Wow. Thanks again NKT and now, Stericson, for the great information. Am I correct in saying that as of now, there is no difference (internally) between the two phones except the Incredible having that extra memory?

Also, I was reading up on the forum this morning and found the bit from Stericson about the processor not being underclocked. Out loud I said "Holy Shit.." and when my girlfriend looked at me startled, I replied; "The Incredible's processor isn't underclocked!" She only started speaking to me an hour ago.

He also mentioned that the multitouch bug didn't affect the incredible, so it probably has a different touch screen sensor.

Stericson, do the other HTC devices do this processor idle "slowdown" as well or is this the first? If this is the first, do you think this will help make up for the smaller battery?
I doubt it's the only device that does this, the Droid also does it, while not a HTC device I'm pretty sure it's standard for smartphone devices to run at lower speeds while idle otherwise the battery life would be even worse on smartphones.

Yeah, this isn't just a smartphone feature....I'm pretty sure all processors (laptops, pcs, etc.) run at slower speeds when idle to save energy.

yea unless there is something we dont know yet..then i will be purchasing an after market one 2..i mean i woudnt think verizon and htc would put a smaller battery on a phone that is more juiced up then the nexus one and has a greater camera then the desire on the incredible..there has to be something we dont know about..well acourse there is alot we dont know about yet..but i guess we will find out in 10 days!!!!

My first post - Hi all. I just have a question, I did a search which rendered no results so I figure I'll ask. To those who have seen the Incredible in person can they confirm that it has a dedicated Lock Hard Key? (Like the N1, Desire, iPhone etc.. all have them on the top of the device) Not a big deal but I'm just curious. By the way, I've been following this thread for about a day and would just like to say thanks to all of you guys for y'alls help. Oh and to the people repping Tennessee, I'm from NC lol, not that far away.

Exactly! This is similar to all the confusion over the Incredible supposedly only having 256 mg RAM (which is apparently not true). We should have known, as some speculated, that they wouldn't make an "incredible" phone with such low specs. So with that said, maybe there is something we don't know in regards to the battery life. It really confuses me that they'd make such a great phone with wonderfully powerful specs but handicap it with a weaker battery then lesser potent phones are using. It can't be just to save on cost or weight, can it?

The discussion about the N1 is interesting because it's hard to imagine it will have a fighting chance against the Incredible. Many reasons have been given for this....

The inability to hold it in hand before buying
The lack of Sense UI
The lack of Verizon support/having to mail the phone in for repair.
The lack of advertising
The perception that Google doesn't care for one reason or another...like as if they have a different purpose beyond sales.

This is perhaps not a complete list but some of the main ones given. BUT....what if we're suffering from a paradigm paralysis? Simply put, what if we are only predicting based on the past and what we know now...and are not taking into account a shift that has yet come to pass?

For example, what if Google does decide to sell in a store (eg. Walmart)? Or what if they change the pricing or incentives for buying? Or?

Given what people have already said, and the fact that it looks like the N1 will not be able to compete very well with the Incredible, I would think Google would HAVE to do something. It just seems unlikely that they would bring a phone to market and let themselves be totally outmaneuvered. But I guess stranger things have happened. It will be interesting.

The other thing you should all be aware of is the future of computing, moving to the mobile platform. As I sad in an earlier post (about 40 pages ago, meaning 4 days ago, lol) you can actually do just about everything on a phone that you can on a PC or laptop, via virtualization and remote computing solutions. Also, you can do VOIP on phones without using actual phone services. If you add that up and the fact that Google is building a super high speed data network, which they claim is just for some testing purposes, you realize that Google is setting themselves up to completely replace cell communications with their own network, or so goes my theory.

There will be no such thing as a voice network, or voice service within a few years.

If you were given a chance to completely break the stranglehold of the traditional cell companies and all their evil contracts, wouldn't you give it a shot? Remember, Google's motto is: Don't be evil. Very simple and to the point. How many times have we all said that our phone companies are evil?

My hat goes off to Google if they pull it off.

Unlike the memory issue, the fcc filing pretty much confirms the battery specs.

I remember reading way back in this thread that the battery is one of the criteria that the FCC looks at before passing a phone, and if the size of it changes, the phone would have to go back through for FCC approval. So, I think that we are stuck with that battery ...

I understand that but aren't some of the aftermarket phone batteries "denser" than the OEM batteries? Or is the denseness measured by the mah spec? Can you have an aftermarket 1300 mah battery that retains a charge longer than the standard OEM battery? Or are all 1300 mah batteries the same? If the former is true, then maybe they have a better 1300 mah battery in the Incredible than the other standard 1400 mah batteries (maybe they are equal at retaining a charge). Just curious speculation on my part though. I would love for someone who knows about these types of batteries to respond.

that sucks...well hopefully this incredible comes with an incredible way to save on some battery...either way im still loving this phone

1300 mah (milli-amp hours) is a description of how much energy the battery holds, and all 1300 mah batteries should last the same amount of time, but it's sometimes possible to get a higher capacity battery that's the same size, and wouldn't need an aftermarket cover. So a 1400-1500 mah battery may be available.

Sure, I tend to field alot of questions so its no biggie.

I kinda wish I was with Verizon to get this phone... Lack of a hard KB is depressing though as well.

Well, for you I suppose the Moto Shadow would do the trick? I love the HDMI it is rumored to have.

Thank you for your info and welcome to this forum :)

I can't decide between the incredible, or the blackberry slider! Help!

Jokes.

Hahaha. That new blackberry thing has got to be one of the ugliest pieces of hardware I've seen in awhile. Especially after drooling over these Incredible pictures.

hey guys its my first post in this epic thread :D

anyway i really dont want to read through the whole thread, but i saw on the first post that the Incredible doesnt have the multitouch bug that the nexus one has. How is this the case? I thought it was a hardware limitation because HTC uses Synaptic 2000 technology or something along those lines. Are HTC moving to newer hardware possibly?

Yes, possibly new hardware or at least FIXED hardware. All we know is that one of the new tipsters told us that the screen DOES NOT have the same screen issues as the Nexus One. Take it as you will, but that's really all we have to go on right now.

Ok, did some more looking around at the docs that I have and I think I can confirm Stericsons 8gb onboard flash storage (ie Pre+):

Device Vendor Memory Lockdown [Pooled Memory Required] ROM:512MB Flash+8GB moviNAND
RAM: 512MB

Memory (RAM, FLASH) ROM:512MB Flash + 8GB moviNAND RAM:512MB
So slap a 32gb micoSD in that bad boy and you got some serious storage! And I wonder if the means that Google is going to use the 8gb onboard for app storage. That would be sweet :)

And as far as weight goes, it is lighter than the N1.

Nice! Yeah, I'm guessing that would be for app storage. Man...a lot of us kinda doubted that this phone would honestly live up to it's name, but the more details that leak out, the more I, and a lot of other people, am starting to believe that this phone could have some very nice improvements over the Nexus and very possibly the Desire. Thanks NKT. Keep up the good work!
