(VZW) galaxy nexus 4.0.5 unofficial

I feel you. This update will determine if I dump this phone for something else. I love the phone and hate the idea of losing ICS. But I hate the "not connected to mobile network" message more. And (again) I'm in a strong 4G market.

I definitely understand your frustration, connectivity should always be #1 on a phone.

I feel your pain. I think it will improve reception for sure, though it might vary with location or device.

Non-Nexus Samsung phones like their Touchwiz phones GSII, Note seem to do better on signal reception. I think Google is at least partially responsible for Nexus radio issue. So hopefully they fix it in updates.

And don't forget that Jelly Bean is rumored to be released this year for the Android tablets. << Not sure how this will play out for the Android cells.

So I see we have a very short list of fixes supposedly included in this update. Of course these can change, and I know this. I am most interested in a fix for my damn phone randomly powering down and requiring me to pull the battery to power it back on. Incredibly annoying bug that wasn't initially present and has gotten worse recently. Otherwise, still happy with my SGN.

Have you seen a changelog somewhere? Wondering if I am missing something...

To quote Android software engineer Jean-Baptiste Queru

The list of 698 individual changes since IML76K is too long to list here (but they can be counted with a simple script) ;-) My limited and remote understanding is that this is more on the "tweak and polish" side of things, but I could be wrong.

I'm guessing its more than a short list of fixes, but that short list probably only notes the most critical/well known bugs.

I had the same problem as you, when I was using the VZ extended battery. I pulled that out and put the stock back in, and it doesn't power down. I then put the extended back in and then it started shutting down again. I wonder if it is a contact problem, where the battery contacts the phone, or not.

Do you have the extended battery installed?

I hope, hope, hope, hope, HOPE whatever the next update is (don't care about the number at this point) that it fixes the one-way audio issues. All other problems with this phone is totally liveable except for that. I had it happen again today. Had to reboot the stupid phone to make a phone call. I worry about leaving messages on people's voicemail.... do all they hear is, "Hi <person>, this is Lucky Armpit. I hop*bzzz* *grrrrr* *CRACKLE* ---------------------silence---------------------*click*"?

I'd have that back at VZW and get a replacement....

This is my only phone also, I'd try a factory reset if that didn't completely resolve the issue the phone would go back...

This made me LOL so much that I got strange looks from my office-mates. Thank you. :D

Tried that - went through three replacements and didn't keep them long enough to see if the audio issues were fixed (all had display issues). I hate to admit this - and I said it in another thread, somewhere - that I might have to dump the Galaxy Nexus for a RAZR Maxx (what Verizon offered me). This is a PHONE and it needs to function as one. The one-way audio has been a lot worse lately.

I was told be a Verizon rep, over a phone call, that this issue was supposed to be fixed with the next update....4.0.5.....Hope she was right.....

Please be right...

Yeah, I was told the same thing by the last rep I spoke to... maybe a month ago now? The Intertubes are calling it an "audio reboot issue" and we, the community, are calling it the "one-way audio issue". I sure hope they are the same thing...

Since Verizon told me that the update was being released at the 'end of the month' last month.. I called them and now they have no idea.

What they want to do is give me another device BESIDES a nexus.
Since I can't make calls half the time as it is I may be leaving the nexus party and getting back on the HTC bandwagon via a rezound or something.

I don't think I can take it anymore....

I find it suspicious that now they just want me off this device and are willing to give me a new rezound. (not a refurb, so they say)

I was told that they are offering alternatives for people with nexus devices.
I wonder why all of a sudden....
Last time I called they refused to give me another device and now policy has changed?

that is strange servant, who knows why, maybe they regret getting the nexus device on their network, and are unhappy with google. makes me wonder though, they are trying to push people to 4G phones, but over half the country doesnt even have 4G, but yet they want you on 4G phones, so i have seen where they are throttling 3G phone users and saying they need to upgradeto a 4G LTE device.

They are actually giving me time to consider this offer of theirs.
Personally I like the Nexus and stock Android over sense.
I do however need it to make and receive calls.

When I asked the representative why they were offering me another device where I was told previously that the only thing I would get is refurbs of the same device it was due to a 'change in policy'.

What I wonder is if they cannot fix this problem and would rather just get
people other devices like the rezound that 'just work'.
My wife has a rezound and it works flawlessly for her and I really do think it's a solid device.

Is it worth giving up my nexus for....... I have to think that one over.
I have to decide by tomorrow because they will be calling me back.
I have this time to 'look over' which device I want to replace my nexus with.

If they're pushing the Rezound it might be because Verizon just dropped the subsidized price to $49.99, so unless they also refund the difference its sort of like you're getting ripped off. Especially if the Rezound was only $199 to begin with. Unless they can refund you for the Nexus, and then let you buy the Rezound at the new subsidized price.

Keep us posted what you decide. I'm in the same boat as you. I love so much about this device, but I'm growing more and more impatient with my reception issues. I actually tried to get VZW to swap my GNex for a Maxx shortly after it was released, butit was well past my return window. Since this is my second GNex with the identical problems, it's either poor coverage near my office or bad hardware/software. Google/Samsung/VZW needs to step up!

I've even considered trying to root/rom my phone, which I've never done.. I've been seeing a lot of people expressing frustration over this issue. Just a couple of weeks ago I was told very few people (here) were having reception issues. That just doesn't seem accurate.

Problem is, now I want to see if there will be a Maxx like device with an HD screen around the corner.

This is an angle I never thought of.
When they call me back I will bring this very issue up.
I paid a premium price for a premium device after all.
I am willing to bet they tell me to pound sand.

Now that I thought about my conversation with them about this I wonder if it was my comment about my inability to make calls and 'what if there was an emergency' and nobody could hear me.

I may have pushed that button inadvertently.
It is still a valid point, over half the calls I make are either distorted or muted - they can't hear me or I can't hear them.

My point to them is simple.... Google told me they (Verizon) had the update and have not released it.
I want this update if it's going to fix my problem.

I have been having the one-way audio/poor signal/random reboots issues since December. I bit the bullet yesterday, unlocked the bootloader and put the liquid rom on my phone. Had a couple scary moments, but so far all is well - no reboots and the few calls I made yesterday were fine, will see if the good times last!

Problem is, now I want to see if there will be a Maxx like device with an HD screen around the corner.

Supposedly there is a phone EXACTLY like that coming out called the Droid Fighter from Motorola - it will, I suspect, be bloatware'd out the wazoo however!
