Would you buy one again (Verizon version)?

Rezound is nice, my Neighbor at work has one. Of course he gets fairly solid 4G where I get poor 3G. But since I just use twitter, tapatalk, and email while at work, slow data doesn't affect me too much.

agreed on the rezound. I had it for three weeks and i think it is a great device.

it's sad that us VZW G Nex owners haven't really had one single Official update since the device was launched, i don't count the launch day update. Yet Moto and the Rez are really close to dropping ICS on their devices....sad sad sad...smh

Yeah, I'm not real happy about the update thing.

signal wise I find the GN "adequate" not bad, but definitely not good.

We don't need update for freaking Verizon. We are rooted, so we get pics 4.0.4 way before Verizon update their customers.

My answer is, "It depends."

Would I buy it again on launch day? Probably not.

Would I buy it again if I planned to stay stock? No.

Would I buy it now that the price has dropped? Probably.

Would I buy it now that the price has dropped and I planned to root? Absolutely.

As others have noted, the phone has problems and it isn't just the Verizon version. Can they be fixed? Yes. Will they be fixed? Who knows. The updates are out there, but for some reason they have not been released. My main problem with the phone was reception, but that has been improved greatly with the latest updates to LTE in my area and possibly the 4.0.4 radios. Either way, I'm happy with it now.

you can flash all the 4.0.4 roms you want but your not going to get any of the firmware updates that would be in an Official update.

HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. This is my 5th replacement and even this one has issues. I bought the phone the day it came out. I will never buy another Samsumg phone. Radio quality is horrible. I actually have to use my phone for phone calls and it is horrible for that. I have installed new radios and ROM'd it but nothing has helped it. Verizon has offered to put me in a different phone due to all the issues. I will be going to the Rezound. I would like to get the RAZR Maxx but the non removable battery is killing it for me. To Me Motorola has the the best radios around. I realize the bootloaders are locked but I can still root the phone and remove the bloat on the phone. Since I dont like the idea of non removable batteries, I will be going with the Rezound instead. Used it for a week and I liked it and since it will be getting ICS, who cares. I dont mind Sense.

Android is open source. Whatever is released offically will be made available to the developers. Most likely it will be well before it's pushed to the general public.

I believe Trophy is talking about the specific CDMA stuff from Verizon. Which isn't really available unless it is leaked to us.

Bingo!

You can get CDMA/LTE VZW firmware one of two ways

1. A leaked build
2. Official OTA

The open source code that drops every so often doesn't contain firmware specific to the VZW G Nex.

At this point in the game? No way. If I would have known google was basically going to do a bait and switch (yes, I know it's not quite that, but still) with developer support I would have never gotten it in the first place.

Google really needs to tighten the reins on the way things are going for updates, et.. al... Jellybean is already being talked about (not sure of release date yet) and less than 5% units have ICS.

If I absolutely had to have a phone at this moment and was on verizon, I'd get a MAXX. If I could wait a few months then I would see when the GSIII, et al.. are coming out.

I personally will never purchase another google nexus. They (google) along with verizon have ruined the experience for me.

Just to be fair, I wouldn't blame Google. Verizon is the reason the updates are taking longer and it was bound to happen. They hold the leash on their network pretty tight.

I wish I had a Rezound, it's waaaaaaaaaaay better than the Galaxy Nexus. Simultaneous 3G and voice, better reception, non pentile display/higher pixels per inch, better rear camera(it's actually the best camera on any Android phone in the world assuming the One X hasn't eclipsed it), better front camera, and it is getting ICS.

Well today I learned that the Rezound has SVDO. Did not know that. Not that I care too much. I don't make phone calls too often, and when I do, I am near Wifi/4G.

Yes, I'd buy it again.. Doesnt mean I like the problems. My only real issue is battery life. I'm ordering a extended battery from verizon. My vote doesnt really count though. I came from an Omnia 2 with windows. This phone is like driving a Porche (like I know what thats like) after riding a mule.

Yes, I would. And did. My story goes something like this:

- bought the lte nexus on release day. loved ics, loved the sleekness of the phone, etc, but was very disappointed in the screen for video watching and the purple/yellow tinting the screen had. was told both are "typical samoled", so I decided to jump ship to the rezound
- had the rezound for a couple of weeks, and while it had terrific reception and was a nice phone overall, I missed the nexus a lot. I missed AOSP and remembered how much I hated sense. And the rezound had the dreaded "pink capacitive buttons" which annoyed me to no end.
- through a loop hole, I found I could return the rezound, wait for my upgrade to re-clear then buy the nexus back, which I did.

I ran into a hardware issue with the radio on a couple of them, but finally got one that works and which has a screen without too much banding and tinting issues (slight green tint on the bottom half of the screen and slight pink/red tint on the top, but not very noticeable).

I still dislike the video playback, but I've come to terms with it. And right now if I could buy any phone i wanted on VZW, it'd still be the Nexus. Even given the slow updates from VZW, I was planning to root/unlock anyway, so I'm rocking 4.0.4 (AOKP) anyway, and the only real reason I'm impatient for the OTA is the hope for a new radio. While the radio is 'ok', it definitely does drop 4G in places it shouldn't (relative to other 4G/LTE phones), especially indoors. So hopefully a radio firmware update will fix those issues, but if not I'm one of the fortunate ones to be on wifi 99% of the time, so it's not too big of an issue for me.

The biggest issue for me right now is the "muting outbound audio during phone calls" bug, which I REALLY hope Verizon fixes in this OTA, because if not, it sounds like a hardware problem and I really don't want to go through the hassle of sending it into Samsung and waiting for them to fix it.

As far as android is concerned, I have no regrets. Even with the delay in the 4.0.4 update on my verizon gnex, having stock ics outweighs the wait for 4.0.4. Compared to other Android devices, you really can't go wrong. Yeah some of the new HTC devices are actually starting to compete as far as hardware, but still, they're not stock ics.

I do still have some doubts about android in general versus wp7 or iOS. I think ics is a bit laggy (some of the lag is said to be fixed with 4.0.4), and I'm not really liking this long wait for 4.0.4. Usually, there is a 4 month wait from the time a new android version is released on the nexus phone, to the time you will see it on an htc, moto, or samsung non-nexus device. We're now going on waiting 2 months just for a .0.x update for a nexus device which seems to be a while.

I just can't go with the iphone because it's too small and boring, and the wp7 phones still have that microsoft feel. Kind of how even though ie9 is supposedly really good and an actual competitor, I will never use it because of how bad the previous versions were. Also, wp7 lacks apps and I'd rather be stuck in the google ecosystem rather than m$

Not for me. I thought I was going to put it through a wall tonight because of the random reboot issue not to mention much lower than average reception from the radios. I wish I'd have waited it out for something else with my Dinc - that phone rocked the house for what it was.

I had my Nexus reboot once in nearly 4 months, and that was one I had to exchange due to bad hardware (unrelated to that reboot). If your phone is rebooting that often, there is either a hardware problem with it or you have some app causing the crashes. That's not normal for a nexus without hardware problems and with well-behaving apps.

Absolutely I would!
I would have waited to get it from wirefly on the cheap tho.
BTW, I bought mine launch day for $250.

It has happened to a lot of people. My nexus has been problem free aside from the random reboot problem. I did a factory reset and it still didn't fix it, but it's not a huge deal to me so I'm not going to return it and risk getting one with connectivity issues.
