I never said they couldn't I just said they were stupid and arrogant. Stupid because the model failed with T-Mobile without competition from other smart devices and it's going to fail with VZW because of the Incredible. Sounds stupid to me.

If they just aren't changing the model because they think they have the power/influence to change how people buy mobile devices (touch, feel, see) then they are arrogant.

Unless they honor the NE2 then I won't even think of the N1 because a) I am not giving up a c-note towards a phone and b) I am DEFINITELY not giving up a c-note if I cannot at least touch and play with the device ahead of time.

True. It is important for me to:

1. Test in store, handle phone, mess around with it
2. Be able to take it to the store for service
3. I waited this long (not even close to some of you) so I am def. using the $50 I have toward the phone. Not letting that go to waste!

Plus the HTC sense sounds cool and it'll most likely be cheaper.

Yeah but you won't have that Blinking track Ball ....Call me crazy but I really want the N1 just because of that :eek::eek::eek:

/slap across the back of the head

jk jk:D

just d/l that police light/strobe app *hit and let your phone wild out every now and again

Edit: I will agree though, I kinda thought the blinking trackball was cool, haha

I know what you mean, its like an led indicator on steroids. I have a S1 right now and Ive grown partial to LED notifications.

Prohibiting the use of a ne2 upgrade on the N1 is going to kill me. I just cant put up that kind of money for a phone. Makes me lean towards the Incredible too. However, Im still holding out that you will be able to use it. Why on earth would a VZW customer want to buy the N1 (more expensive, no in-store purchase, no pretty sense ui, and no NE2 use) over the Incredible? Hell, even Incredible advertising will be stronger than N1 advertising - most consumers might not even know about the N1.

I also forgot to mention the plan sucked for T-Mobile as well. I am on a family plan. If I cannot keep that then screw the N1 also.

My other thought is that maybe they knew about the hardware and connectivity issues in the first place and instead of pushing back the launch, they chose to use the dumbest, most useless and negative way of selling the phone (online only, terrible support issues, only one plan available etc) in order to keep as few on the street as possible :D

here's a doozy of an idea.... what if the Incredible is actually Verizon's N1? Hmmmmm?

Somehow i feel like if that isnt the case that the N1 will have slight changes....(optical trackpad) maybe black instead of gunmetal? Just some thoughts....

Two different FCC filings point to No.

If I had to vote on your thought? I would vote no. HowEVER, having said that? The phones are more or less identical. More or less, that is.

Unless the god-like specs pan out, I will still be getting the N1. I really don't want to sign a contract with VZW (especially since I still have my Alltel plan which is much cheaper than anything VZW has now, and I hate listening to sales reps talk to me like I'm an idiot). Plus the added benefit of not having to wait for HTC to realease plugged code (as in root exploits plugged) is the biggest driving factor for me. I have an Eris now with 2.1 (the leaked, not official) and the only thing "Sense" I use is the 2x2 weather widget, so stock android will be great since I won't have HTC's bloat added. Honestly the choice is up to the individual and everyone will have different reasons for his/her choice, but just wanted to add my thoughts.

Getting updates directly from Google is huge. It seems like we've been waiting forever for the 2nd update for the Moto Droid, makes me believe that at some point we will no longer receive them. Same goes for the Eris. I dont think the 2nd reported update ever came out?

With that being said I'm still not sure I would prefer to buy directly from Google. I am in no hurry and will wait to make a decision once both phones are out and can be compared.

The blinking trackball is from the Sidekick

It's the same color too, green when you have no texts and stuff.

If the N1 gets HTC Sense, that would be sickk. It's also a possible thing since the phone is actually manufactured by HTC themselves so it's in the realm of possiblity.

The N1 with sense will almost be like a desire pretty much except the desire will still be better.

when google first announced the N1, they said the main reason they were selling the phone was because they were tired of every phone manufacturer fragmenting their operating system and that they wanted to show android for what it truly was in it's purest form. If they were to release a N1 with sense it would go against the whole reason they are even selling the N1.

Agree, and the Nexus 2 is supposedly gonna be Moto manufactured, so they aren't gonna start going with any particular OS other than stock android.

The discussion about the N1 is interesting because it's hard to imagine it will have a fighting chance against the Incredible. Many reasons have been given for this....

The inability to hold it in hand before buying
The lack of Sense UI
The lack of Verizon support/having to mail the phone in for repair.
The lack of advertising
The perception that Google doesn't care for one reason or another...like as if they have a different purpose beyond sales.

This is perhaps not a complete list but some of the main ones given. BUT....what if we're suffering from a paradigm paralysis? Simply put, what if we are only predicting based on the past and what we know now...and are not taking into account a shift that has yet come to pass?

For example, what if Google does decide to sell in a store (eg. Walmart)? Or what if they change the pricing or incentives for buying? Or?

Given what people have already said, and the fact that it looks like the N1 will not be able to compete very well with the Incredible, I would think Google would HAVE to do something. It just seems unlikely that they would bring a phone to market and let themselves be totally outmaneuvered. But I guess stranger things have happened. It will be interesting.

I think Google's main problem is that they are used to giving stuff away for free so when it comes to actually driving revenue through sales and a product they have no idea what they are doing. As successful as they are I truly believe that.

I think the whole lack of Sense UI could go either way. Theres a part of me that likes the clean look for just the plain 2.1 stock and another party that likes the Sense integration. I could really go either way on that one.
