Would an upcoming Motorola device on Verizon with a 4.3" screen affect your decision to buy the HTC Incredible?

See the thread below for info I have found.

For me, not really.. Unless it was keyboardless, ultra thin and light and still easily pocketable.

For my needs I think the Incredible will be just fine. But I am not nearly as tech groovy as most people on here and I won't speak for them ;)

Edit: I am not a huge fan of moto too. I feel their stuff tends to be on the cheap side. JUST my opinion tho.

Me neither. Whatever it is, I doubt we'll see it for a while since it is still in the testing phase before it gets sent to the FCC.

I've been waiting for the Incredible since Nov and I don't plan to wait longer.

With how things seem to be going lately if you stop and wait for the next great phone that is having info leaked about it, you are going to be waiting forever because every other month a new piece of tech pops up. If the incredible is as good as some of the latest rumors/unconfirmed specs make me think it is then I'm going for it

Great thing for me is my family plan has someone who loves her dumbphone. So I am using her upgrade on the Incredible/N1, then I can use mine in August/Fall on a better phone and sell my Incredible/Nexus 1.

But no, I do not want to put myself through the waiting and anticipation ever again. As soon as the Incredible drops, I will have it.

No. Nothing against Motorola, well maybe a little. But I'm not waiting past the Incredible or Nexus One. Also I don't like Blur (not saying this would have Blur, but odds favor it) but I really like Sense. Hell all I've wanted is a beefier Eris.

Does anyone think that when the Incredible launches they will make it available online before the stores? One of the reasons I ask is that I have found that you get a better deal from the online stores, than at the physical store.

usually only true if a mail-in rebate is involved.

But...Does it do the laundry? That's what I need most from my smartphone. With two kids and working full time, there's only so many times I can go up and down the stairs with a basket full of laundry.:p

you have a husband-slave for that, fool! ;) :D

It might be done one of two ways (assuming early access). Either like the Devour where certain retail channels get it early OR like the Droid places like Best Buy will have pre-orders for it where they'll take care of the annoying ass mail in rebate but it launches everywhere at the same time

I think Motorola did one thing great... built the BEST Android phone out there. This was a huge turning point for Android in general... it got it out to the masses and created a lot of popularity for this OS, not to mention it was on the best network out there...Verizon.

Here's the issue, while the Droid is a great phone, it's not the best. It was a great starting point for a lot of people and really whet our whistle for Android in general. Moto slouched on the 2.1 upgrade everyone is looking for (and left a slightly bitter taste towards Moto for some of us) and with all these new phones coming out the Droid is going to have a hard time competing. For new Android lovers, we are all looking towards HTC now.

HTC's phones are sleek, powerful and drool-worthy, hence the reason we have so many posts in this thread, we all want something new and pretty! In general, the Droid is a solid, beautiful looking phone, but it's industrial look doesn't attract everyone. Let's face it, we all love the look of the iPhone (except for that awful chrome bezel -- can we say cheesy!), we all want something faster and more capable as well.

It seems like for Moto, everytime they release something great, they take steps backwards right after. The Cliq? The Devour? These are some UGLY, underpowered, featureless devices that any gadget-geek just looks right past and says, yuck. Motoblur, come on... how can you call that a skin...take a look at SenseUI (which is how skins should be made). If you can't make something at least that usable & sleek, don't bother releasing it at all). I'd be very impressed if Moto released another high-end phone that also pleases people aesthically, but would I buy it, probably not.

Again, I think Moto did something HUGE for the Android community, that is to get people to love the OS, and I thank them for that. Now that we love Android, we want a device worthy of the OS. The Nexus One is cool...but the trackball is awful and useless, i'd never buy it simply because of that. The incredible or the Legend...those are beautiful phones and are the types of devices all of us are looking for in the future. We need an iPhone killer...and right now...there still isnt one on the market. The incredible with it's great looks and super slick UI really could be it. It would really blow me away from a consumer and fanboy if they didn't promote it like they did the Droid.

