Root LG Optimus V Freezing

Encerspay

Android Enthusiast
I have had the LG Optimus V since around early November, and it's been a rather good phone for the $99 paid, without contract, and the low monthly fees from Virgin Mobile.
However, with only 31 apps installed (that's actually less than you'd think), one of them being "One Touch Optimize" which constantly terminates processes and clears the cache in all my apps, my phone still freezes on an average of 10-15 times, daily.
What are some solutions to stop this freezing issue?
The Optimus V is Stock ROM rooted, and the freezing occurred even before I rooted the phone.
Thanks in advance.

Try Over Clocking your phone to: Min: 480 and Max: 787

Also it could be your battery I had close to the same issue before I bought an extended battery.

Also try deleting all of your apps on your phone (except the important ones, you normally can't delete them anyways.) Check and make sure you aren't using all of your phone storage, then check your sd card storage.

Also app killers aren't really necessary with Android anymore as you phone will automagically kill apps that it doesn't need to be running when it gets short on processing power. In fact they might give you more trouble than it's worth.

Also if none of this stuff works, could just all be down to your phone, there is such thing as getting a bad phone, though extremely rare, you might just be better off getting a new one, though hard if you rooted your phone, hopefully you paid for insurance...

Try downloading a terminal emulator from the market and type in:

su (hit the enter key)
fix_permissions (hit the enter key)

If after you type in su and you hit the enter key Superuser asks for permission, click ok. To get the keyboard back: Hit the menu key and select toggle soft keyboard.

The OP won't be able to OC on the stock rom.

Sadly no. The kernel needs to support overclocking, and have the necessary governors compiled in. It's possible to use a kernel like bobzhome or xionia with the stock Rom, I did for months before I found BACKside. If his phone is stock rooted, it won't be able to OC unless he flashes a custom kernel.

Thanks for all the tips guys. And the reason I have my phone rooted but it still remains on the Stock ROM is because I have tried so many ROMS/kernels/recoveries and NONE of them work. Ever. Which is frustrating. And, with all my apps just not being touched, I usually have around 20 megs of free space. Sometimes I clear data on some apps (ex: Skype or FB or Browser) and that gets me around 25. However all of the apps I install are on the SD Card because of a Rooted App. And I've never heard of a Task Killer app to be a problem. What would be wrong with it?
Thanks in advance.

Tasks killers are very bad for the newer android operating systems. They where a must for the older android OS's, but have a tendency to mess up the newer OS's. It has to do with how the newer OS's are designed.
Go to applications/running apps see which apps are running(with out the task killer installed). Right them down, then go to /about phone/battery usage. If any of the running apps are really running and not just waiting in the background(waiting in the background is what there supposed to do) then you will see them in the battery usage section.
You might find that you really don't even have any apps running(there just waiting in the background). Is there really a need for a task killer if there are no apps using up the battery juice (actually running)?
Link2SD is they way to go. I finally broke done and had to buy a 16GB uSD card(the 8GB one was getting to full). I now have 158 downloaded apps and still have 132.45MB of space available. You will have to make a 1-2GB partition for Link2SD to work, which means the stock SD card will not do the job.
Partitioning the SD card can be done on the PC (I would suggest this if you like the stock ROM as you can format the card and partition to FAT32) or in a recovery(this will format the partition to Ext.3) which will not allow you to use it with the stock ROM and some of the Froyo ROM's. I would suggest formatting the SD card and partition to FAT32 as you can use this with anything. Formatting the uSD card was super simple and partitioning was as well.
For all the info you could need on Link2SD go here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/364833-link2sd-you-tutorial.html and here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/495101-link2sd-tutorial-fresh-wipe.html

Whoa... so, I can use Link2SD on Stock ROM? And, please do tell me more on pica07remix kernel, because I seriously need to get my phone successfully into Recovery Mode and flash a Custom ROM to Overclock. That's my ultimate goal.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can use Link2SD with stock ROM. Stock ROM can't load scripts from init.d, can it?

As long as you are rooted, you can use link 2 sd on stock. I know, I have done it. You can't use it if your not rooted however.

It is also possible to overclock on stock as well.
However, In order to overclock; you must be on a custom kernal.

And by the time you do all this like I have, just get over the fear and get backside!! =]

It took me awhile, but I finally made the switch and glad I did.

I know you said you were having issues installing roms though, so for that, I leave you to AndyOpie150

Are you sure? With stock kernel? I remember reading stock ROM can't load init.d scripts.
You made me curios.
I gonna test this tomorrow.

Just loaded my 2.2.1 stock rooted ROM and no any chance Link2SD will work. Stock Rom doesn't even have init.d folder and doesn't recognize ext partition at all. Tried all ext2/3/4 types. You are officially proven wrong.:)

Oh, trust me, I've wanted Backside for quite a while now. But for the life of me I just could not get that phone into Recovery Mode. Ah, makes me frustrated.

Okay, so now, my ultimate goal is to run Link2SD and Overclock on my Optimus V, which currently is rooted (Gingerbread, I think) and has Stock ROM. Any help with that would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

How Both my sister and my phone before i got backside worked with link 2 sd and gave me and her tons more memory. Do I need to upload a video of my sisters phone? She is still stock, rooted, using link 2 sd. She is not running any custom recovery or kernel. Just stock rooted.

Not attempting to argue, But I and my sister were/are def. using link 2 sd stock rooted.

Also, did you try formatting both partitions as fat 32? Like the description:
"You should have two partitions on SD card and both should be primary.
The first FAT partition is your standard SD card storage. The second partition is used for application files and can be ext2, ext3, ext4 or FAT32.
Some phones lack the ext2, ext3 or ext4 file system support and you may get mount errors like "no such device", "invalid argument". These phones need ext2.ko or ext3.ko modules and even some additional modules to be able to mount. Using FAT32 on the second partition will eleminate such problems, because FAT32 is supported on all phones."

Also @ nijel

You stated you "Tried all ext2/3/4 types" but did you try fat 32 for both partitions?

Most Stock roms will not support Linux ext file systems.

Also @ Encerspay:

If you are stock, you are not running gingerbread, unless you have the optimus slider.
That is the only optimus that has gingerbread (android 2.3) stock. You are ether running android 2.2.1 or android 2.2.2

Ether way you are still running froyo if you own a optimus v. Unless of course you get a custom rom on your phone.

Seeing as how you bought it new I am assuming, it is very strange you cannot get into recovery...
My guess is when you got it the phone was badly flashed, kinda like my Toshiba thrive when I first bought it from best buy. I got a lemon with a bad stock flash. Had to exchange it.

Please refer all inquires into Link2SD to the experts MacFett and Benslgdroid. MacFett was rooted with the Stock ROM when he made the Link2SD tutorial.
You can't use ext.2, 3, or 4 with most of the Froyo ROM's either but it will work with FAT32.

With all CWMod recovery's the selection button is the camera hard key. You can still use the hard keys on the Touch Screen Recovery as well.
With the Xionia recovery the selection button can be either the home key or the menu key. If you hit one and it causes the screen to go black, then just hit it again and use the other one.

Sorry, you have officially been proven wrong :)

Sorry haha I had too.
