison, 85 million people is roughly the population of GERMANY!!!!!

Thank you for this response; the fact that he says "two upcoming 'upper end' devices [that] are both android" makes me think that the incredible wont be competing with the desire, and a different model will take that role. Something about the form factor and reddish back makes it seem not as professional and more leisure oriented, as opposed to business-like. I wish they had just gotten the desire: would be way easier!

EDIT: Reading other posts, something is supposed to happen on March 7th apparently? Well March 7th is the academy awards (oscars), could advertising on this day be their idea?

I believe that date was just bad info given by a BestBuy employee, who said that the Incredible would launch on that day (which obviously isn't true)

99 percent of those 85 million customers won't know if it is truly incredible or not. They will see the name and assume they are not being lied to and that it is truly amazing. If it has 256MB ram and a 5MP camera and is totally mediocre it won't matter. The marketing ploy will appeal to the masses and they will be enamored with it.

Excellent point! No doubt! People are sheep... they expect to be herded and lead.

This is a take it for what you will post.

So a friend says he's talked to a guy that works for the production company that was hired to film the first verizon Iphone commercial

Hmmmm

But he did say that if I was needing a new phone soon (which I am), he definitely would NOT recommend waiting for the N1 on VZ. :(

My bet is the reason for that is squarely because Verizone employees work off commission, so getting that sale was on his mind at the time. But with what you were saying is true, could be more good news about the Nexus One possibly being in stores. I was just thinking the other day about how Verizon can be strict with their policies, and maybe the only way they'd allow for the N1 to sell for Verizon would be if they could carry it in the stores themselves. After all, wasn't lack of control over the iPhone a big reason we still don't see that on Verizon?

All the guys at my local Verizon "To be honest, I never even heard of it"

For those worried about the red backing.. the HTC Desire also had the "HTC Confidential" markings on the leaked pics and that phone got some last minute facelifts, so we very well could see a different backplate.

Has anybody tried searching verizon by the id number they assign products. The link for the HTC Eris is below PhoneID=5070. The Palm products is 5129 and 5130. I know we have some great minds on that might figure out how verizon assigns these product id to the phones.

Okay, guys and gals - let me throw this out there and you can file it in the "Take It or Leave It" category. This is for all of you who are like me and are on the fence over getting the Incredible or the Nexus One. It may sound as elementary as anything, but I PROMISE you that if you just try this, it'll begin to make sense as the days (and weeks) go on. So far it's working for me....

Here's what I want you to do - take out a plain sheet of paper (I am using a yellow, lined legal pad) and make 2 full-length columns, dividing the page in half vertically. At the top of one side, write Incredible and on the other side, write Nexus One. Now, draw a horizontal line across the middle of the page - you should now have 4 boxes. In the top 2 boxes (at the top of each box), write the word "PROS", and in the bottom two boxes, write "CONS." Keep this sheet of paper next to your computer at all times!

Now it should be very clear as to what you'll be doing. As you think of them or read about them, start writing down things about each phone that you see as either a "Pro" or a "Con." It's crucial that you jot down EVERY thought that you have, no matter how trite it may seem - be it the red back on the Incredible, or the trackball on the Nexus One - jot it down in one of the four boxes if it factors into your buying decision! There's NO rush to get each box full, and by the time these two phones are finally released, you'll now have a very thorough, very detailed list about what you like and dislike about each one.

This might sound silly, and may draw a few chuckles, but hey - I can promise you that by doing this, it'll give you better clarity in your final decision when it comes time.

Thanks. Your post prompted me to do my own trade. I uploaded it as a google spreadsheet. Much of the info on the Incredible is based on rumors and info on the Nexus is based on the GSM version. The categories are what are important to me and I took a first cut at the ranking in sheets 2 and 3. So far the Incredible comes out on top :D Anyhow, any input would be appreciated. Feel free to update the google doc online or download and use it as a base for your own trade. This is very very much a work in progress.

Or, for the more simplistically minded among us, brute force the crap out of it. Start pushing large ranges of numbers. That assumes, of course, there are unlisted URLs. Any history of this by VZW?

Few things here... (sorry, I can't keep up with you guys :D)

The reason I hesitate to follow this idea is that Google has never had any kind of presence outside of the internet. They don't advertise except for the internet. I feel like Google's intentions for the N1 were to help (read fund research) to create an iPhone competitor. Mission accomplished. Their money isn't in the hardware. It's in the OS and the google integrated services like gmail. If it can create buzz for android, they've succeeded in their mission. They're not a consumer goods business. They're an ad selling business which relies on the companies to buy ads to place in the services they provide. Why else would they give their sweet services for "free." This is why it doesn't matter to google which android device you buy as long as you buy an android device.

I think you made the point here. They've never had a presence outside the internet because they've never sold a physical product until now. I think the experiment with the T-Mobile Nexus One was an eye opener. Apple has made it pretty clear. You MUST have retail outlets. In the past decade, time and time again it has been proven that you can't succeed internet-only. I mean, the little electronic outlets succeed on modest sales, and even they rely on places like Best Buy and the now defunct Circuit City. People like to try it before they buy it. I happen to think N1 sales are VERY important to Google and they were looking for better sales, even though it's inconsequential to their bottom line. They're supposed to be leading the way with an unfragmented version of Android. Modest sales won't help this cause.

For the Omnia II they said soon in July 2009, and the phone didn't come till Jan. 2010.

N1 Coming soon Jan. 5th.....not out till at the soonest March 23rd, so soon has a very subjective definition.

For a long time I was part of the Omnia II thread that dwarfed everything else on Verizon's own forum. In early August, Samsung put up a sillhouette of the phone with a "coming soon to Verizon Wireless" on their website. The phone was released by Verizon on Dec 2, 2009 but it's worthy to note that it went through a second FCC approval in Oct/Nov (I forgot when). There was a fundamental problem with the phone in testing that delayed things and it was enough of a hardware change to void the initial approval from the end of June.

I was in the VZW store today and had a very good conversation with the rep there. I asked about the N1 and the Incredible. Regarding the latter, he said that they have not received any info about it, though he had heard of the phone. I've heard people relay this line from a sales rep time and time again. They don't know anything solid until just before release and their job is to push the current line-up. Some guy was told something like this on a Monday of the week when the Droid was released on a Friday. I've never seen someone say a rep told them to "wait".
