Root Best ICS Rom for Evo??

I just downloaded the derp sense 3.0 rom and so far I like it... it is very simple and clean. Only thing I miss is the Miktweaks. Is there miktweaks on mik3d? And I am also thinking about just going back to mikg 3.11, if so could I just restore my nandroid of it when I first did the back up?

Yep just restore and you're good.

Back to ics, dark light is pretty sweet especially if you live dark themed roms

Sooo I downloaded the new derp 3d rom but so far it has been really slow for me and I don't really like it... I would like a non sense rom like miui but miui just ran really slow for me and was really laggy... are there any good non sense roms that are really fast and snappy that look pretty cool?

OK So a new question for you guys. What is the reason for flashing a kernel? Oh and what does OP stand for (original post?) Is there some sort of direct list for ICS roms?

A kernel is sort of the middle man from the phone's hardware and software. A custom kernel can make your phone more responsive and perhaps give it better battery life. They will allow you to overclock your CPU if so desired and each kernel will have its own specific set of governors which will dictate how the CPU behaves.

It's tough to say what kernel is the "best" because they differ a lot from phone to phone. For instance, I'm sure many people use the Underworld kernel on Sense Gingerbread roms. My phone lags like crazy when using it. But if I run the same rom with the Anthrax kernel (or really, most any other kernel) it's buttery smooth. On AOSP roms, I have had good luck with Tiamat, SavagedZen and Mason.

So you don't have to use a rom and kernel from the same make? Right now I am using the stock kernel and the aokp_supersonic_build-34 rom on my OG Evo. BTW what does OP stand for? I see it all over the place.

I have tried using the MIUI rom but had all kinds of errors using it. What is recommend for ICS rom options for the evo?

on Kernels you have to check to see if its aosp based or sense based as arent interchangeable (only sensed based kernels can be used on sense roms, aosp only on aosp roms). OP is original post

If you flash kernel for sense based rom but are using aosp rom, it will NOT boot up, same goes for aosp kernel on a sense besed rom.
Are AOSP non sense Roms? And can I get some links to see what those Roms look like and where to download them?
yes AOSP are non sense roms. What they look like is different from rom to rom. example of an AOSP rom is http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...om-unofficial-cm9-supersonic-2012-4-28-a.html

Sorry, I'm good on computers but learning the phones... how can you figure out which is which?

If it is a sense rom it will look just like a normal evo w/the htc clock and the 3 button rosie at the bottom. If it is a aosp rom it will look totally different. Also when downloading the rom usually in the title it will say if its a sense rom or aosp.

Hey thanks for the pm but what is your favorite aosp rom? There are so many Idk where to start... lol

i like decks 1.3 /1.3d . After is flashed and running for about 5-10, then i flash a sbc tiamat kernel (longer battery life) HTC Evo 4G

( 4.1.0sbc) -gingerbread

(always wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery before/after flashing kernel in recovery)

for ics (all ics roms beta or pre-beta) but thus far i like miui ics http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493631

Decks ICS is good as well (hwa) http://d-h.st/users/deck/?fld_id=609#files'

if you change the kernels, make sure its for ics when using ics rom

tiamat ics kernels (dont use the other tiamat kernels other then listed here)

Tiamat_Supersonic-sbc-v031412
Tiamat_Supersonic-v031412

Mason kernels

This Rom looks good to me but I see it is based off of cm7 and I looked that up and people say that there is a bootloop problem that you cant fix, is that true? Is there a problem like that? Is it fixable?

Which rom?

I have not experienced that with any of Decks roms. As always though, make a nandroid backup before flashing roms. I would use ArmanRa recovery to flash the rom as other recovery's have issues. If talking about the ics roms, they are beta and prebeta so there will be issues which is why i would go with a gingerbread rom until they are better

As far as getting out of a boot loop if it happens, pull the battery, then boot into hboot (holding volume down and power button at the same time for 5-10 seconds and let go) then you can go into recovery and restore your backup

But like i said, ive never had that issue. (after making nandroid backup) ALWAYS WIPE data/cache/dalvik cache/system at least a few times in recovery before flashing a new rom

Thanks Rex!!! I agree with him..From what I hear, decks 1.3d is the "gold standard" of GB Roms.. I am running the Qwik build of CM7.2 as of late..it is very stable and super fast..I was on mikg previous...I am loving AOSP way more..seems as if Rosie just slowed my phone down, so I had to dump her!

[ROM][2.3.7][AOSP] KWIQ Rom--"Form Follows Function"[4/9/12] UPDATED - xda-developers

I am using the Savaged Zen kernel baked in underclocked to 576 and the battery life and performance is GREAT! The good thing about the ROM is there is really no need to tweak, as it has some good ones built in.

I would go for decks..but I hear something about new development for it..so Im gonna hold off

as far as ICS, I am very OCD about my phone..so if everything doesnt work, I dont want it...Ill wait until a final release to try it out.

And this is kind of off topic but can I flash Beats Audio on to this Rom too? If so can I get a link and tutorial on where/how to get it?

Nevermind I got it figured and I am now running the rom. I will probably be downloading the kernal tomorrow but everything is up and going good. Thanks again for all the help... I do have a question though, I have an app called theme changer and it had like 3 Themes inseide of it but how do I get more? Thanks again for the help!
