Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

just to add in my bit (first post) to fix the laggy dialer app:

menu/settings/sounds and display and turn off audible touch tones.

dialer has been quick since, and dtmf still works.

Have you done the *228 using option 1? That worked for me last night. I was having all kinds of problems. Couldnt even connect to the network. Used option 1, and I've been good to go.
I had to call on this issue, I can tell you they had me do a *228 option 0

worst case call, they fixed my daughters with no questions asked and less then 5 mins on phone.....

Anyone experiencing issues with the new navigator in 2.1? When i'm using the navigation and if i receive a phone call my phone acts up and i can't answer the call and of course the back button doesn't work so i'm unable to exit the navigation unless i press the home button

I keep getting unwanted contact list whenever I sync up with the facebook.
The people who post their numbers on facebook (I really don't know why) filled up my contact list. I managed to remove them by unchecking facebook contact list on view contacts, but I still have to navigate through all the unnecessary names when I try to compose a new text msg on chomp sms. Is there any way to remove all the unnecessary contacts without cutting my sync with facebook? I don't understand why contact list became so ******ed.

Woke up this morning and my mail notification ringtone was changed. It went from the crank yankers "you got mail" to some country song.

"Does Charlie Daniels play a mean fiddle?"

I keep reading about ringtones reverting back to factory defaults, but this is a new one for me.

Finally got the lack-of-sound-on-phone-call bug just now. It happened when I hung up on one call and immediately tried to place another. No sound. Tried hanging up and calling again with no luck. Tried turning on WiFi (in case it needed data connection open for something in background). No luck. Had to power cycle in order to place call successfully.

Apparently some Nexus One folks on T-Mobile are having what sounds like the same problem:

Can't seem to calibrate the G-sensor. Keeps saying Calibration aborted.

Then, in the midst of typing this post it worked.

Yea, I haven't figured out a way to keep custom pics on contacts without unlinking them from facebook... That was not a problem in 1.5 and I do find it pretty annoying...

Also, with the stock messaging app, no matter if I've linked my contact to facebook or not it always shows their picture as the one from facebook. Anybody know how to fix that?! I mean if I took the time to get a custom picture for someone I obviously want that used everywhere...

has anyone found a fix for this? its bothering the hell out of me.

try checking on gmail if they are in your contacts in there also. You should be able to remove everyone on gmail and then sync up with your new list.

It may be. While he/she is mostly talking about the data connection, in theory it could apply to the actual phone connection too. I just see it as the fact that other than a restart, airplane mode is the only way to actually turn off and on the phones radio.

I had to restart earlier today and my 50% came back. I put the phone in airplane mode on the charger and let the phone go to sleep. I woke it back up and turned airplane mode off and everything was right as rain. So I guess it doesn't really need to be that long, but I think letting the phone sleep for a few seconds helps kick the switch over.

So, a few things about this.

1. I tried the airplane mode solution. It seems to show some difference but I can't tell if it's placebo affect for me. Occasionally I will have 3 or 4 bars and be really happy and then it goes back to 1 or 2. Or 0.

2. when the phone is plugged in and then unplugged, it resets the "Time without a signal" and other "Battery use" catergories because the only thing it is listing is Time "since unplugged." This is why the time without a signal goes away or drops significantly. It is not a fix. (Though it may, somehow or another, have an impact on cell signal).

3. I am getting better (not good, maybe good for the eris) battery life although the phone is still reporting low signal strength. It is hard to tell if i actually have low signal strength or not. Most calls have been good. A couple have been really bad.

4. Someone (can't remember who) had mentioned that the "Time without a signal" when at 50% was very closely related to the amount of time the phone was off the charger. I can't remember exactly which numbers were compared but I checked earlier today and the numbers matched. In my opinion, the 50% is a simple glitch that is miscalculated from either the Up time, Awake time, and/or Time on values.

I don't know how much any of this helps. Where I am right now is basically, battery life is a little better, I think I'm getting a signal but I really wish I knew what was causing it to report such a horribly low signal, and "Time without a signal" seems pretty much arbitrary to me for now.

Thoughts?

You may be right on all accounts. As I said before, I was getting the 50% time with out signal, but it really had nothing to do with my time off the charger. I would take my phone off the charger at the beginning of the day and wouldn't put it back on until the mid afternoon. My phone showed 50% time with out signal the second I took it off the charger in the morning, even after a restart. The only thing I ever figured that airplane mode actually did for this was to turn off the connection to the network and, once turned back on, allowed it to establish a reasonably solid connection again. Like I said before, I experienced better battery life (lasting a whole day again), I have more bars (3 now where I only had one just before I made the post you quoted) and I no longer have the 50% without signal issue. Of course that all goes away if the phone has to be restarted.

I don't think I ever really had a problem with the actual signal, more of a problem with the way the phone was reporting it. I haven't hit a single problem with 3G so far. My battery was getting sucked down pretty quick though and I do think that the % without signal may have been causing that.

If it helps someone it helps them, if it doesn't it doesn't. Either way, I don't think trying it is going to actually hurt anything.

Just noticed a new bug...

When clicking the search button ONLY IN THE INTERNET, there's no space bar.

Unless I'm missing something...

I ran into that too but thought I hit a wrong button or something. But nope, just confirmed. You get the "internet address" keyboard, i.e. with the ".com" key, the "/" key, and so on.

What the synopsis of this battery / cell standby / airplane mode issue ? Mine's been plugged in in the car quite a few bit recently so I don't see battery drain a lot but have noticed it dropping pretty quick when it's not on a charger (I have a battery widget with %).

I've noticed that some core apps have forced closed, have to do a restart for them to work again. Browser, Camera, BT-Music, sound. These simple services seem to just hang from time to time. Very weird.

If you hit the search button one more time after it shows the URL toolbar, it will show the search toolbar with the spacebar button.

Basically when you go to the battery use information and select cell standby there should be a Time on reading (mine is 31m 33s right now). If that is all you have then you don't have an issue. However, if you see anything that says time without signal (typically 50% when shown) then this may be helping to drain your battery. Doing the whole plug in phone, put phone in airplane mode, let sleep for a minute, take out of airplane mode and unplug seems to get rid of the 50% time with out signal. This also seems to have a positive effect on battery life and the number of bars you are showing.

If you are talking about where you type in a URL, then you shouldn't need one.

C'mon OTD, I'm not stupid ;)

In the internet, when you click the search button to bring up google search...

That just takes you back to quicksearch though, not google search....so only a minor fix.
