I'm in the sticks of NW PA! I agree with you 100%!

Do you know where Galeton is? They finally got a Verizon tower last June/July, and it was the longstanding last dead spot on Rte 6 in northern PA. I was seriously considering if AT&T was a viable alternative since I'm big on the HTC Desire, but I was disappointed to find the last 2 hours of my trip north would be EDGE and then GPRS roam (AT&T's website estimates a typical speed of 35kbps - DIAL UP speed ).

BTW, it's worth noting that regarding the Nexus One sales method and Verizon rigorous testing leading to delays, it's a two-way street. If Verizon isn't selling/supporting the Nexus One, they're not providing any quality control testing on the device nor are they holding up the launch. So if this is the case, and Google is intending to launch on the 23rd of March, then that's when it's launching. Only way the Nexus One is delayed (if it even would be) is if it was being sold directly by Verizon. I've seen both sides of both arguments floating around.

As for why the N1 isn't going to be released till the 23rd, I think that's a case of giving the Moto Droid and Eris their own life cycle. They would've had to give the Eris away if they brought out the N1 only a little after a month after the Eris was released. Now that they're had their time to live out their lives as a High End and Mid Tier Android phones they can bring in new phones, and the Moto Droid will move down to Mid-Tier, Eris will go to low-level/discontinued, and the Incredible will come in as their new High-End device.

I for one would be happy as it is right now....red back and all. No redesign necessary on my end! Let's see, I can have it possibly in 30 days or less with a red back cover or wait 3+ months for them to change it to something a little more pleasing to the eye. I think not!

Agreed. I can deal with the red back and a screen that's not absolutely perfect. Just release the damn thing!

Meh, the HTC Desire on AT&T is looking better every day. Oh...CRAP...GPRS roam in northern PA where some of my family lives. CRAP. Why, Verizon, do you TORMENT ME! I, for one, hope the Incredible gets scrapped and they ask HTC to spin the Desire by cramming a CDMA radio into it. I'll wait until June for that, and pick up an Eris in the meantime for cheap off Craigslist. I can't f***ing believe that I'm approaching a full year of waiting for a decent smartphone on what's amounting to the nation's most useless network for me. Just think, I could have picked up Verizon's latest offering of year-old technology this time last year and been eligible for a new phone already. If we lived in Europe, we'd have our purchase day for our new phone already penciled into our calendars. F*** the US mobile market.

I actually was considering the desire on att until I saw the BS they pulled on the backflip (only can get apps from app store, replacing google search with yahoo and stuffing it full of ATT bloatware) if they pulled that **** on the desire they can keep it.

YES, I used to teach in Emporium! I live in Leeper now near Clarion and close to Tionesta. When we bought the property our house was on we had no service -- by the time we set our house and moved in, we had a tower literally next door and full signal! At our apartment in Tionesta, the local State Police barracks communication gear screwed up our signals. So, this is like heaven here!

I hear you, man. I don't get the secrecy with these phones. They're just phones for cryin' out loud and the info surrounding them is locked up tighter than some of our nation's secrets!
Because the American economy is based capitalism and it would be unwise to give your competitors a leg up by revealing that? I dont mean to atack you or anything, but you act as if VZW is trying to purposefully hide things just for fun. By not revealing release dates, they keep their competitors guessing and won't allow them to outclass them with a similar phone a few days beforehand, thus taking up potential customers.

what i am getting from this is just hey sorry i cant discuss this phone with you no mater how tight we are. let me throw together a hard to fallow email to him so im not saying it exist or doesnt

Guys, even the e-mail I got back.. TAKE IT ALL WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. Wait until the 23rd, we don't know what is gonna happen. I am not denying the source at all. Just wait and see. We did see something in the inventory so I have to think somethig is coming!

BTW, in Steven's defense of his source's claim that the N1 will NOT be sold in stores, AndroidCentral posted this:
Update: Got pinged on Twitter by someone who says they're a retail manager for Verizon and hasn't heard anything about that. Lends credence to our belief that this is more customer service than in-store sales.

(I know that someone posted the link for this story, but I wasn't sure if it was before or after the update they posted)

Sounds reasonable.. I can email or msg you the part of letter that deals with n1 if you want.

I didn't find it hard to follow in the least. The translation is:

Look! How can I make an announcement of a product that hasn't even passed inspection, yet? How can I announce a product that might fail altogether? Wouldn't that make me (us) look like idiots?

I'm sure these people know that they would get criticized if they let the cat out of the bag too soon or not soon enough. Reading between the lines and taking what this official said in the context of the rumor that the Incredible was sent back for re-design, it makes perfect sense to me.

VZW probably read this forum and saw people bitchin' about the colors and design of the backplate and went back to the drawing board.... hhhahah

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

My source was specific to say that it would be neither in stores or on the internet. It seems to me to be that they trying to combat the internet rumor specifically. Who knows?

Steven58 sounds a LOT like a guy who has been BOOTED from multiple threads for spreading "insider" information that is not true. I wish I could remember the dudes screen name, but he was booted multiple times.

I am going to stick with the belief that the Incredible is still coming..regardless of what this guy says....

I have a friend at Verizon who just told me that the Incredible was launching tomorrow...he is VERY high up...like Obama high...LOL Whatever people we will see what happens later this month

GUYS CHILL daaaaaaaaaaamn no need to start hatin' on members. Everyone is tryin' to help. Just relax, wait for the official annoucment and CTIA, something is coming, I think we can all agree on that.

yep i agree why not wait till CTIA and see what happens... once they roll up the red carpet and if nothing was announced well i just use my pos phone till i break it in 2.... if the N1 or Incredible is announced at CTIA well i am putting my old phone in my skeet thrower and shooting it with my 12 guage

They're saying retail managers (who work in-store) have heard anothing about this rumored "training" and that if this "training" is true, that it is most likely for customer service purposes (calling VZW for support)

By not revealing release dates, they keep their competitors guessing and won't allow them to outclass them with a similar phone a few days beforehand, thus taking up potential customers.

Yeah but AT&T does that to Verizon even without specs! Like the Desire isn't going to outclass the Incredible?!!!

soooo true, good points +1

Well, I'm not really a member. I'm a newbie, here, and am, therefore, entirely expendable! :p

for the N1 being sold in stores i dont that will happen someone on here mentioned about maybe having 4 of them in stores then a kiosk to order online if you actually want to buy one. That sounds like a fesable plan on everyones part. But i dont think we would see the kiosks at verizon because it woul probably bring you to the google store where you can pick tmobile or verizon... I think it would be more logical to have the kiosk at best buys, walmarts and other places that sell multiple carriers in there store. That way google still has there "best of the androids" idea. Selling it in store at verizon would defeat the purpose of them setting up the google store for there cell phone. my .02 cents

I'm not 100% sure on this, but has AT&T actually released officially they are going to carry the phone or was this a "insider" leak?

Also, all the specs on the Incredible are just rumored, so you do not know that.

Na, I believe you. Everyone is startin' to wild out though, good and bad. Until VZW just does NOT launch the Incredible and nothing is mentioned or released at CTIA AND after the N1 is released or available I am just gonna cheeeeiiiilllllllllllllllllllllllll

Grab a bottle of pabst everyone and take a nap  :p Something is gonna happen.