I guess we'll all see sometime soon... just my 2 cents. I see this as a huge opportunity for Verizon, let's see what they do with it.

That said, Moto is a foreign company and they have some really nice Android phones out in Asia that we wont get. The Motoroi is sleek, along with the two others they released in China without Motoblur.

I think the American carriers/phone industry is more to blame than the manufacturers in most cases.

lol, the "tell your kids/significant other to get their lazy ass up off the couch and do some work" app :D
app for that... That's funny. Husband does more domestic chores than I do. My phone requirement is more for his relief than mine :D.

As for kids, they're in training. Both still in diapers so I'm happy if the house is still standing when I get home.:p

Your husband is better than me. :)

Actually, they're an American company, which makes it bite a little harder when they don't put their best stuff out here.

BRAVO!!! Loved reading your post. Please post more. :)

Thanks, here's my last rant for the day!!!

What makes a GREAT phone in my opinion...

I'm a graphic designer by night and think I have knack for aesthetics. I'm a fairly anal-retentive person so I like my gadgets in perfect condition, all the time. So now that you understand a bit of where I'm coming from...here's what I think is needed for the "perfect phone."

As of right now, the closest to a "perfect" phone is the iPhone. However, it is getting dated...quickly. The chrome bezel HAS TO GO, it's a bit to thick and the screen has crap resolution. The OS is looking dated as well, it's is in dire needs of a refresh, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Based on that... here's what the phone needs to capture the attention of the masses:

- Huge, vivid screen. Has to be at least 3.7" and at least the resolution of the N1, anything less -- crap. The seal has to be excellent, because I do not tolerate dust under the screen (IMO the Droid has the best screen on the market at this time).
- Haptic buttons, no physical buttons on the front of the device. Physical buttons break and collect dust in their seams, they're ugly.
- Same or similar button layout of the Droid (power button on top, vol up/down buttons and a camera button. Make the clicks solid and crisp, without any play in them. (the Droid suffers horribly with button play).
- Keep the device not much larger than the viewing area of the screen, I hate seeing blank space, leave enough room for the speakers, the antenna and the microphone, nothing more.
- Speaker - the Droid has an exceptional speaker...loud, clear, crisp. Anything less should not even be considered.
- No physical keyboard. While i like having one, they are never implemented properly. I hate any play in my devices, they have to feel PERECTLY well built, i hate hearing clicking when i tap on a corner of the screen, thing like that. I don't see anyway to avoid these issues, so leave the physical keyboard out all together.
- Smooth. It has to feel good in the hand, i like a glossy back, it just feels "nice." I also would like it to be as scratch resistance as possible, because I do not like cluttering up the device with a case.
- Quality camera... let's face it, the cell phone is something we have nearly everywhere we go, we need it to take pictures worth keeping or videos worth sharing. The quality and responsiveness of the camera needs to be top notch.
- Less is more. Less things to detract attention from the overall look, keep the colors basic, not too many logos or seams, etc. (N1 has the look if there was no trackball and the height of the phone was shortened a bit).
- Customizeable, why not! People like to modify things they own to make them theirs. This is why we offer our Colorlays for the Droid (GrafiXpressions - Express yourself in vinyl form!.... I think the Incredible would do great allowing the customer to choose colors for the battery cover. Personally I love the edgieness of the Red...but others may not. So sell them for $30 a pop and make some money off people who want to customize!

To me...at this point, the Incredible has everything needed to be a great phone, but until we see more and actually touch and feel it, i'm not sure if it will be that "perfect" phone.

Half assed in what way? everything we've seen so far about the Incredible hasn't been final hardware and it's already been stated that the back of the Incredible is no longer RED it's BLACK and the red accents are gone too if we are to believe what's been said today.

Almost wish no pics of the Incredible were leaked because everyone's been assuming that's how it's going to look when it's released. The pics we've seen have been from a pre production,non-finalized development phone.

whether the red accents are gone or not, the phone design looks dated. Idk maybe theyll do what they did with the desire and itll look better. Its not sleek (at least not to me) in comparable to the N1 or the Desire.
