With the pre-order on the gnex you had to pay for the whole thing up front, I don't see the evolte being any different.

Thanks for the info. Was that online or in-store?

Looking up more info I found an article from the Galaxy Nexus pre-sale. They should just call it a pre-sale instead of pre-order...
Sprint Galaxy Nexus hits April 22; preorder now for $199! | Android Central

And here is the best page I could find on Sprint.com regarding their updated online pre-orders/pre-sales. I'm thinking this is the "How Pre-Orders Work" page from the above link?

Sprint.com | Learn about pre-ordering select devices

The chat representative I was in contact with said that in store pre-orders may not match the online process and will vary. Not sure what that plan will be, hopefully someone can weigh in with recent Sprint store pre-order info?

There are also other alternate pre-order options to consider as well, like Best Buy, RadioShack, and local retailers. It could just be me, but I feel kinda like the game has changed and less confident about how each place will handle things this time around.

Should have been a little more specific, sorry. Yeah, the pre-sale was online, I am not sure how they handled it in store. Come to think of it, the pre-sale may have been online only. Since the evolte is by far a bigger deal to sprint than the gnex I am sure sprint will have more options available to the customers.

I believe pre-sale terms will vary by reseller too, in the same way that for places like BestBuy and Radioshack, they will give you the upgrade rebate immediately rather then requiring a form and receipt to be mailed in.

Bestbuy has historically charged a $50 down payment in the form of a giftcard to lock in a preorder.

Did Sprint be rid of Mail In Rebates yet? This time last year they made a long term, however non-permanent move towards instant rebate only. I never heard if they made that permanent though or not.

Yeah I don't think they do the mail in rebates anymore, last year when I got the evo 3d no rebate was necessary also last week when I got the gnex there wasn't any rebates involved either. So I guess we can assume that the days of mailing in a rebate are done, at least I hope so.

WTH???

Sense 4.0 no longer has separate ringtones and notifications volumes.

But Android still does, right? So a third party volume manager should still give you the degree of customization you need?

I currently use audiomanager and volumelocker to maintain my volume settings. I started using these apps to set the System volume, something that Sense never let you touch, and the dialer app always forced to max volume.

Yeah, from what I can gather, the volumes are linked at a system level. In audiomanager, the notifications option is greyed out, but when you move the volume slider, the notifications slider moves too.

In tasker, it appears as though you can control them seperately, but lowering one to silent puts the handset in silent mode.

I'm going to scour the theme/mod section on XDA to see if any of the available mods will alter this.

So this volume problem is only with Sense 4.0? I know this is long shot, but what if you use a different launcher like Go Launcher and a third party app to control the volumes? I only ask because I know with Sense we can put the home screen in landscape mode. But with a different launcher it works. I'm sure there is way around this somehow.

This is at the settings level, so I doubt that something as high up as the launcher will fix this. :(

EP has tried a few volume apps, no luck.

I agree with EM. At the settings level, launchers don't usually affect what can/can't be done.

That's just so odd to me why the sounds settings would've been something that changed. That's something that I did like about HTC Sense, that wasn't necessarily the same on Moto. At the same time, Moto allowed me to have different alerts for different functions (more-so than sense), so that trade-off was worth it.

I'm shootin' from the hip here, but maybe it has something to do with the addition of Beats Audio? Their goal was to provide Beats benefits across the entire phone's Audio performance, Maybe it was just easier to apply the changes this way? Or maybe they took a shortcut? Maybe they couldn't apply beats to a farther extension of sound effects like specific notifications so they 'disabled' the ability?

[side note]Speaking of sound effects. I was pleased to see on the AT&T One X that in the camera settings there was an option for turning off the camera shutter sound. It gives me hope for the Evo 4G LTE and future HTC phones (hopefully it is not a Sprint decision).[/side note]

Unfortunately, Beats only kicks in when you use headphones.

That's a good guess. You might be right about the Beats Audio. And on your side note, I think the shutter sound being on is a Sprint thing. I don't think we will see the option to turn it off any future Sprint phones. But I hope I am wrong. Does anyone know if the Galaxy Nexus has the option to turn it off?

That is true. Not sure what I was thinking. Maybe I've been unknowingly suckered by their marketing buzz words. Sprint has been claiming that they are bringing the rich authentic Beats Audio experience across the entire phone.

Beats support for the entire phone seems to be a matter of a kernel mod and a framework within the rom, going by the 3vo root devs.

I think that this is a case of some chuckle head fixing something that wasn't broken.

And how often have we seen that in software? Exactly.
