Complete phone idiot. Questions about Gingerbread / ICS?

dont worry bout that. u have nothing to really back up.
Ok so pwer button to get to recovery...from here on out i asume u know how so just gonna say go to recovery.
Ok wipe everything like it says .
Choose install zip, find it and install. now before u reboot install the gapps. Then reboot. Once it boots go to recovery again and install the last zip inverted app or something like that. then reboot and presto.
Post back with ?s and results.

now once u have you phone all set up the way u like it. Go into recovery and scroll to backup and restore and backup ur system. it will take several min. then reboot so now what ever happens u can get ur phone back to the way it was when u did the backup

Alright. Now am I safe to delete all those zips off my SD card after I have used them? I still have copies of them on my computer. Just trying to keep my card as clean as I can.

The panorama in the current 4.0 is nothing compared to what I had but that gapps says it has an updated camera so hopefully thatll give me what Im looking for

Dont worry these guys update these things all the time it will only get better.
You can delete those zip files if u choose.
Did u downlaod and install all three files in the right order?
Pretty neat looking rom huh? Dude that made it is a cool guy

I didn't put the blackout one on yet. still just sitting on the regular 4.0. Last file is downloading now. I downloaded the more stock looking one with that gapps also. I figure I may as well try both right now since my phone is clean so i dont have to worry about wiping stuff out later.

Once I'm done I will go back and "thanks" every post you made lol. Hopefully I will like this and not just decide to go back anyway >.> I just got used to it how it was now its all different lol
 
ok just make sure when u install a new rom read directions carefully. There are sometimes unique steps for each. Do each step EXACTLY as they have it. Any ?s ill be around for a while. Any rom u r thinking bout flashing Ive already flashed it so if u have any probs or question ill be here to help.

I put the normal rom on first just to see what I can customize in it. Wasn't expecting the pink unicorn at start up lol. I will mess around with it but now that I have the basic idea I should be all set.

your welcome. believe or not u can change it to another one. there r dozens of different ones. I can teach u that later. lol go under setting tab u will see the unicorn. hit that there r all sorts of customizations r can do . in the nova launcher settings also.
 
Quadrant went down to 1191 on this one >.> Gonna try another lol. Its even being slow swyping between home screens. Speaking of swype...I don't have that anymore I guess. Oh well only used it while driving. Maybe not having it will keep me alive.
 
yeah i dont know about quadrant scores i dont use them . i got ICS for features GB doesnt have. There is a supercharger script u can run that will speed u up. or just tweak the CPU of the kernel. By default ur phone runs at 1.0ghz. u can set that to like 1.4 like i do. My phone flies will challenge it against any phone.
 
I will mess around with the roms and once I find something I like I will look into speeding it up. The only thing I didn't want to lose was the camera functions and it seems like I don't have anywhere near as many as I did on 2.2.2 >.>

The panorama on this 4.0 isn't that great :(
 
BTW some custom roms will be slow at first . i have seen it first hand . just be patient and play around till u find something u like. U can always go back to a custom GB rom.
Just remember before coming back to ICS u always have to flash that build 2 first!!!!!
 
Tried the Gummy rom. 1808 quadrant score. Beats my Epic finally. Its very smooth. Had some errors starting up but I just disabled the apps they were things I wouldn't use anywa... i.e. google wallet.

So I think I'm gonna give this one a go for a bit. I still might want to try overclocking the processor a bit or something though just for fun lol.

Still hate the camera but maybe I can find an app that does what I need.

Ugh. I keep running into things not working. And my camcorder will not work on 720p :( The contacts tab doesn't seem to let me add any contacts either. I have even tried calling my phone from my girlfriends and I still cannot just add her number to a contact. Blah ><
 
Somethings messed up bad...all I did was take the battery out of my phone and put in my spare and now it pops up with the loading screen then some error comes up and it shuts off and goes back to the loading screen again. With either battery now.

I think I need to just go back to gingerbread for now I cant not have my phone I'm gonna end up getting screwed tonight on call and unable to answer a call should I get one -,-


EDIT: Sigh..so at least I understand how to do this now so I can mess with it. I just used ODIN to revert to "stock" gingerbread. Which is still an upgrade for me and actually is quite a bit smoother than the 2.2.2 I was on. I will try again when I'm on an off week lol.

Sry to hear bout ur problems ill take a look into it. As long as u have odin and those zip files and a recovery image u can ALWAYS recover ur phone. Post back whenever u get a chance. we will get it right

Lol yea once I realized I messed it up I went searching :P

In the process of rooting it again right now on gingerbread and will leave it alone for tonight I guess and try again tomorrow.
 
yeah i dont use them but apparently there r tons of GB roms with tons of cool features. Just search around and see what ya like. Good luck. Im always around.
