Help Help needed on changing from 'KOR' to 'UK' firmware setting on Samsung S2 I9100

Hello

I'm currently on Orange UK and after trying to update my phone via kies from the current installed GB 2.3.5 I9100 BVKJ4 rom I have to any possible updates.

I know GB 2.3.6 exists but kies refuses to update when I connect my phone, so there's no chance of an ICS 4.0.3 update either!

Now from doing some research it seems updates are only applicable if you have the correct firmware country setting from the multi CSC file loaded onto your phone, which kies recognizes.

On checking my firmware country settings the CSC file by typing *#272*Device IMEI# I can only see - 'KOR' which tells me this is 'Korea' where Samsung are located.

It seems to be a SINGLE setting only!

I know if I install a MULTI CSC file via odin into the phone I can change the setting from 'KOR' to 'XEU' for example or any other country option available.

I believe the 'XEU' firmware setting in the csc is meant for the UK and that the 'XEU' setting is the latest one out ?

So maybe If I change to the latest firmware 'XEU' file, kies might recognise an update for my phone?

So where can I download the multi csc file that will work with my current Orange BVJK4 rom?

I already have these CSC multi files:

HOME-MULTI-OXAKH3
MULTI-OXAKH3
MULTI-OXAK13
MULTI-OXAALPH

Would any of these work or do I need another?

I know that if I do install a new CSC file it resets my phone.

So what is the very latest multi CSC file that includes a UK firmware setting such as 'XEU' or above and that is SAFE to use on my current phone as it is on a Orange ROM ?

Do you need a different multi CSC file for each version of operating system?

ie - GB 2.3.3 will have its own, GB 2.3.4 will have its own and so on..

Do I need (if if exists) a MULTI version of Orange UK ORAKJ4 CSC

Or whats the safest and nearest CSC I can use?

Many thanks in advance :D

Pretty sure the latest XEU unbranded is only 2.3.4 or .5. If I were you I would just wait a few days/weeks (hopefully) till the unbranded UK release of ICS comes out, and then do your full wipe and CSC change then

Worked too!

Just using the 'CSC_XEU_I9100XEUKH2.tar.md5' file

Now set to XEU not KOR !

I just followed these instructions:

  • Open the included Odin
  • Put your device in Recovery MODE (Home + Volume up + Power)
  • Wipe Data/Factory reset
  • Wipe Cache
  • Take Out Your battery & put it back in
  • Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
  • Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
  • Then finally click START!

However upon connecting the phone to the latest version of kies.

Kies recognises it STILL AS 'KOR' doh

*#272*Device IMEI# and the phone says 'XEU'

Doesn't make sense ??

Any ideas ??

Looks like there's a KOR tag in the rest of the installed package on the phone

What actually gets rid of it, besides a full wipe ?

Right to change 'KOR' to 'XEU' the multi CSC file has to be from the same version of the operating system installed on the phone.

I used the multi csc from the last known latest version of GB 2.3.5

Because that's what's installed on my phone Gingerbread v 2.3.5

XWKJ3

Firmware info
PDA:XWKJ3
PHONE: XXKI4
Date: 25/10/2011
Android 2.3.5

XEN (Netherlands)

Now kies recognises the phone as being 'XEU'

But still no updates - not even to GB 2.3.6 !!

But still no updates - not even to GB 2.3.6 !!

You won't get any updates via Kies now because your handset is Orange-branded (ORA CSC) and therefore the deviceID won't match the altered CSC (XEU).

Incidently, the latest Orange firmware version is 2.3.5 (BVKJ4). That's why you weren't notified of an update previously - there isn't one.

I think having read so many different testimonies from other samsung users about how Kies and the slow release of updates for the S2.

Prompted me to try and find out for myself.

I actually installed various different ROMS last night and connected to kies to see if any of them would update, and not one of them did!!

I used a CPW UK 2.3. - CPW UK 2.3.4 - Unbranded 2.3.6 - all roms were very unstable and buggy to say the least.

So I put BVJK4 ORA 2.3.5 back on and rooted it - and I will probably keep it on as it does the job.

The only thing I may have to do is put the 'KOR' csc setting back to, if as you advise get any recognition from Kies for any future updates.

I checked all the available firmware packages from:

Orange Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 Official Firmware Updates and Stock ROMs ~ Android ROMS

Samsung Galaxy S2 Firmware Updates via Kies Official Releases compiled list ~ Android ROMS

SamMobile Firmware Page

I have figured, if the package isn't on any of the links above then don't bother with them - although that's where I got the CPW UK 2.3.3 from .

Nice one I will give that a try.

At the minute I'm on XEU and there is no other option doing the IMEI trick to choose any other CSC country setting.

So the link you added will come in handy.

Either way I think when the time is right and Samsung get it together and start releasing updates faster, I will be able to update my phone via kies on either the 'XEU / KOR' setting anyway.

Why have samsung been so precise and slow to release updates for the SGS2 ?

There's been a slow dribble of ICS 4.0.3 releases for the past month or so, surely if they have got the bugs out of one countries GB /ICS rom, then why do all the other countries have to wait, surely the main rom image structure is the same for all countries SGS2??

I changed 'KOR' to 'XEU' via the IMEI trick / loading in another CSC file.

Now when I go to 'ADD a Samsung Account' via the Account and sync services.

It won't allow it!!

As I want to set up the 'Remote Tracking Feature' and you need a Samsung Account to do this.

I created my samsung accouint over the internet first and then logged in with my phone, give it a try.

I don't think you do, Samsung Dive works for me and I never signed into my samsung account. Though that does beg the question on how it works....

According to:

Android ROMS: Samsung Galaxy S2 Firmware Updates via Kies Official Releases compiled list

And

SamMobile Firmware Page

Orange updates are available.

2.3.6 or 4.0.3 ???

My phone still wont acknowledge it when trying to update via the
update phone settings option - NO UPGRADE AVAILABLE

Incidently what is the latest NON WIPE - UNBRANDED CARRIER - BLOATWARE FREE STABLE VERSION of ics 4.0.3 is available?

As ive unlocked my phone and going from Orange to 3, but want a rom as described above.

Cheers
