Root Sprint update LS855ZVC kills root. Solutions?

We had the same problem with ZVC Update and Root on the Esteems. Devs here should take a peak at our ZVC Root and maybe even the ZVD Root package that we have. Just trying to help.

As others have confirmed

http://androidforums.com/marquee-all-things-root/510164-root-cwm-lg-marquee-aio-root-recovery.html

the ZVC update kills root, then prevents rooting using the same method.

Anybody with a workaround?

To be clear, you have installed the update and you can confirm it kills root? I'm just asking because in the thread you linked to, nuskfc doesn't seem to have first hand knowledge of this being case as he's commenting on someone that posted about a root problem before the update was even released.

I've been hunting around for posts and haven't seen anyone confirm that they have the update yet, so I didn't think any root issue was determined yet.

Weird thing happened the other day. I went to use titanium backup it said no root. Then all of my other root applications, all said the same thing. Got home tried running esteem root method and it didn't work. Then I flashed a backup and all had been ok sense.

I've been purposely trying to get this update by manually checking for updates just for confirmation..no luck for me so far. The Sprint Community blog mentioned it could take up to 10 days to push to all devices, and it's completely random, so I'm still waiting.

Sprint version LS855ZV9 right now

I can confirm my rooted options are no longer available after the update and I am unable to root again.

I do not have a restore set up

I've downloaded it. It's stored in /cache on the phone. If you have upgraded already you may be able to downgrade using the cab file found in the optimus black section on xda. Then wipe data and root.

Hi guys, tonight I received a notification on my Sprint LG Marquee with the following message "System update available". The update is the same update mentioned in this thread. My phone is rooted so I don't want to update it for fear of not being able to root it again, as mentioned by a few people in this thread. I haven't had the chance to install CWM yet; should I install CWM and backup my current ROM before doing this update? The update changelog said it fixes call lockups (I have been getting a few of those recently while talking), security updates, and other improvements. I'm not going to do the update until I can be sure I can root the phone again. Here's the update download I retrieved from the /cache directory:

Here's more info on the update: Sprint LG Marquee updated with call lock-up bug fix | Android Central

If someone can figure out which part of the update file is the security updates, that will be cool; we can remove the security updates that prevent the rooting and keep the rest of the goodie updates.

From one of the posters:

The Marquee is receiving a Software update. The new update (Ver ZVC) will address the following items.

Enhancements
Google security patch
Pre-loaded app updates

Performance improvements
WiFi
Touch screen
To prepare for the update, Make sure that you:

Keep the battery charged as much as possible, or leave it on a charger. Don't start the update if your Battery is low! A low battery could drain completely before the update is complete and damage your phone.
Don't try to use phone during the update! The Phone will not be usable during the duration of the update.
Leave the phone alone while it's updating! Moving the phone could cause it to loose its signal and cause the update to fail, which could damage your phone's software.
The update is being delivered straight to your phone sometime during the next few days... The phone should pompt you when the update is ready. If the update comes at a bad time, or your battery isn't charged, you can decline the update and then manually update your phone at a better time. Later you can request your update without waiting, when it's convenient for you. To manually get the update, do the following.

From the Home Screen, press the Menu Button.
Select Settings, and then Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and select "About Phone"
At the top of the About Phone window, select "System Update"
From the System Update window, choose "Update LG Software"
The phone should start updating. The process will take at least 25 minutes and could be substantionaly longer, depending on your Internet Connection Speed.
The update should be available to update your phone for the next two weeks. Around the 11th of April, it will be removed from the server.

OK, finally installed CWM and am currently backing up my existing ROM. Any chance the new system update LS855ZVC will wipe out CWM recovery if I do an update? I'm happy I got CWM installed... I really want to see what improvements the new update provides.

just looked through that zip and it looks like this update removes carrier IQ

I also received a notification on my Sprint LG Marquee with the following message "System update available", but it gave me a choice to install later.

I am rooted & have CWM installed. The zip is in my cache folder but I can't seem to get the update to work.

When I go into about phone/system updates/update LG software it says my system is up to date but it is still showing version LS855ZV9

Any ideas??

I was notified that the update needs the phone to reboot to install. So I rebooted the phone and I saw the screen you see when you do factory reset. It didn't seem to take very long and the next thing I saw was CWM screen and I rebooted. I don't think the update took since I see this under about phone software version: ls855zv9
Any ideas why it didn't work? Or did it work and I still have root? Root checker says ok??

No idea, it should have changed. I doubt it worked in your case, CWM or some other software is preventing you from updating. Might want to close everything out before you update.

Do you notice any performance improvements? For me personally, this update make the UI flow much smoother. Fantastic update, except for the rooting part.

How do I do the update manually? I see the file not sure how to install it.

If it worked your SW Version in About Phone will say LS855ZVC. You could try LGs mobile support tool. It found the update and installed it with no problems, took about 20 mins. It will overwrite your recovery image and root so be prepared for no CWM or root for the time being.

so this update removes the cwm image as well as root?? sik00, was your backup still there & were you able to load it back onto your phone after the update??

is this confirmed 100%??

Yes, it will remove the CWM image and replace it with the stock recovery. My backups are all still there on my sdcard, the only problem being I have no CWM anymore, so I can't try a restore.

I have tried re-rooting/re-CWMing using every available method out there to date, including the new LG Esteem ZVC updated root(http://androidforums.com/esteem-all-things-root/500491-root-lg-esteem-zvc.html), with no success yet.
